MADISON, Wis. – Oscar G. Mayer, retired chairman of the Wisconsin-based meat processing company that bears his name, has died at the age of 95.
Mayer's wife, Geraldine, said he died of old age Monday age at Hospice Care in Fitchburg.
He was the third Oscar Mayer in the family that founded Oscar Mayer Foods, which was once the largest private employer in Madison. His grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, died in 1955 and his father, Oscar G. Mayer Sr., died in 1965.
Mayer retired as chairman of the board in 1977 at age 62 soon after the company recorded its first $1 billion year. The company was later sold to General Foods and is now a business unit of Kraft.
Mayer's first wife, Rosalie, died in 1998. He married Geraldine Fitzpatrick in 1999.

I didn't know that guy was still alive.

No disrespect but I thought that it was just the name of the company.

r.i.p. oscar mayer.

If I was an Oscar Mayer weenier *sniff* that is what I'd truly want to be. *chokes up* If I were... a... :crying:

Hmmm, I wonder if they'll convert the weenie mobile into a hurst.

Weak joke.

R.I.P America's favorite weenie guy.

I especially didn't see this one coming, seeing as how I thought he died quite some time ago.

hotdogs will never taste the same to me again. :crying:

The reaction to this is interesting. Today we just assume that the kindly farmer or or housewife or whatever on the package is wholly a marketing creation, because it's so common.

Why did you say Oscar Mayer died in 96 when you also said he died at 95? Awk...ward!!

Aww...that means we would cancel those Lunchables commercials! I miss him now and his products. :( I better bookmark this, just to remind this sad tribute.

I think you meant to say we have to cancel those Lunchables commercials which, no offense, is not true. You're probably too young to understand this but even if a company owner/CEO/creator died it does mean that they're going to shut down their business because of it.

I Agree With You...

I think I'm probably old enough to learn about that but you're right.

I say put him in a Wiener-Mobile and give him a viking funeral.

I've always wondered why he and the company pronounce the last name MY-er instead of MAY-er.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
