Powerpuff Girls Live Action CW Series In Development

I have a feeling that this series is not going to get off the ground so smoothly because of all of these problems going on. First, they had to rewrite the script and now Chloe Bennet has left the show. It makes me wonder if this show is still going to be made or not.

Personally, that would be for the best. The last thing The Powerpuff Girls need is to be rewritten so that they’re more “realistic” in order to appeal to to the “adults” in the family who saw the original 1998 series “back in the day”. It isn’t really fair to the original show (or even the two original shorts that were made before it)…even if it did start going downhill at one point (long story). Not only that, but it misses the point of the original show: a comedy superhero show that isn’t (necessarily) supposed to make sense, but also shows that anyone can be a “superhero” no matter how old they are*. The way this primetime show for The CW is being planned, it just shows what they know about it. Not every superheroic crime fighter (solo or part of a team) has to be given the Christopher Nolan/Zack Snyder “Dark Knight Universe” treatment (I refuse to call it the “DC Extended Universe” or names like that). I mean, even comic books (superhero comics or otherwise) aren’t dark and edgy all the time, or even ironic. The bottom line is that The Powerpuff Girls are one of the most unique superhero teams out there. It would really be the worst thing in the world if them and their show were given a deconstruction where they’re suddenly now part of the crowd. It would also be a slap in the face to the viewers who were inspired by the original show to be “superheroes” in their own way; as if to give them some kind of “reality check”. In any case, there are some lines that you just don’t cross, and I kind of hope that the writers reconsider…

250% THIS. They already failed with that Nuclear Waste Tier 2016 reboot, as it is. It's time to put this old dog to sleep so we can remember it for what it did right and come up with something just as good as Classic era PPG (1998), or how about something better than that that captures what made THAT series so good at the same time, please and thank you very much.

I'd just pull the plug, let this franchise RIP and move on to something, as in make something actually original for once, that has a chance of actually being good and entertaining, rather than just more politically correct (I hope that term is OK to describe how I feel about this, as it is...) nonsense, honestly.

“Let sleeping dogs lie”, in other words? I can’t really agree with that, either. Long story short, it would work if it was done right; something that can’t be said about this planned primetime show (or the 2016 series from what I’ve heard)…

I admire your optimism, I'll give you that. Too bad the writing is on the the proverbial wall that this ain't gonna work - not unless they start over and..... Well. The one thing I can think of? They are forced to sit down and observe, in painstaking detail and taking of serious notes, that of the actual classic series (1998, not whatever 2016 was trying and failed royally to ever be.) and learn from that what people really want outta this. People that I and you cannot otherwise speak for, nonetheless, that know that this ain't sadly enough gonna work, as it currently is now.

I have a feeling that The CW made a mistake on passing on those Arrowverse shows in favour of this one.

I don't want to bring it up too much considering this is just a rumor, but there are reports the CW is either going to be ending or moving those remaining arrowverse shows as HBO Max is looking to be the major home for all live action DC Properties but again, that is just a rumor and pretty unrelated to the topic at hand.

What is more related is that it's pretty obvious of all the "major" networks that CW is especially desperate to mine for any property or series they sort of have the rights to in order to make a show to not have to come up with anything original on their own as I think only... 3 of their 30 still ongoing series aren't sipnoffs or remakes or revivals or come from an existing source. Thus why I get them trying this series and after other shows wound up as hits like this why it's still going in that direction. Though I don't think this is a good idea and the fact that despite all the backlash they're still going through with it pretty much says "we put too much money into this project to write it off as a failure" even though I can't see this series succeeding at all even if it does somehow get green lit. And considering how the last piloted ended you really think this one has any chance?

This is a doomed idea from the start for the simple fact that PPG simply doesn't lend itself to live-action. It's a show about super powered little girls kicking tail, with a talking mad genius chimp, green skinned juvenile delinquents and a fuzzy pink hillbilly mascot monster; it's just too cartoonish to work in live-action. Also, this idea reeks of those awful fanfics and DeviantArt pages that attempts to age the Girls up in an attempt to sexualize them, and the less said about those the better (just don't search for any of them since as of yet there's no Purell for the brain); but it's clear the CW has poured too much money into this train wreck to simply let it die, so they really have no choice but to go ahead with it and let it join the likes of Cop Rock and Turn-On in the annuls of infamy.

You know I agree with what you said and I think that CW powerpuff girls should be rewritten as a comedy series like the original but aimed for the older audience who watched the original series and pay homage to it instead of the mess which is leaked and let it air on HBO max since the cw only cares for teen angsty drama shows and arrowverse shows, heck this short has the right idea .

They just made a pilot.
The first version which they reject and made them go back to square one.

Um...yeah. I don't see any difference, especially since PPG needs to remain a franchise that everyone can watch. "Paying homage" in this case seems to be more like parodying the show and the characters, which this planned show is planning to do anyway.

Although, I will admit, the original show was pretty bad about "paying homage" to various things in later episodes, to the point where it eventually jumped the shark. I mean, the Mayor seemed to get more and more stupid in those later episodes, but still.

Look, everyone, I don't usually say this, but I kind of hope this show doesn't get made at all. Despite its flaws in later seasons, the original 1998 series still left a lasting legacy that doesn't deserve to get stepped on by a primetime series for older viewers (in any way, shape, or form) that ultimately tries to tell everyone what to think...

The show is definitely not going to be made.

Guys, it's only a pilot, not a series. Whether or not Powerpuff gets turned into a series will depend on how well the pilot is received.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
