Have you ever watched a commercial on TV or online and thought, "Gee whiz! How did that company's marketing team let THAT ONE make it on the air???" Well, here's a thread where you can vent about that! List the most annoying commercials that you can think of. I'll start-

1. The Sonic "Two Guys" commercials. Everyone I talk to adores these commercials, but I don't see the appeal. These guys aren't funny at all, not to mention that food from Sonic sucks. Here's an example of one commercial if you've never seen these before.

2. Wayfair James Bond commercial. I just saw this one today on Food Network and I couldn't help thinking how stupid it was. If the commercial was totally silly and made fun of itself, then it might be okay, but the problem is that it's 100% serious.

3. Sabra Hummus Song commercials. Boy oh boy, do I hate these ads! The song is mega annoying and totally stupid. And apparently, Sabra thinks that they've hit a commercial gold mine because there's more than one variation of the song!

I feel like that's a pretty good starting list. I'm sure I'll think of more later. What commercials have annoyed you?

You kids are SO lucky that you actually think those are bad commercials. They are masterpieces compared to what I had to suffer growing up in the 1980's and early 90's.

The biggies from when I was a kid:

--Milk: It does a body good. Nobody I knew liked these commercials and they aired constantly. What's amazing is that it isn't even selling a specific brand of milk. We're annoyed for nobody's actual benefit.

--Bubble Tape / Apple Jacks / Cinnamon Toast Crunch: These specific commercials back in the early 90's horrified me. They were basically kids being insolent jerks and making fun of adults for being lame and uncool. People complain about the current generation, but the greatest thing about kids today is that they don't put up with bullying. Gen Xers of my generation tended to be jerks and these commercials fed into that. It amazes me parents didn't complain.

--Sunny Delight: Sunny D! All right! This one is notorious because every single kid I knew understood exactly how terrible and badly written these commercials were. It comes across as a parody of what kids think is cool, and it amazes me that it went out without realizing the kids in the commercial were the most annoying and obnoxious things ever to kids my age. And in case you don't think that's bad enough, this was basically an ongoing campaign with multiple commercials stretching out for years. Supposedly advertising has always done market research on what their target audience likes. But I don't believe that. Because everyone hated those commercials, and they were ongoing for years, and never evolved or stopped.

--Honey Bunches Of Oats: A kid bopping along to some unspecified rock song on headphones while singing, I kid you not, "Yeah, yeah, yeah." This commercial so offended my youthful music sensibilities I decided then and there to stop eating that cereal. Giving Post any of my mom's business after that would boil down to rewarding bad behavior. It's not like it's a great cereal anyways. I made due without it quite well.

--Three Words: Duracell Battery Family. These commercials were famous for being universally despised and were actual punchlines in some popular culture jokes for being the creepiest thing ever. And yet the campaign ran for years. Which again tells me that despite claims to the contrary, nobody ran market research back then at ALL.

For the record, I am also amused that Mentos got SO much crap back in the day. Compared to the stuff I just mentioned they seem halfway decent. Which is crazy considering how much they actually suck.

Cricket Wireless "HIYEEE" Commercial
Okay, when was the last time your wireless company made you so annoyed? Or... cursed? By these characters Chip, Dusty, Miles, Ramon, and Rose kept saying HIYEEE on their smartphones during the makeup. My ears felt like a dumb child's play.

I mean, what about the imaginative and charming ones such as The No-Duh-Uh-Huh Obvious Call, Four for the Holidays, etc., and why did the campaign got refreshed in 2018 to remove all of the colorful, adorable, and nimble creatures? In my opinion, this was the bizzare and obnoxious ad I've ever seen, and I'm practically done watching these Cricket ads.

Living in Michigan, I have to put up with these commercials all the time:

At least the Mentos ads led to some amusing parodies:

As for my most hated, this is kind of obscure, but if you have Google Play Music, some of the ads they play, particularly the ones for youtubemusic artists ("A MILLION DOLLARS A DAY!")

Tell me about it. I hate how YouTube has not only decided to play really annoying songs in their YouTubeMusic artist ads, but count 3-4 minute music videos as ads. Like, if for someone reason I'm far from my phone and I'm unable to skip the ad, I'm forced to listen to a song that I never wanted to hear in the first place. Thanks, YouTube!

This one has been a really bad ear worm for me for years, and now, I inflict it upon all of you:

"CHARLIE MURPHY's COOKING JOHNSONVILLE BRATS!"

"JOHNSONVILLE BRATS!"

This sort of "kids vs. adults"/"us vs. them" mentality seemed to be the basis for a lot of marketing targeted toward kids at that time. It may have been popularized by Nickelodeon; I've read up on the channel's history and apparently this was one of the main principles the network was founded on. As someone who grew up in that era and watched Nickelodeon religiously, I'll readily admit that it got kind of excessive at times. This is part of the reason why stuff like The Amanda Show no longer appeals to me - half the skits amounted to little more than kids being rude, obnoxious brats with no respect for authority. The fact that there were kids in my middle school who would frequently yell out catchphrases from that show probably didn't help.

As for the topic, I'd like to nominate these commercials for a local roofing company as being simultaneously annoying and creepy as hell. That bug-eyed, CG-animated dancing nail at the end is the stuff of nightmares. Please get a new mascot, guys!

It was an extremely toxic and disturbing mindset to put on kids at such a young impressionable age. Nickelodeon was a crap channel back then.

And of course, no thread about annoying commercials would be complete without this gem:

Re: Kids vs Adults. To be fair, there were a lot of adults at the time (and sadly still are in some cases) going after stuff kids liked (ie, the PMRC), but I digress. Anyway, I'd take any Apple Jacks Gang commercial over the Trix commercials. It's 2019 and they STILL wont let the Rabbit have Trix (on a side note, if the Rabbit's not supposed to have it, then why is he all over the boxes for it?)

Since someone mentioned web ads on Google Music, YouTube in Portugal also has annoying ads. We often get eToro ads (Steve and Dave use eToro) and local ones like the Glovo delivery app. But the way the ads are structured makes them feel really annoying.

In the past we used to get Spanish versions of eToro ads, for some mad reason. There are also condensed, 5-second versions of television ads we have here and they're often annoying.

There was an ad for birth control pills that popped up on You Tube one time. It had a gal sitting on a couch staring straight into the camera saying in the flattest voice ever: “Hi, I’m Michelle and I like to [bleep] my boyfriend”. I could not skip over it fast enough. Honestly, I found it a little offensive. What marketing executive thought this was an appealing ad?

My head is filled with HOURS of annoying jingles, too many to count

We still get those milk ads here. I can't find the modern ones, but this one is from 2012:

(I totally forgot "jumping" was a thing)

I have heard that American television allows ads on TV for prescription drugs o_O That must be super annoying.

This is a kind of ad you will probably never see in the USA. You wouldn't even believe me if I told you what these ads are for.

I have yet to see that specific one, but I get somewhat "adult" ads on YouTube all the time. The current one is for Dr. Squatch I believe, and the guy goes something like, "Here's the thing. The soap you're using, it's [bleep]." At least they censored it; I saw a 15-second movie ad slot with an uncensored s-bomb a few months ago. Shouldn't that be reserved for the red band trailer? Oh wait, it didn't have one because it was a PG-13 movie! The internet, being the way it is, has a lot more leeway with their advertising and can include swearing that you would never dream of seeing in commercials shown on daytime cable.

And I totally agree with you about that ad being kind of offensive. Not really what I want to see before I listen to my meditations at night lol!

I used to see this ad on Nickelodeon all the time. The commercial itself isn't particularly annoying, but the product was a total scam. I got one of these at FAO Schwartz and it was nowhere near as easy and smooth as they make it look. Going by the comments, apparently everyone else who got one had the exact same experience I did.
