Sesame Street Thread

Perhaps someone who's seen Sesame Street in the last few years can answer this:, is Herry Monster still on the show? I haven't heard anything about that character in years. I assume that he's been retired, and if so, that's too bad. I always liked Herry more than Telly.

I watched Sesame Street sometime when I was young kid in early 1990s, but not much as I did watch on Nickelodeon, The Disney Channel, USA's Cartoon Express, Fox Kids and Disney Afternoon.

Sesame Street and other PBS shows (Mister Rogers' Neighborhood) are closed captioned since 1980s from WGBH, long time before shows on Nickelodeon didn't start until early 1990s. That was big plus.

I noticed some parents hated Street Sesame and as for me, I have a lot of respect for creators made Street Sesame - they are awesome show.

It's Herry Monster and while he can still sometimes be seen in clips (The John-John one is a big fave) I don't believe he's made a recent new appearance.

Yeah, I thought that it might've been Herry. I can fix that. Like I said before, it's been a while.

Still kind of upset that HBO MAX went back on their promise to have every episode of Sesame Street ever on there (though there are certain segments that couldnt be aired anyway, either due to IP/Copyright reasons or questionable celebrity involvement)

This randomly popped into my head but was it ever confirmed or debunked that Bert and Ernie were named after the characters from Its a Wonderful Life?

Debunked. According to Jerry Juhl, Jon Stone, the first producer and head writer for Sesame Street, and Jim Henson decided one looked like an Ernie and the other looked like a Bert.
One Jerry Juhl writes: "I was the head writer for the Muppets for 36 years and one of the original writers on 'Sesame Street.' The rumor about 'It's a Wonderful Life' has persisted over the years.
"I was not present at the naming, but I was always positive it was incorrect. Despite his many talents, Jim had no memory for details like this. He knew the movie, of course, but would not have remembered the cop and the cabdriver. I was not able to confirm this with Jim before he died, but shortly thereafter I spoke to Jon Stone, Sesame Street's first producer and head writer and a man largely responsible for the show's format. (Jon, sadly, is no longer with us either.)
"He assured me that Ernie and Bert were named one day when he and Jim were studying the prototype puppets. They decided that one of them looked like an Ernie, and the other one looked like a Bert. The movie character names are purely coincidental.

Also, It’s a Wonderful Life was originally a flop and didn’t become popular until after it entered the public domain in 1974. It’s not impossible they knew about it when they were developing Sesame Street, but there’s a good chance they didn’t.

That didn’t stop Elmo Saves Christmas from having a little fun with it, though.

"Sesame Street is definitely one of the most influential kids shows of all time. Running for over 55 years and thousands of episodes is proof of this. However, Sesame Workshop has had trouble in keeping the show on the air for various reasons. Today, December 13, 2024, it was announced that Sesame Workshop and Max (formerly known as HBO Max) would no longer host episodes on the streaming service. Here’s what you need to know.

Before we get into this, we need to go back to 2015. When PBS opted to no longer premiere Sesame Street first on PBS Kids, it was decided that, from season 46 onwards, new episodes and specials would come out first on HBO, and then later come out on PBS Kids. A few years later, with the launch of HBO Max, the deal was slightly altered to have episodes, specials, and other projects premiere there first, though it would still air on PBS Kids later down the line. This deal would last for 5 years."

Netflix will be the new home for Sesame Street.

Finally, PBS will get episodes for free and funny, I thought it would be Apple, but nah.

Good one, deck chair with Discovery Edition.

well, apple Sesame Street would been worse, imagine they have to say the letter a?, I think Netflix is a better fit given the fact that service also has other Jim Henson works

What's confusing statement.

Sesame Street episodes are produced at Sesame Workshop and Apple would be distribute to Apple TV+ and later, PBS get episodes for free, so not difference with Netflix.

I guess that Apple waited until one of streamer pick up, so it would be backup if no one want to pick up and it is not highest priority for Apple, tho.

My concern with PBS on YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream and linear streaming services that where streamer's deal would force PBS to blackout like they did with Charlie Brown holiday special that is Apple TV+ exclusive nowadays.

If it's worldwide, does that mean it gets dubbed into other languages for the service?
Maybe we'll even get a Basque dub like they did for The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish?

Netflix confirmed that will be available to worldwide but they haven't say about dubbing, however dubbing isn't new and it has been used in episodes when aired in other countries.

Mexico has Plaza Sesamo (which I'm told is now just called "Sesamo"), although that was also seen in the U.S. (last time I checked, it was airing on the "V-me"* network). Would it also be available in Mexico, and what about other countries that have their own version of Sesame Street?

*As in "veme" ("watch me").

Glad I got you to watch Stranger Things.

If I may recommend more media for you to check out, here's a starter:

You've mentioned that haven't read the original TMNT comics from Mirage Studios. Well, this video by YouTuber "Soundout12" gives a decent roadmap for where to start:

dmxx116 really likes to wish for people not to return back to so and so because their films didn't do so well. I don't agree with everything he says, though I agree on that Jared Leto shouldn't play Skeletor.
I'm sorry but I disagree with what GRPHX said about the past five films with Daniel Craig as James Bond as well as the choice of Denis Villeneuve as director and Steven Knight as writer in the next film because I really doubt Villeneuve's take will be like the Craig films at all and besides, all of the stuff he mentioned happened before the Craig films such as Licence to Kill.

Hi, welcome to Toonzone

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
