An all-new Teen Titans Go! episode debut tonight at 7:30pm (ET/PT) on Cartoon Network. Discuss it here!

Teen Titans Go!
"Gorilla"airs Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 on Cartoon Network

Beast Boy turns into a loud, obnoxious gorilla and refuses to change back, driving Robin crazy as he takes over the leadership of the Titans, leading to chaos.

Comments?

Please note this 11-minute episode will be paired with a rerun of a previously-aired 11-minute episode.

One word: wacky.

The artists seemed to be taking cues from Ren & Stimpy on this one.

I wonder what Batman wanted. He rang them twice, but the communication console...met with an accident.

Probably my favorite of the series so far. It made me laugh.

Once.

Yeah, I know rule of funny and all: but I would have thought Robin would have realized while BB was sitting on him to say 'Starfire! You're in charge; rip his green head off.'

I think the idea of beast boy being disobedient is where things go wrong for me in this episode. Beast boy (in my mind anyway) is a jokester and a kidder, and is probably the most likely of all the titans to slack off, sure. However, the idea of him being straight up rebellious against his leader’s commands just feels off.

I mean, this is the same guy who was with the Doom Patrol, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure Mento wouldn’t let him get away with that kind of attitude. This is also the same guy who took leadership of the remaining titans when the Brotherhood of Evil had the rest captured and managed to save them all. So he should know when to buckle down and be disciplined, right?

Maybe that’s where my thinking is wrong. Maybe this isn’t the same beast boy I grew to love from the original show. If that’s true then it’s going to be very difficult to get interested in watching Teen Titans Go again.

Or maybe i just find insubordination extremely awkward to watch. I don’t know.

The best way to look at this show is not to look at it as the continuation of the previous show, but as kinda a wacky, Looney Tunes-esque cartoon inspired by the previous show. In these kinds of shows continuity and even characterization isn't going to be consistent from episode to episode, nor is it really expected to be. The characters do what they do not to really tell a story but just to get a laugh.

This episode was kinda dumb. Robin is still funny, but Beast Boy was beyond annoying, and when Raven and Starfire started acting like monkeys, I groaned.

I really want to like this show but I honestly feel as though I'm setting the standards for TV extremely, extremely low by doing that.

You know I was mostly on board with this one actually. Robin being a total jerk and forcing the others to exercise to prove he's team leader? Funny. Beast Boy turning into a gorilla just to get out of exercising and Robin being unable to stop him? Also funny. Beast Boy's gorilla transformation screwing over Robin even in battles (considering how he was the most personality free member of the Hive Trio, I'm fine with Mammoth getting a far more limited cameo then Gizmo or Jinx wound up with) much to the hero's chargin? Pretty dang funny. Beast Boy challenging Robin to leadership and winning and Robin having to follow his orders? Not only funny but actually pretty satisfying. As Robin admittingly was my least favorite of the show for his over leaderly tendanices so glad to see him get put in his place here. Plus I also thought it was hilarious how the others got really into his commands even if it included protecting a jungle gym and actually bullying little kids off of it with their powers. And I also thought there were a lot of good bits with Robin having to learn how to be a leader again, whether it was Cyborg's reasoning for helping him, or Robin realizing he is leader and screwing over Cyborg or even how he won over Beast Boy at the end. And Raven had a good line about how she doesn't see the difference between Gorilla BB in command and Robin.

Where this episode lost me was having Raven and Starfire gorilla out when Batman called them. is it because it was incredibly OOC? No, I'm not really bothered with the OOC in this one as if it fits the purpose of the plot or comedy I'm fine with the Titans acting different, even from episode to episode. Is it because of the randomness? Well no because randomness can work if done well. I think it's because to me that wasn't funny. Really I saw no reason why they had to go in that direction. You know what would of been better? If BB just kept acting like a lazy slob who refused to help out now and just sat around swinging on a tire swing or something while Raven and Starfire somehow appearence became apelike (due to the rule of the jungle) and they retained their normal personalities for the most part just with some slight monkey addditions. Going all screaming howler monkey and jumping around like that just looked weird and worse wasn't funny. Even if it wasn't spoiled by the trailers it wouldn't be funny as that joke doesn't work nor does it repeating at the end really work either. I see no reason for it and it doesn't even fit in with the tone of the rest of the episode where before everyone was either annoyed with who was in charge or just listened to them but still were themselves. Becoming primal like that was just off and honestly, the low point of this otherwise pretty great episode. Since the rest actually did work for me besides this so I just have to wonder whose idea this was and how I could ask them to never do something like this again.

He's also the same guy who went all crazy in that Adonis episode. I thought this episode was okay, but I mostly liked Cyborg training Robin to be tougher.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
