A couple years back I asked on here where the three InuYasha movies should be considered in the series. I received an answer placing them from right after he got his backlash wave in the first to around the Shichinintai arc for the third.

Now I see in the schedule a fourth IY movie for, December, is it? Where should that be placed in the series?

If I'm not mistaken, after.

This is sort of a good question. I'm a continuity buff. I know that the Inuyasha movies can sort of be viewed outside of the show but I still think it's cool to know where the authors might intend to place the movies? I know that for the Cowboy Bebop movie it goes between episode 22 and 23. But without spoilers could somebody give me an indication for where in the series the Inuyasha movie 3 and 4 would go. Also does the Full Metal Alchemist movie go in the series? I haven't finished the show yet so I wouldn't want to get spoilers reading some plot synopsis. Does the FMA movie belong after the series OR like the Bebop movie is it supposed to take place somewhere during the series? Thanks to anyone that has simple answers to these questions.

This chronology may not be correct. It could be argued that the movie takes place before the end of the series, probably right before episode 160. The proof is

during the closing credits of movie 4, Jaken sees Kagome's bike leaning against the well, tries to ride it and inadvertantly crashes it into a tree, irreparably breaking it. In episode 160, she references her losing her bike in the feudal era and is given a new one in this episode.

Either way, Duke's answer above holds true.

I always looked at it the same way many looked at the DBZ movies: they take place in a completely different timeline. And even though they could fit in the timelime, one element is just out of place enough that it wouldn't work. Either way, it's all entertainment (though I'm not an IY fan by any stretch).

True; because the movies are not canon, they DO take place in sort of a different timeline. However, the episode guide from Inu-Goya that I posted is 100% true and official. Inu-Goya ( Patches' Website ) is one of the most informative and well-known Inu-Yasha Websites on the internet -- it is referred to by many.
