I would say not, I listened to a podcast or two that outlines why it's a grift.

Depends on if you think art in some gallery or auction is worth buying and trading.

Someone can just right click copy one of those NFT pictures, if I buy a painting, I can hang it in my house and only people I invite in can see it. The painting is art, these NFTs are not, IMO.

Here's my hot take on the phenomenon. I see no use in owning an NFT for personal use in the same way I would with a piece of physical artwork due to its lack of tangibility and seeing how unattractive most of them are. However, I don't see any use in bullying or unfollowing someone on the sole basis of them investing in NFTs just because you don't like them. At best, you're proving their view that you're blindly hating on them.

As for whether this trend in animation will catch on, probably not if they continue to be this shoddy and low-effort.

If someone tries to get me involved in pyramid scheme, I would explain to them why I think it is a bad idea. They may not be grifters themselves, but merely taken in by the grift, but I am not giving my money to something I think is a scam and letting the other person know that it is a scam is doing that person a favor if they do not have bad internet.

I don't think suggesting to someone that something is a bad idea is not bullying them. Now if you make your case and they are still not convinced, then you should drop it.

same applies to NFT. The copy of the picture has no value, just as the person who takes a picture of your hanged painting and hangs that in their house. Like I said, though, the main objective isn't to own it as much as it is how long does it take before you make a profit from selling it.

The last NFT cartoon Saberspark mentioned was a CGI commercial for "Cryptoland" which is some sort of scheme to buy a small island for bitcoin enthusiasts using NFTs of the mascot character.

NFTs exist for one purpose and one purpose only: to give wealthy people something to flex their monetary muscle with. Rich people need to have that feeling that they can afford something other people can't get. But with the rise of infinitely reproducable digital media, rich people are being denied that special feeling of superiority. So in order to fabricate that feeling, they utilize NFTs strictly as a way of saying "this piece of digital media is unique and special because I paid more money for it than most non-rich people earn in a year".

It's a shame we can't at least somehow use NFTs as a way to trick rich people into helping others. Like maybe give away free cancer treatment to kids or free food to starving people or pay for some poor kid's college fund as a free bonus with each $100,000 worth of digital memes or crappy animations they buy. Sort of make it like an extra bonus that rich people can ignore while buying the thing they actually care about.

OpenSea's refusal to take down stolen artwork (which constitutes most of the platform's content) due to user backlash is certainly not doing themselves any favor in improving NFTs repututation among the art community. Even from an pure investment standpoint, I wouldn't want to buy anything from that service since there's no telling what's genuine and what's not.
