It is kind of sad, but could also be useful. I like the idea of having someone to pal around and kill time with if you were alone in an unfamiliar city. Of course, this could also invite abuse, since the "friend" is still a stranger who might try to take advantage of you somehow.

I thought that was the original idea behind hiring "escorts." And $20/hr? Heck, Id be someones friend for free!
