Kikaider review thread.

6/17 - "City of Rain" [5]
6/18 - "Negative Fragments" [6]
6/19 - "Afterglow of Regret" [7]
6/20 - "Friends" [9]

Why I didn't get the FG thread up in time? Spent a brief moment of the hour in total darkness. (4 hours of Virtualdub encoding for nothing :( )

Wow. That was just sad. :(

Like Cowboy Bebop sad... :(

.....

This episode was ok.

B

BTW, how many more episodes are there of Kikaider after today's episode?

what is with the bent cigarettes in Anime anyway? Spike had one, Wolfwood had one, and now this guy in Kikaider..

I agree. That was just awful, it nearly brought me to tears.

.....

I couldn't help but think that I had watched "Waltz For Venus, Part 2!"

Wow, that was an impressive episode. Plenty of development for Jiro, and the woman Jiro stayed with and the other guy were well done, especially considering they were one shot characters. I agree the plot was quite Bebop-esque, but that's definetly a good thing.

Good fight, too...Jaguar's head got pwned.

And the dub is great as well. Dave Wittenburg (I believe that is right) is doing an incredible job as Jiro.

Miyuki and Taru, a tragic love story in the Kikaider Episode Review of "City of Rain".

You know, this may be the most serious (outside of Reign I'm guessing) of all the anime on Adult Swim, and I mean serious as in "not a lot of comedey, but instead the series focus more on drama and emotion then anything else" not "the most complicated or adult plots" serious. And this episode just continues to prove that for me. First we still have Jiro on the run, now for being considered so diffrent and ugly and imperfect (he even said the later two adjectives at the end of the episode) and runs in Miyuki, an intresting character who has a heart connected to a man named Taru, a guy who would do anything to get money, even blow up a city. But in the end, realizies that his love for Miyuki had made him realize his true feelings in life, and in the end helped save the city by removing all the bombs, even though he died because of it. Which helped set up the ending scene, which used the words Miyuki said earlier to make a very powerful and emotional sequence where we have Jiro remembering what she said after seeing Taru's fallen body. Other highlights: Seeing what drives Jiro, and that's to see Mitsuko again, Mitsuko and Masaru's devotion to Jiro (espically seeing Mitsuko reflect on why she tried to protect him earlier) and finding out a bit more on DARK and Dr Gill's even scheme. A fantastic episode that has the heart and soul of a true champion, even if it dosen't contain anything light to wash it all down. A

Quality episode. It definitely evoked some memories of Cowboy Bebop with the sad twist at the end. Poor Taru. Things are building, though. Can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

I was uncertain at first, but Kikaider is shaping up to be really good. The art and animation styles are unique, the music is nice, and the story seems to be progressing towards something interesting. Fine addition to the block.

I guess they're just going for the "tired, rumpled, weather-beaten" look.

I know I wasn't suppose to read these together but it brought a smile to my face....

Anyway that was a good episode. I've been enjoying this show from the start... I wish I could've seen what shot him.

Oh, I know. My heart goes out to those poor bent cancer sticks.. :(

Heh, oops.

City of Rain

Well, this is just a "me too!", but that was indeed sad. We did learn that Dr. Gil doesn't mind blowing up the city.

Smoking is popular in Japan, actually. Of course, it is in America as well, but even more so in Japan, in comparison. Atleast, that's what my dad said.

If the rest of the episodes end up being this good, I might just go out and buy the DVD's. A great episode

nice episode I think it was a quality episode I cant wait to see where the stories going I hope jiro gets back with mitsuko soon for some reason I like seeing Mitsuko and Jiro together.still liking the clean animation never seen a anime with this good clean anime before

Well Cowboy Be.... Kikaider had quite the episode last night. Character development by the tons, good story, and such a sad ending. This series has all ready passed Reign, 0083, and YYH in favorite series and quickly catching IY. Grade: A

I knew I wasn't the only one who thought they were playing an episode of Cowboy Bebop. :D

I was uncertain if this show would be my cup of tea, but it's been really impressing me lately. If the rest episodes are as good as this, I would definitely say it's one of the better anime series out there.

I'm glad every body's digging the show so much. I wish other Tokusatsu stuff got this kinda anime treatment.

I'm loving the show and you guys are going to flip over the next episode where Jiro goes head to head with a
vampire bot who slings tombstone crosses using a kind of telekenisis
.

I'm trying to get JeffC at Japan Hero to post up a live-action clip of this show so you can see how far it's come.

I'm easily forgiving of plastic costumes, but you should see the ones on Kikaider. :D Here's a complete review and here's a quote that best describes the costumes:

The DARK robots (or Destructoids) are themselves quite bulky and clumsy looking and it is almost comical how they lumber about (in the Black Horse episode, you can actually see the stuntman trying in vain to keep his “head” from falling off while running). The Android Men with their gray leotards and spray painted “Chuck Taylor Converse” high-top sneakers also come across as more laughable than menacing. Professor Gill (played with over-the-top glee by Ando Mitsuo) was also a bit wacky looking (he would often talk directly to the audience during his scenes).

^_^

I can't help but have high respect for the actors who play up their roles so hard with just less than a shoe-string budget for costumes. :D

The anime is missing one key thing that I absolutely love in the origingal and that's how Jiro comes to save the day. In the live action version some helpless individual gets jumped and at the last second when all hope is lost.... a sad guitar tune begins to play.

The monsters look about frantically to then see Jiro walk out from behind a tree or ontop of a building looking at the monsters with open contempt and then the fight begins.

It's cheese like that I miss.

Character designs are fantastic and classic. I absolutely love Jiro's color scheme, guitar strapped across his back and his white goggles.

After tonight's episode, I'll start seeing episode I haven't seen yet. And the coming of Hakaider, where it's said the true fun begins for both the anime and the Tokusatsu.

What I didn't know is that Hakaider inspired Darth Vader??? Where did George Lucas get a copy of Kikaider back in the 70's?

Is it a crime that Lucas was a fan of sentai television series to actually buy a tape from Japan and see some of the episodes? Because that's what probably happen.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
