Nintendo E3 Conference and Collective "Meh. Alright" Thread

BTW, did anyone think Wave Race when Reggie was playing the jet ski game?

Yeah I kind of did. It was hillarious to see that. Makes me wonder if they have a Wave Race for the Wii in development?

Mr. Drums was awesome, even his last name is Drums...

I'm afraid I still don't understand what this accessory does. I though the Wii Remote's detections were pretty accurate already; does this just enhance that or does it do anything special?
The Wiimote can only register broad things like "swing left", "swing up" and "stab", but not how you're swinging it. The new attachment fixes that. (making things like swordfighting and Tennis much more plausible than they were before)
Basically, the way I understand it is this: the Wiimote can currently detect motion relative to itself, OR it can detect where you're pointing the remote's sensor. But it cannot combine those two ideas. In Wii Sports, for example, it doesn't know where you're standing relative to the screen AND how you're swinging the bat -- just how you're swinging the bat. Thus, when you're playing the Tennis minigame, you can move side-to-side all you like, but it doesn't matter; it's all about the swing. This also means that as long as you have the room, 4-player action isn't incredibly complicated; the system just sees 4 sets of swinging motions, it doesn't keep track of 4 positions.

Now, for the sake of simplicity I said "it doesn't know where you're standing", but the important thing is it also doesn't know where your hands are. Thus, something like lightsaber combat would still feel somewhat restricted, because you'd just be able to control blade rotation and velocity, not hand position. (This is probably also why Wii Sports boxing, while pretty fun in my opinion, never felt completely intuitive.) With the new attachment, you should theoretically be able to control hand position and possibly also limited body movement. (For the sake of multiplayer and simply not requiring people to stand directly in front of the screen, they'll probably want to keep body position recognition to a minimum.)

At least, that's my understanding of the situation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This has potential to be a significant upgrade to the Wii, as long as developers know how to use it. I also predict a new Wii bundle that comes with this attachment and Wii Sports Resort.

I'm personally hoping for Elite Beat Agents Wii.

Looks like Nintendo is the one responsible for all the great internet memes this E3. XD

Is terrible as this was, at least I didn't almost fall asleep like at the Sony one. Ugh.

Microsoft had the best conference, no question. And even that was fairly average.

so same e3 conference result as last year? microsoft wins by default because the other two shoot themselves in the foot?

Someone REEEAAALLY needs to change the title of this thread

I thought last year was bad... ugh! :(

From what I understand, the remote contains an accelerometer which detects which way you're moving the controller and how fast. The MotionPlus will have something else in it that can detect more acute changes in movement and orientation.

I just realized how sad that is.

I miss E3.

The MotionPlus is literally just a +1 for the Wiimote to give it the functionality we were promised in the first place.

Tremendously disappointing E3, for ALL the companies. No really big surprises, nothing I'm really excited about...and I own all the consoles.

Well you did better than me since I feel asleep during Sony. Like I said before... Microsoft was the King this year. More game that I want, appealing to a new audience, and strong reaction around is what makes a good Press conference for me.

The only thing that has me curious about the Wii Sports Resort is if that "cute puppy" design will be apart of the Mii channel.

...Yeah that's it.

Hmm, yeah...no Mario, no Zelda, no update on any franchise except for Animal Crossing. It makes you wonder when the next killer game for Wii is going to come from Nintendo, if one actually does.

wow this was with out a doubt nintendos weakest E3 Press conference in some time. Well E3 is'nt over yet so maybe they'll announce somthing big like they did with brawl. If not I'm just going to say how happy I am to have a 360 right now. Because I have'nt turned my wii on since Mario Kart came out and it dose'nt look like I will anytime soon...

Microsoft wins for Rock Band 2, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy 13, and actually showing a variety of different things. They might not have all been great, but at least they had something for everyone.

I'm now wishing they went last, as it built the other two way too high up in my head.

Instead of E3, I got E3 '07.

That'll learn me. :p

Apparently E3 has gone down hill since they changed it's format a few years ago. Well when I heard that E3 was happening this week (which was like ... only last week when I found out) I wasn't that thrilled for it.

Rumors are nice to talk about though, but it looks like that's pretty much all that came out.

Is it possible (at all) that things are being scaled back this year before we're in such a serious recession? Could that have anything to do with this? I mean, look how bad things are in the DVD front, and I think our horrible economy has a lot to do with it. Maybe they're holding off big titles until things pick back up, whenever that it.

Count me in as being disappointed, but I'll manage.

That still doesn't excuse Nintendo and their high-selling machine. Not to mention Yamauchi is the richest man in Japan.
