"Sonic Generations" Pre-Release Discussion (360/PS3/3DS and now maybe WiiU)

Is that Nack the Weasel in one the Wanted posters ? Awesome. I can't tell who others are though.
Those fine convicts would be Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear from Sonic the Fighters. They're also known for their wacky escapades in the Archie comics. :)

Thanks the screennshot was to blurry so I couldn't tell.

Looks like there new item boxes in the game like skateboard above.

There are clean screens 3DS version out there now. It looks a lot better than the scans did, can't wait to see the final product.

EDIT: Proof of Rooftop Run in the HD version-

So if we're getting Nack, Bean and Bark cameos... maybe there's hope for Mighty as well?

As for trailer reaction: 2D City Escape, flippin' awesome! But the original song was sorely missing from the video.

I am impressed.

Two good Sonic titles in a row almost makes me wonder if we're in some kind of 90's time warp. This is by far the most excited I've been about this franchise in years. I can't wait to see how this turns out; looks excellent so far.

Report from behind closed doors presentation of the level:

Nuckles87 and I have just finished a behind closed doors looks at the City Escape level from Sonic Generations. Playing the game for everyone was producer Takashi Iizuka. There were a few surprises in store.

He first played through as classic Sonic who avoids the street almost entirely. Running and jumping around constructions areas and over rooftops. There's a more classic version of “Escape from the City” playing with lyrics. (NOTE: Both versions have a brand new remix. Modern version has extra new lyrics.) Throughout the classic level, the GUN truck was chasing little classic Sonic both in and around backgrounds, giving the 2-D levels more of a 3-D look. Classic Sonic did ride on a board similar to the ice level from Sonic 3. Unfortunately, he quit the level before getting to the end.

The truck was very persistent, as he then was following Modern Sonic. His level plays very similar to the Dreamcast version as he rides the blade and follows almost the exact same path. The big difference is Unleashed-style gameplay coming into effect. Guess who makes a return to tell you what to do? That's right. Just like in the original version, Omachao is back. The badniks in both levels are the same mechs from the original SA2 and you homing attack though them in the same way. Along the way, you can see missing posters. I noticed one had a picture of Ray and Mighty, while the other had Bean and Bark. At the end, the GUN truck is chasing you down, similarly to SA2, only this bad boy has friggin’ sawblades sticking out all over! Iizuka died when he ran too slow on the side of a wall and the truck hit him.
Sounds cool. Hope we can see it soon!

Haha! That was pretty great.

Classic Sonic jumping on a skateboard is 90's as all hell and I love it.

This game keeps getting better and better. I may as well buy it instead of renting it.

According to the guy who saw City Escape in action, he had this to say:

I did a Q&A with Iizuka and I can confirm that there will be extra acts per zone.
So it looks like 1 act per style per zone is not gonna happen. :)

Those worried about Classic Sonic physics ala Sonic 4 episode 1:

Unlike Sonic 4, Sonic Generations’ Sonic does not stop dead in his tracks or in mid air when the player stops pushing forward on the controller. Sonic cannot stroll up inclines, nor can he stand on walls or in loops. Gravity will push you down hard if you don’t gather enough momentum.

These are the games shown on the walls of Generations' E3 booth, which might confirm the games the levels will come from for this:

-Sonic 1 (1991)
-Sonic 2 (1992)
-Sonic CD (1993)
-Sonic 3 (1994)
-Sonic & Knuckles (1994)
-Sonic Adventure (1999)
-Sonic Adventure 2 (2001)
-Sonic Heroes (2003)
-Sonic Rush (2005)
-Sonic 2006 (2006)
-Sonic and the Secret Rings (2007)
-Sonic Unleashed (2008)
-Sonic Colors (2010)
It leaves out several games (no portables beyond Rush, no Shadow/Chaotix, no Black Knight) and spin offs, but specifically shows these games. They aren't cherry picking for the booth either, or else '06 wouldn't have reared its head.

So we might be getting at least 13 zones here.

I wouldn't mind seeing some Secret Rings representation in Generations.

Playing its levels with Sonic Unleashed style gameplay may make them actually enjoyable. Night Palace plz.

A.K.A Fang the Sniper, FTW!

Gamespot's live stream just showed both versions of City Escape and they played through a full act of each.

It completely demolishes the original.

Like, wow.

EDIT: Modern Gameplay! and Classic Gameplay!

Yeah, you're not kidding.

Wow, seriously.

Apparently Takashi Iizuka just announced a demo will be coming to XBLA and PSN "soon" at the Sonic Boom event.

I'm going to guess it will be up on Sonic's 20th birthday, June 23rd.

Holy crap. I thought the truck meant business before, plowing through city streets and sending cars flying left and right.

Now it's friggin' demolishing buildings, flying through the air, and driving SIDEWAYS.

Best Sonic game ever? If it keeps up the way it's looking, I'd say there's a darn good chance.

I was content with Green Hill Zone, but the re-imagined City Escape? HOLY GEEZ! I sure hope the rest of the game's levels are as awesome as City Escape. Especially for Modern Sonic. That was the most enormous, wide (and possibly more creative) level that modern games have ever gotten. And, I like that it discourages boosting most of the time. The killer truck was hardcore. Jesus... I'm also liking the skateboard powerup Classic Sonic gets. More of that, please, SEGA.

Also...
From Sega's twitter:
Iizuka-San is here and on stage! Confirms the Sonic Generations demo to XBLA and PSN!
