This week...
Steven and the Gems engage in an old fashioned game of baseball.

Also known as "Rubies dont dance" and "Oh thats a baseball"

Apparently Rubies were never designed with a significant degree of intelligence.

Heh anyone else kind of wish the last line was "Man Rubies are dumb" "not all of them" also had Amethyst end with "yeah all of them" or something like that as a final joke? I don't know, something like that. Also while I'm nitpicking, I'm pretty sure the crystal gems could of handled a giant Ruby though I guess Peridot was in her overly panicked mode. And technically I know they kind of keep the same skin color but the gems could of shape shifted more (well Pearl and Amethyst at least) to look more human but guess there wasn't a need and... I don't know why I'm bothering to nit pick this one. After some heavier action and dramatic episode and then episodes more focused on character development and interaction as heck even the last episode was more focused on getting Peridot and Laips to get along, this is just a general goof ball episode. I'm guessing Yellow Diamond still isn't directly invested in the earth mission thus why she's fine sending a bunch of stupid Rubies to scope things out. Which leads to of all things a base ball game which... okay I'm always a sucker for when a show that mixes in goofiness or silliness with serious storylines actually manages to try and pull this kind of plot off. Of the heroes and villains actually taking a truce to play something like baseball. One of the better Sonic X episodes did something like that but honestly it's a hard thing to have your villains strong enough for the joke of them doing this to work, but not just feel totally weightless as well. I think it works showing how stupid these Rubies are despite some of their unique personalities. I guess I could also question didn't it say in "The Answer" that Rubies looked more the same but again I think we're suppose to take that more from Steven's perspective in that episode not knowing what other Gems are like and what not while here it's more what they actually are.

Though again what makes this absolutely work is the comedy and there are a lot of great bits here: "I called Yellow Diamond a clod" "you call everyone a clod", Peridot saying clod was "her word" when Garnet called her one, the Rubies being unable to count properly and honestly the overly happy, angry and even more vacant one then normal's expressions were all great throughout, Steven managing to recruit everyone else even Laips to play baseball and... I have to say Deadpaned annoyed "ugh why am I even here? Eh whatever I'll try I guess" I found honestly hilarious from her calling herself bob to letting a pop fly go to moving slightly to catch one. And my personal favorite holding out the bat to hit the ball and just slowly walking off while all the Rubys dive bombed to get it. And in general the game was also really great: Ruby and Sapphire flirting with one another, Amethyst showing off, "everything's going great" "you're lying!" "I know I'm just trying to make you feel better" "Oh well thank you", Steven trying to stop Ruby and Sapphire from flirting and Garnet realizing her folly. And the reveal the Rubys were looking for Jasper and Steven lying and saying they're on Neptune when the others didn't know was great. So yeah just all around really goofy but enjoyable episode. Taking a very just out there concept but making it work enough to laugh and enjoy throughout. Especially calling out the so called villain's idioitcy at the end. I do kind of want to see those Rubys again down the line which hey sure we will but until then... good episode... again.

Man were those Rubys dumb.
But wait? They were after Jasper? Not Peridot? I'm guessing this will force Jasper to switch sides. The fact that this episode ends with a mystery is simply cruel.

Um....uh.....wow...Rubies ARE dumb.

Firing on all cylinders in this one, great stuff. The twist at the end was pretty interesting, too, but if anyone could recount the dialogue between Peridot and Mega Ruby at the end again, that'd be nice. Need to clarify something.

My really quick thoughts:
  • Rubies (other than our main one) are dumber than a box of rocks. Pun totally intended.
  • Ruby and Sapphire are just so...mushy. We get that you are madly in love with each other, but can we stop while playing the game?
  • Sapphire's cyclops eye scares me.
  • Is "sucks" a normal thing they say on CN now? I remember back in the day they never would have said it on shows like KND or Foster's. I know they said it on Regular Show, but I thought it got edited out.
  • If Sapphire were to fuse with all those Rubies, would they form a giant, angry Garnet?
  • That one Ruby was wearing only suspenders and no top. Am I the only one who thought that looked a bit...suggestive. I know it doesn't matter because she boobless, but still.

I think this is only the second time they said that on SU, and coming from Lapis....well it makes sense, but I wasn't expecting it. Not that I mind, I liked that a lot.
As for RS, they said "pissed" a few times in the first season, as well as "How in the H are we gonna fix this S," and that was eventually edited out because CN is CN. Other than that, everything was kept intact.

Dam Rubies are dumb, even our Ruby, the cover was almost blown because our Ruby just cracking under pressure. Not to mention Ruby and Sapphire couldn't control their flirting.

This episode was hilarious from Peridot's panic attack, Garnet saying clod, the baseball lineups, the idiot Rubies, Amethyst being usual hilarious self, to Lapis being more emo than in the last episode if possible. I love how Lapis is barely trying and still does well.

I love the humans names, Amy, Earl, Sophie, and Bob. And Lapis said the plan sucked, but sounded like from her tone, she thought it sounded fun, but she couldn't say it.

But man the Rubies are dumb, though what we saw in "The Answer" they are not very smart. I guess Quartz get all the intelligence as well.

It is nice Peridot was willing to give herself up for everyone, if that doesn't get any points with Lapis, than nothing well. And not as reckless and stupid as Lapis Malachite plan.

The twist is, they are looking for Jasper the leader of the failed mission. Well I heard spoilers about that, but haven't seen the episode, so I wasn't sure if it was a rescue mission or capture mission, but it is obvious it is not a rescue mission, from the Rubies tone of voice to the world failure used. Yellow Diamond is not happy, and yes in a fight, Jasper could take the Rubies, but the Rubies they have Yellow Diamond authority , so messing with the Rubies would be like disrespecting Yellow Diamonds, I don't think Jasper would do that.

Though I wonder if they didn't lose Jasper at the end of "Super Watermelon Island" and was able to poof and bubble her, would they have giving Jasper to the Rubies?

Alll and all a great episode, it was funny and informative, and now In Too Deep ends, hopefully we won't have to wait long for the next one. So 10 /10.

Season 3 episode 5 was pretty awesome/funny,

The highlights:

The 5 Rubies, awesome cute enjoyable Crystal Gem soldiers with different personalities, the happy, clueless, anxiety, and aggressive Rubies the funniest:D, they are so dumb, hehehe, voiced by Charlyne Yi(Chloe), awesome, a nice touch that it's not 5 Jaspers.

Peridot's panic attack, so funny, hehehe, and Pearl's comeback to Peridot, hahahahahaha.

Steven's baseball team called the Humans, the human names on the Crystal Gems was great/funny, Pearl called Earl, and Lapis called Bob(a Steven line callback to Ocean Gem), so funny, hahahahahahaha, Lapis is cute in baseball wear.

Lapis and her emo deadpan annoyed "why am I even here" expression was so hilarious, hahahahahahaha:p.

Steven/The Crystal Gems vs. the 5 Rubies in baseball was sweet/enjoyable, a nice fun challenge towards the 5 Rubies.

Amethyst showing off was so funny.

The 5 Rubies fusing into a giant Ruby was awesome.

Peridot willing to give herself up for everyone was great.

The 5 Rubies are looking for Jasper, interesting.

Steven lying to the 5 Rubies that Jasper is in Neptune, nice, I'll enjoy Jasper's return.

I hope the 5 Rubies be anti-heroines to join Steven/The Crystal Gems further episodes.

Amethyst saying that Rubies are so dumb at the end, so funny, hahahahahahaha:p, they are Amethyst, hehehe.

What did we learn today, kiddos? (language warning)

This had to be one of the most fun episodes this show has ever put out. There were way too many great moments to count.

Pretty great episode. The new Rubies were dumb but that only made the episode funnier. The baseball game was neat, seeing the characters play lead to some pretty creative use of their abilities. The scenes between Ruby and Sapphire were nice. The reveal that the Rubies were looking for Jasper was cool, and I'm guessing more about that will be explained later on.

Anyone notice Lapis thumbs up when Ruby and Sapphire were flirting, was that a callback to "7 15 2", even though Lapis was not in it, how did she pick that up?

That's Enough!! At the end of this episode of Steven Universe: In Too Deep as the Conclusion of 5-part of the episode of the season premiere as the Fourth Story arc, the 5 rubies are gonna get angry on the Crystal Gems, after the end of baseball game!

But then, Periodot is the one who failed the mission is to get the cluster and destroy all planets, she's being yelling on the leader of the Homeworld gems, Yellow Diamond and she called her a CLOD! So, Periodot gets Fired and she's being lose a job! And now, Periodot will join the group as become the new member of the Crystal Gems, just like Lapis!

After the battle of Super Watermelon Island must come to an end AND the cluster has been stopped for the earth core as he use the giant bubble will be save the cluster, the 5 rubies must find Jasper for the planet of Neptune! Unfortunately, it is revealed that Jasper is falling into the earthquake for Super Watermelon Island, Not the planet of Neptune! So, the Crystal Gems are lying to the 5 rubies!

Ever since, the scene between Ruby and Sapphire must be flirted and fused together into Garnet will be backstory for the very beginning of each story arc as the Origins of Garnet, like a reference of the episode of the third Story arc of Steven Universe, "The Answer"!

And for the record, as soon as Yellow Diamond will return is near the future episodes of Steven Universe!

Like Steven said, "it's all part of their plan"!!!

That is a good point. I rewatched every episode Lapis has been in, and didn't see anyone giving her the "thumbs up". However, Steven did spend a lot of time with her when she was trapped in the mirror, and it's possible that Lapis spent more time around Peridot than what was seen in Barn Mates, so perhaps she got a thumbs up offscreen.

Although, a better question is, how does Lapis know what a fart is?

Honestly, of all the episodes of the In Too Deep event, I think I enjoyed this one the most. Maybe that's because I really needed to see a light-hearted, comedic ep like this to get out of the story-and-drama burnout I briefly went through, but there really is a ton to like about this one. The setups and gags were extremely creative, the Rubies were a lot of fun to watch, and there were simply too many great character moments to count. It's ridiculous and over the top, but in a good kind of way, and after all the drama-laden episodes I think it's very much warranted. Definitely one of the show's funniest episodes all around.

I remember think once about how a ton of animes have the random baseball episode. No surprise that Steven Universe would eventually do one. It's probably listed on TV tropes somewhere, but baseball episodes are a great way to showcase how characters interact and work as a team. Even Star Trek had a baseball episode once.
