Rule the World: Dragon Strike

This is an alternate version of the world we know. At this time, dragons have existed alongside humans since the dawn of time. They have been in wars as both enemies and allies. These creatures have sharp intellect for animals. Some even seem to understand the spoken languages of humans. They have very hard scales, and wings. The rarer breeds have unique qualities to them, like poison and the ability to breathe fire. Humanity is now in the age of gunpowder, so anti-air assaults from ships and land are a necessity. Likewise, aerial battles with men armed with guns and sword clash in one of the most dangerous forms of combat. Recently, there have been increased tensions between countries, and the world might be on the brink of war!!!

CURRENT POLITICAL MAP

At this point, I don't believe I need to set the template for sign ups, but just in case:

NAME:
GOVERNMENT:
DRAGON RELATIONS:
RESOURCES:
HAPPINESS:
DRAGONS/BONUSES:

Governments:
Monarchy - This is your typical government of this era, since this is the norm, people are used to this. Your rule is divine, and undisputed.
+2 Resources +2 Happiness

Dictatorship - This is total rule. Nobody but you has the say in what goes on. This makes things very productive, but your people are very unhappy.
+3 Resources +1 Happiness

Democracy - People have the choice. While you may have the power, anything your people don't agree with can easily be revoked. Watch out for going against their demands.
+1 Resources +3 Happiness

Dragon Relations
:
Companions - Your people view dragons as loyal companions, while not totally free, they aren't exactly under harsh oppression either. This is what your average county is. They will use what they have, and get more if need be, but wild dragons are frowned upon.
+2 to war rolls +2 Happiness

Sacred Creatures - Your people view the dragons as more than mere animals. The dragons enjoy total peace and harmony, so wild dragons will be more likely to help you out. This leads to a lack in military strength, but has unusual benefits.
+1 to war rolls +3 Happiness

Beasts of War - To your people, dragons are nothing more than simple animals. All dragons are forced to be part of wars, and any wild dragons are killed on sight. While your military may become strong, there may be reprecussions.
+3 to war rolls +1 Happiness

The Dragons
:
So here's my little spin on RTW. If enough people don't like this, it will be eliminated. While you do have dragons, they are living creates. Every 5-10 turns, you will need to find some way to insert new blood into your military's dragons, elsewise new offspring will be weak and frail.

Scouts - Scouting dragons are small and light. They are not that effective in battle, but will allow you to detect enemies, and wild dragons. 10 resources. Gives chance to find out about oncoming attacks.

Heavy Class Fighters - GIANT dragons. These were meant for nothing but war. They can be slow, but can take a hit and deliver a lot more back. 15 resources. Adds +1 to all war rolls.

Venomous - These dragons can bite. They have large fangs that have deadly poison. They are very effective against other dragons. 25 resources. Adds +3 to all war rolls.

Fire Breathing - The dragons of myth. Hardly any have been known to exist. There has been a rise in population recently though. They are effective against both dragons, and pretty much everything else. 30 resources. Adds +5 to all war rolls.

Now don't think that these are the only kinds out there! You'll just have to trade and explore......

Bonuses:
Anti-Air Navy - Upgrade your ships with capable defenses against dragons! 20 resources. Adds +3 to war rolls when defending coastal territory.

Trade Connections - Your people have exceptional trading skills. It will be much easier to bargain with others. 25 resources. Will slowly increase/decrease resources gains per turn over time.

Dragon Proffesionals - Well, pretty much the ultimate group of people you could get for everything about dragons. Need equipment? They have it. Need expert training? They have it. There's nothing they can't do with dragons. 30 resources. Adds +1 to war rolls, and player is no longer required to update dragon blood lines.

Fireproof Cities - You want you citizens to feel safe, right? These houses will be able to resist even the stongest of dragonfires......we hope. 8 resources. Adds +2 happiness per turn.

Advanced Farming methods - Get your farmers to start being eco friendly and use all that dragon dung just hanging around! Yea......for furtilizer. It works wonders. 10 resources. Adds + 1 resources per turn.

Coinage - A unified money system will make it much easier to get trade flowing, just don't let children or dragons eat the small metal coins. 20 resources. Adds +3 resources per turn.

Dragon Homes - Instead of nesting in the great wild, you can have some of these to make your dragons feel relaxed, or optimise them to increase a militaristic attitude. 25 resources. Either adds +5 happiness per turn, or +3 to war rolls.

Other Notes:
Now as you may have noticed, China is already colored. They will be an NPC, yes, but they will be there mostly for good trade. I promise you, NPC's will only be on the map for trade. They only fight if you attack them, and they will not take over your territory. If they sucessfully oust you out of their country if you attack them, they will close trade to you forever.

I think that's it for now.......Let's hope it runs smoothly!

You may want to look for another map. A lot of those borders look weakly drawn, and I always found updating the map more difficult when there were dozens of tiny islands with thick black. We also normally split up the larger nations so that somebody can't just start as Russia and have a huge advantage early on in the game. As for the investments, it doesn't seem like there are enough "normal" ones that don't involve dragons, but regardless of that, it doesn't really say what the investments do. Fire breathing, for example. Does it add to war rolls? If so, how much does it add? It doesn't say.

I put a blunt description. It should be kind of obvious. Besides, I know how it's going to all work out, so just trust me. Or don't, then we can just stop the game if it's really that bad. Feel free if anyone has anymore questions.

Calm down. I was just offering some advice. People like to know how everything operates, especially when it's a very expensive investment. And having a user-friendly map will save you a lot of time later on when wars start and territory is constantly changing hands, back and forth.

Look, are you signing up or not? Besides, I've been scrambling to find some of my old notes I made on the game, and they will hopefully be found and added before the game starts. I'm not sure if anyone else besides you knows that this is up now.

Okay, I wasn't initially sure about a dragon game, but this looks like a cool start. I'm definitely in. That said, Huntsman's suggestions were valid. I agree that the map should be edited a bit, with the largest nations broken up. Being able to start with a piece of land that big is an unfair advantage, plain and simple. And there needs to be more description for the investments. That you know how they work is good, but the rest of us need to know the specifics of what we can do with them, and having to ask a bunch of questions about how everything works will be awkward, time-consuming, and generally inefficient. I'd strongly advise getting everything streamlined now, before the game starts. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble later.

My plan for now, subject to change if the rules are modified:

Name: Drakkenheim (Leader: King Harald Wyrmfang)
Location: Norway
Capital: The Fjord Fortress (inner edge of the longest fjord on the big, southwetern bulge section)
Government: Monarchy
Dragon Relations: Sacred Creatures
Resources: 0
Happiness: 0
Dragons/Bonuses: None
Color: Dark Green
............................................

Hail, fellow rulers! I should need no introduction, but as my generosity knows no bounds, I shall enlighten the more ignorant among you. I am His Royal Majesty, King Harald Wyrmfang! Lord of the Fjords and ally of the mighty serpents of the north seas and mountains! Through my veins runs the blood of a noble dynasty that has justly and capably ruled the majestic Kingdom of Drakkenheim for more generations than can be counted, far back into the mists of antiquity. Always have the local dragons been our loyal and trusted friends, and we owe much of our success to their wisdom and power.

But great though this land and its history may be, my forefathers have long lacked a quality that I happen to possess in abundance: ambition. To carve our glorious cities and castles into Norway's mountains and fjords, and to forge our alliance with the dragons...these are great accomplishments, to be sure, but they were complete centuries ago. Stagnation has begun to set in, and I will not tolerate or allow it. Under my leadership, I hereby vow that Drakkenheim shall expand! We will spread our rule across the land, bring our enlightened culture to the pitiable rabble of peasants and barbarians of Europe, and perhaps even beyond! We will explore, discover, create! We will become the greatest empire this world has ever witnessed! This is my solemn vow, and I shall move heaven and earth to uphold it! So I say to ye, rulers of lesser nations: aid us and prosper! Oppose us and burn! So declares King Wyrmfang! FOR THE GLORY OF DRAKKENHEIM!

With Jacob taking USA, that frees me up to do my second favorite nation! That said, I'm slightly confused as to what our baselines of happiness and resources are in our application.

My fellow members of the British Isles....TOO LONG have we been seperated....TOO LONG have we demanded superstion and fear to rule our lives. However, this is no reason to cling to our insecurities of the past, but rather its glories. In this new golden age, I promise to you, my citizens and my dragons, to lead you to a brighter tomorrow and to a new golden age not unlike that of the great man who serves as my namesake. ALL HAIL ALBION!

I think I'm just going to sit this one out and wait for Johnny's next game in a couple of months.

What year is this supposed to be starting in? I'm assuming early Industrial Age (1800s) but clarification would be solid.

I'm going to try this, but as I'm sure everyone's noticed, I don't spend as much time here as I used to. That said, I got a fun idea for this today, so I want to try it out.

Chikyū no aisatsu-jin. Watashi wa Pikare Boshijo desu. Watashi wa anata ni subete no ikutsu ka no pointo o korosu koto o keikaku. Sono jiten de tanoshii koto, shi kashiko no jiten de, watashi wa sore ga kenedi-shi wa tokuni, anata to no yūkō kankei o kaishi suru kashikoi watashi no tame de wanai ka to omoimasu reru koto. Watashi wa kātā mo aru sensō no tsugi no gēmu o tanoshimi ni shite imasu. Reneboshiro wa saigo no shōrideshou.

Oh, I suppose you guys didn't understand that, right? No worries. I am Joe Plum, translator of Pikare Boshijo. He and I both say hello to all the world leaders, and that we wish we could all live together in peace, country to country, and human to dragon. We will strive to achieve a new understanding of these creatures, and we shall succeed! As a team of countries, our world shall succeed!

Watashi wa anata ga baka, subete de sore o itte inai.

This is an experiment. If everyone gets annoyed with this, I will play more traditionally, but I wanted to try something that hasn't been done to my knowledge.

Sorry for no update yesterday, but I had some volunteer work to do at a school. Anywho what I was going to post:

From what I'm getting, this isn't exactly a smooth start. Sadly, I lost 99% of the notes I took while playing Superhumans, so many of my ideas are scattered somewhere. So I'm gonna give two options to you people.

1. People keep on signing up, and I will either hopefully find my notes, or I will just try to remember as best I can and balance as we go.

2. We can just scrap this idea, and go on to the next person's game.

On a side note, if the vote is to continue, I will be redoing the map, so anyone who selects a large, undivided country, like Russia or the U.S., they're going to be split up soon.

I say we give this game a try. As I understand it, it will be months before anyone else is ready to host one. Whether this works or not, at least it's better than waiting.

Hey people! Here's what's up:

1. I changed the map. Tell me if you have any issues with it.

2. Jacob, I added in the missing info you left out, so tell me if you want anything different.

3. I didn't find my notes, so I'm winging it.

4. If there aren't that many issues, I will start this thing tomorrow.

5. For the first five turns, taking territories will be free. You can only have one per turn, and once the free period is over, they will cost 3 resources each.

Did you ever mention what time period this is supposed to be set in?

Look, ALTERNATE universe. I don't know the time frame, and I don't care. This is an ALTERNATE universe, so for all I know it could be the year 3,000,000 and have this technology. I'm just going to do this by rounds.

Johnny started these games. He puts more thoughts into his characters than anybody. I'm sure he just wanted to know more about the setting in order to come up with a better character for him to play as. I know I'm not the best person to give these lectures, as I was a horrible host, but you're going to get asked a lot of questions over the course of this game. You can't just get angry whenever they're asked.

Not angry, just currently preoccupied with fixing other parts of the game so much, that a time frame seems very insignificant.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
