Sofia The First: Royal Magic (Sofia The First Sequel Series In Development)

This was mentioned in the Disney Junior thread, but I figured this deserved its own thread. As part of Craig Gerber's extended deal with Disney Branded Television, he's creating another Sofia The First spinoff. This one is set at Royal Prep, and is the only thing known about the show at the moment.

Well I wonder if there is a time skip, and Sofia and company are teenagers, and the protagonists are younger.

I do wish they do a Sofia / Elena spinoff that focuses on former villains like Prisma and Carla forming some sort of redemption squad.

Since it mentions Royal Prep as a major setting, I assume the protagonist of this series will be about Sofia's age when the original show started. Maybe Cedric's niece Callista can be the protagonist of this show. She was introduced as a character younger than Sofia when the original show started, meaning she could be old enough to attend Royal Prep in this show. Granted, she isn't a princess, but at least someone in that age range could be the protagonist here.

One thing I hope for this series is to do the same thing that Elena Of Avalor and Firebuds did, mainly in having some people who worked on Sofia and Elena while still having new people come in. It helps bring about a sense of similarly strong writing while still doing new things. Case in point, Elena brought in some Sofia staff members like storyboard artist Francis Glebas and writer Rachel Ruderman while having new people like Silvia Olivas, Elliot M. Bour, and Tom Rogers be major players. Firebuds brought in Sofia writer Matt Hoverman as story editor and Elena storyboard artists Rob Pratt, Julius Aguimatang, and Kris Wimberly onboard as directors while still having fresh faces like Krystal Banzon and Leanna Dindal as writers.

So we finally have news about the new Sofia The First show. It's called Sofia The First: Royal Magic. The show follows Sofia, much like the old show, and still voiced by Ariel Winter. Here, she's attending The Charmswell School For Royal Magic, a school where princesses and princes further their magical and royal education. In addition to Craig Gerber returning, we have Krystal Banzon (co-story editor on Firebuds) and Kris Wimberly (storyboard artist on Elena Of Avalor and episodic director on Firebuds) as supervising director. Unlike the old show, this series will be composed of 2 11 minute segments. The show comes in 2026.

I wonder if Gillian is going to be in this, if so will they still have her original voice actress. She has moved on from Disney . Though in my opinion of all the Disney stuff that Sabrina has done, Sofia is by far the best in my opinion, no shade towards Milo Murphy's Law just saying. Probably why we would have trouble getting a Elena of Avalor sequel, consider Isabela's voice actress being in a similar situation, Isabela is more important character to EOA than Gillian would be to STF.

I hope we get a follow up on Prisma and her redemption.

Can anyone refresh my memories how many characters found out the Amulet and its powers in the finale?

I think you meant to say Vivian, not Gillian. Though it wouldn't surprise me if Sabrina Carpenter being too busy would mean a possible recast.

On another note, Craig Gerber says how the idea for the show originally started as a Royal Prep spinoff before later deciding to do a sequel series.

Craig Gerber put out a post on BlueSky yesterday about how he was at a recording session with a certain wizard and fairy from the original show. It'll be interesting to see how they fit into the show.

Craig Gerber confirmed that the series will be animated by Icon Creative Studios. This is not a surprise given how they also animated Elena Of Avalor and Firebuds. With this series, this will be the 9th Disney Junior show that they worked on since they also worked on Goldie And Bear, TOTS, The Rocketeer, Alice's Wonderland Bakery, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, and Ariel.

While articles mentioned the revival being made more for younger kids, Craig Gerber mentions more of the higher ups being responsible for this. I'm guessing he's telling older fans to view this show through a different lens when it comes to expectations.

Only now I'm aware of this. Vampirina recently got a sort of sequel but as a live-action series for older kids. I think they are raising the age range for this but unlike Vampirina it's still clearly aiming at the core demographic of the original.

The live action Vampirina show is an alternate continuity, not a sequel to the animated series. This new Sofia show, while made for a new audience, is still a follow up
