"Paramount+ (Streaming Service)" News and Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I thought Boardwalk Empire was the most recent gangster TV series to be a critical and commercial success.
What about Peaky Blinders?
Haven't seen either. Yes, both were successful. Though not on the level of Goodfellas or stuff like that. There's also King of Harlem with Forrest Whitaker and D'noffrio which I actually watched some of a few years back. These are just not huge hits in the public mind.

Eh, I wouldn't say that either show aren't huge hits in the public mind. If anything, the gangster genre fared better in television during the last decade.

ViacomCBS added 4.3 million global streaming subscribers (not specified) to reach 47 million subscribers.

1) Not where they need to be in order to be relevant.
2) No US numbers for P+ disclosed, which is...not great.

Honestly, both this and Peacock suffer the same issues IMHO. They need better content. Also they have alot of stuff on other services like Hulu.

They really don't need to do too much with it, it still might just be a window dressing streaming service anyway. I only got it for the stuff they took off Hulu from Nickelodeon and a few other shows I couldn't get anywhere.
I'm glad some shows are redundant on other services like "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" is better to watch on Hulu than Paramount Plus since for some reason, they didn't pay for the music rights on P Plus so there's moments where it's weird stock music playing over scene instead of the original music.

Also CBS needs more sports in general, then they could put some stuff on Plus as well.

Or maybe on Paramount Movie Network and MTV, for more high-profile sporting events.

I had proposed ViacomCBS be the main rightsholder to NHL games starting this season. with The CW as the primary broadcast outlet (with a limited schedule on CBS, around the network's other sports commitments), and Paramount Network (soon to be Paramount Movie Network) as the primary cable outlet. ESPN and Turner ended up getting the rights

For years, CBS has typically partnered with Turner to split broadcast rights to a specific event between broadcast and cable. Like March Madness.

But they don't need to do that anymore now that ViacomCBS is a thing. I wouldn't be surprised if ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks replaces Turner as the cable partner of March Madness beginning in 2033.

I particularly propose Paramount Movie Network be the outlet if CBS acquires a share of the cable rights to MLB later this decade. If the NFL does reverse mirrors for Sunday afternoon games on CBS and Fox in the future, CBS would use Paramount Movie Network as their partner since it is in more homes than CBS Sports Network (which is also the reason PMN would air MLB games).

The CW should also be used as a secondary outlet for CBS Sports programming. CBS holds the broadcast rights to a number of mid-major conferences in college basketball for instance, with games of those conferences airing on CBS Sports Network most of the time. More high-profile games can be promoted to The CW.

The CW can also air a weekly college football doubleheader during the fall, with the noon game hosted by Conference USA (which could be transforming into a football-only conference soon since it has been raided by two other conferences), and the 3:30 game by the Mountain West Conference. CBSSN also holds the rights to the home games of some independent teams, and such games against Power 5 teams can be promoted to primetime on The CW for a wider audience.

These lower-tier sports would be a gateway for The CW to potentially obtain higher-profile sports, one day elevating it to the same status as ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. Adding sports is how Fox became legit before it was 10 years old.

The only sport I can honestly see them snag is the NBA, but they'd have to do some sort of venture with Turner/WarnerMedia a la March Madness to get it, especially because ESPN/ABC, for all the garbage studio coverage, has been pretty decent with the league (I picture a scenario where the Finals are alternated between ABC and CBS each year; kinda like the arrangement the NHL has with Turner and ESPN).

1) ViacomCBS has nowhere near the capitalization to outbid WarnerMedia for the full tournament, hence why they decided to share the rights in the firs tplace.
2) None of ViaCBS's cable networks have any legacy of airing major sports outside of TNN airing NASCAR races when CBS had them and Spike's stints with WWE and TNA (which don't really count since pro wrestling isn't considered a legit sport due to its predetermined outcomes), UFC and Bellator (all combat sports skewed towards male audiences). The last thing cable networks want right now is more network decay. It makes more sense to partner with Turner because their networks have a far wider reach and benefit from not having a consistent overall programming focus (TruTV is sort of the oddball given it was the former Court TV, but when you're carried in 91 million households it doesn't really matter).

Baloney. Fox became legit by getting NFL (which isn't a "low-tier" sport, BTW) because a) Rupert Murdoch is filthy rich and b) CBS was caught with their pants down despite almost everyone warning them in the late '80s and early '90s that their incompetence post-M*A*S*H would come back to bite them in the ass.

The NCAA could simply say they want only one media conglomerate to air March Madness. And since CBS was airing the tournament before Turner was, seniority goes to ViacomCBS, which by 2033 could very well be a 51/49 JV of Charter and National Amusements with the former controlling. It doesn't matter how much money WB Discovery (which itself could later become part of Amazon) is willing to bid. The higher bid doesn't always win.

Furthermore if CBS gets a share of OTA rights to the NBA the games would have to be outsourced to The CW because CBS has a lot on their plate already. That could end up helping the CW become a peer of the Big 4.

Remember also that CBS Sports Network is in fewer homes than the flagship networks of VCDMN. So it is a non-starter for leagues like the big 4.

I hope they and Turner Sports make some deal to have the NHL Stanley Cup in years Turner has the rights able to air it on CBS so it will still get OTA coverage like the ESPN/ABC Stanley Cup years will have. That's a good idea to work together, the only factor I can think of is Discovery willing to continue that relationship? ESPN did cut their baseball rights so the Monday Night /Wednesday Night games are open and I haven't seen any announcement, they are exclusive games (meaning local stations have their own games ) but they're something and might be a nice fit for Paramount Plus. That option won't be open until 2028, when the current NHL contract expires.

The Big 4 would have to be on board with airing games on the CW. Given the daily Nielsen charts for the network currently, they'll stay far away from that network as possible.

The first time I mentioned "big 4" in my last post it was referring to ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.

The second time was MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL.

Just so we're clear.

Fox ratings weren't all that great before they got the NFL.

In fact, because of the character of a certain Fox Corporation asset, the NFL could very well split with Fox if that asset isn't shut down or divested by the end of the 2033 season. This could open the door for The CW to pick up the NFC package. This in turn could lead the CW in many NFC markets to move to higher-profile stations like what happened when Fox got the NFC package.

That certain asset has been vocally trashing the NFL for years and the NFL responds by....signing an 11 year contract extension with their sister network?

Yeah, they care. /sarc

ViacomCBS has teamed up with Wattpad Webtoon Studios to develop shows based on Wattpad and Webtoon stories for Paramount+. This can't be good...

I was thinking family-friendly films in the Paramount library, regardless of whether they were co-produced by Nick Movies or not, should be under the Nick portal.

This would include pre-Viacom merger titles like Popeye 1980 and Charlotte's Web 1973, and kid-friendly Miramax titles like the Spy Kids movies and Gordy.

But Nick didn't make these movies 100% so it makes sense they're not under the Nick portal.

Nick should be the only kids brand ViacomCBS cares about though.

But it's not. It's not only about Nick and I don't think they even care whether it's Nick brand or some other studio brand. Nick will be their main focus though.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
