More old favorites rebooted

Melody was always a bit of a dim bulb, once someone compared her to Lindsay on Total Drama Action. Perhaps she's more naive than outright dumb.

That would be me. Just look at them, you don't think there are simularties? Though I don't know if Lindsay has Melody pure child like innoence and impossibility to hate. In both the comics and the cartoon, even Alexandra had a soft spot for Melody. Most of her hostility and schemes were aimed at Josie and sometimes Valerie. Rarely Melody.

One word to describe Melody no matter what she does, you can't stay mad at her. In the comics one of the recurring gags is Josie and Valerie's jealous towards the attention Melody gets from boys. But they never take it out on her, I remember in one comic, they were at the beach and as usual Melody got all the boy's attention and these boys upset that Melody spurned their affection start picking on her, Josie and Valerie save her.

Though some wonder if Melody is smarter than she acts, there was the car wash episode. The gang was washing a car, they try to assign Melody various tasks and she always messed up. In the last frame, you see them all working except Melody who is sitting on a hammeck with a drink while everyone else works.

As far as I understand it Josie is owned not ny the WB/HB but Universal (who made the feature film). I remember creator Dan DeCarlo fought to get the rights back but lost.. then died shortly afterward.

The movie was 10 years ago. Not sure if NBC-Universal still has the rights. They probably don't, which would explain Boomerang's recent fauxmercial that I cited in the earlier post.

I agree about taking away the "foiling supervillians" storylines but what would they be doing when not performing? Would they still be teens going to HS?

The perception I always had was that the gang were not in high school. Alan, in particular, looked too adult to be a teenager, even a high school senior. I would rather suggest they'd be in college.

It could be tricky. Even the movie chose to ignore the magical element Alexandra had in the comics. It's possible it could be too much. Were there any specific limits to the magic and how to make it backfire? I remember Alexandra had to make her magical wish/spell then stroke Sebastian's fur (who was supposedly the reincarnation of the Cabot's ancestor - a warlock). Somehow this makes Alexandra more powerful unless we find some way of neutalizing it - or making Alexandra having to use her magic for good a number of times in order to have a chance to use it for personal gain. Also, you'd have to make Alexandra useful (magic or no). Remember that line in the film, when Alexander asks her, "Just why are you here?" She wasn't a band member, not a roadie like Alan, not the manager like Alex. Perhaps one could have her as a financial backer (to keep Cabot Management, Inc. alive) or someone with contacts to get the gigs (which is why she's a partner with Alex).

The last two options make the most sense, magicdog. The Cabots, I thought, might be rather wealthy to begin with.

magicdog said:
Alex himself would be in need of recharacterization. In the original series they made him a Shaggy clone (as a coward who was looking to hide from trouble). This time we could make him more like his comic counterpart (kind of a jerk) but a likeable and useful jerk. Would we also have him going after Josie (like he did in the comics) or leave that out completely?

I thought he was more into Melody, to be honest with you. I felt she was more his speed.

magicdog said:
I like this, although I hope Valerie could still be the tech geek she was in the early days. She'd be the one who repairs the amps, etc. when the band can't afford to get something new or fancy. Melody was always a bit of a dim bulb, once someone compared her to Lindsay on Total Drama Action. Perhaps she's more naive than outright dumb.

I can see Val still being the tech whiz of the group, a MacGyver before there was a MacGyver. ;) :D Melody being more of the naive type makes sense, too.

magicdog said:
This too can be tricky - it might be better to get a good group of studio musicians/singers and release a soundtrack for the series instead. It can be tough to get enough support for a ready made band and get them to tour and sell out venues.

True. A full tour might not be feasible, but doing talk/variety shows (i.e. Ellen, Letterman, etc.) might not be so bad......

Kenny - you have obviously put a lot of time and effort into your idea for a new version of The Impossibles - but I really think they would be best used for a totally original cartoon - The Impossibles, (as I mentioned on the previous post on this topic), is my all-time favourite cartoon and I really feel that any but very minor changes will just be fixing what was never broken. You mentioned Bouncing Boy of the Legion of Super Heroes at one point - the Legion was my favourite super hero comic but all the reboots, going for "darker" tales, etc. totally spoiled it for me. The only real changes I would like for a new Impossibles series is longer episodes, (but more 10-15 minutes, maybe 25 for holiday specials), so we could hear one of their songs, (perhaps 2 for the specials), in full in each episode. And one thing I would change - which you would actually expand on - is to have no magical themes or characters. Very difficult to mix magic and sci-fi themes, (I love both separately), and for me it just did not work for this series. Just as I did not think the White Witch was a good choice for a Legion member - in her own comic, though, she could have been DC's answer to Dr. Strange and Harry Potter! I really like the fact that the Impossible's background, family history, etc. was not shown - I love the mystery of that and would prefer it to stay that way - the same for Big D, if not more so. I wouldn't like to see new members as either heroes or musicians - heroes who helped them out would be great, but not as team members. And possibly see them "jamming! with other musicians on stage now and again - as one-shots and not established characters like Josie and the Pussycats - that would just take attention away from the Impossibles. Perhaps have recurrent characters like girl friends, other agents, etc. pop up from time to time to add to the cast of characters. And keep it light-hearted fun but still, needless to say, with the emphasis on defeating wrong-doers and the team-work and friendship between the heroes. And I certainly would not want any but the most minor changes in their appearance. I really like their original costumes and looks except for Coil Man's cowl, (I have done fan art pictures in which he just has a mask shaped much like the cowl's eye section). If going for a more realistic look it should still look like the original Impossibles - they should be immediately recognisable. Sorry - you are good at art, I must say, but seeing my all-time favourite cartoon crush - Multi Man - reimaged as some muscle-bound jock-type with a neat nose and neat hair is just NOT what I want - he should stay skinny with a big nose and long shaggy hair falling over his eyes. Then and now I think he's the cutest character in the history of animation - and the Impossibles is the best cartoon. The fact that the heroes had different looks and body types and were all regarded as heart-throbs in the '60's cartoon said clearly that there is more than one way to look good. (Admittedly you have kept Coil Man's figure much the same).I really do think that what worked then would work now, (and indeed does - this and other old cartoons have many fans including those who were not even born until long after they first aired)! Again I really do not intend to offend you as I think you have great ideas and have put a lot of care and thought into them - I just would not like to see them used for the Impossibles. I wonder if it would be best if this cartoon was never redone?

Since Kenny asked so nicely.......! ;) :p :D

Winsome Witch: Originally a back-up feature to Secret Squirrel, and later used in the Banana Splits syndicated anthology package.

Kenny had suggested including Winnie with the Haunters. I'm open to that, but the first thing that needs be done is to re-establish Winnie, 44 years after her debut. In 2009, Winsome W. Witch won't be the stereotypical, broomstick riding, bumbling yet well-meaning sorceress. Instead, Winnie will be reincarnated as a stage magician who discovers that she really does have magic powers. Sort of like Zatanna the Magician in the DCU, except that Winnie's spells won't be done backwards. Cross Zatanna with Sabrina (as in the Melissa Joan Hart sitcom from the 90's), add the Haunters (which will also include the Boo Brothers), and you can do a lot of supernatural satire. FWIW, Winnie will discover that Winsome Witch isn't a stage name she chose at the start of her career, but rather her birth name. How she learns the truth about herself makes for a good movie, don'tcha think?

Ruff & Reddy: Hanna-Barbera's 1st TV stars have long passed their 50th anniversary, but, as per normal, there was no celebration. Aside from appearing in "Yogi's Ark Lark" (1972), Ruff & Reddy have largely been forgotten. The same goes for Lippy the Lion & Hardy Har-Har (1962), who at least were a part of Yogi's Gang during its run. So where am I going with this?

It has to do with Snooper & Blabber. The cat & mouse detectives are hired to locate the two long-missing comedy teams by a "wealthy Hollywood mogul" who wants to bring them back into the public eye after many years away and after they'd been forgotten. We'll throw Pixie & Dixie into the mix as well.

Wacky Races: There has been talk about another reincarnation of this 1968 CBS offering, co-produced by game show legends Heatter-Quigley (Hollywood Squares, High Rollers, et al). Only this time, it'll be done more as an analogue to the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. With Penelope Pitstop out of the picture (and off on her own), we'll replace the Compact Pussycat with not one but two new entries, represented by Motormouse & Autocat. We know Motormouse prefers to use a motorcycle, but a souped up hot rod of some kind might work out just fine. Autocat fits in perfectly with the rest of the racers, of course. The rest of the field will be made up of the sons & daughters of the original racers. Since the series was originally conceived to be part cartoon, part live-action game show, it shouldn't take much to get that off the ground this time. Also, one race per week, with the quiz segments mixed in, and the series expands to an hour.
I like watching the Winsome Witch "ippity pippity pow"...she was hilarious...that would be neat to see a reboot on this cartoon...I do like the ideas on Wonder Wheels too as I watched that one as well

I agree. I think we should make her younger, around 35-40. And with the idea of making her a stage magician with a wand and a powerful amount of magical abilities, she could cross right into the Hanna-Barbera superhero territory, allowing her and the Haunters to interact with people like the Hex Girls and the Drak Pack, as well as many of the earth-bound H-B heroes such as Birdman and Blue Falcon

This is movie-level territory for me. I'll get back to you with more information for you.

I'm right with you on this, not only with the race format, but the original quiz show format as well, especially when it deals with the history of automobile racing and U.S history. This leads me to an idea that I have: I think that all of the car-themed shows (Devlin, Penelope Pitstop, Wonder Wheels and Speed Buggy) should join the new updated Wacky Races as part of an interconnecting family of shows for several reasons:

(1) Even though Penelope Pitstop (and the Golden Claw) are off on their own, she is married to Ernie Devlin, and her family is the sponsor of many of the Wacky Races.

(2) Many of the descendants of Professor Pat Pending and Peter Perfect are now part of Penelope's family. This is due to the original's daughters and sons marrying right into the Pending (now Pender) and Perfect families, calling for some unbelievable races between many of the granddaughter's cousins in those families

(3)Dick Dastardly and Dread Baron, as well as Muttley and Mumbly, have relatives who are in the new Wacky Races as well, including Dastardly's grandson, Derek and his cousin Donna, the mysterious Dread Baroness, who is married to a descendant of Jonathan "Johnny" Pitstop, the brother of the original Penelope Pitstop that was written out of the original series. Muttley has a granddaughter who is a canine model, while Mumbly's grandson is a member of the U.S. Marshal Service who advises the funny-animal superhero group the Zoo Patrol.

(4) In addition to Autocat and Motormouse coming into the series, Speed Buggy and Wonder Wheels (with Julie Dooley in her Flamerider costume) will be particpants in the new Wacky Races, especially with Julie investigating the plots of some of the racers to cheat in the Wacky Races circuit for her newspaper, and Speed Buggy working on behalf of the Wacky Racing Circuit officials as a troubleshooter.

Kenny:)
I didn't mind watching the Perils of Penelope Pitstop or the Wacky races and they're both good cartoons and I think Wonder Wheels would do good in the Wacky Races

I did like Winsome Witch cartoon and it was cute and funny....maybe it would be cool to see her younger? Or even make up a story how she became a witch? that would be interesting to see...but love the cartoon

I haven't even seen this series rarely during its run (I was a baby), so I can't comment on this.

Hmmm, interesting. Reminds me of that episode of Justice League where Tom Turbine had a strength-augumenting belt. My idea for Sinbad IV is to bring him into the Arabian Knights team as a brand-new member. That way, Sinbad, Shazzan, and the Knights could all exist in one series, and the now modern-day versions of the Knights have a very powerful ship, the Mighty, that can take the Knights (And Sinbad) anywhere when the situation calls for them to leave modern-day Baghdad at a moment's notice! I also see Sinbad as the Aquaman archetype of the Knights, since Raseem is its Superman archetype.

A shapeshifting wolf? I like it! It'll be even better if it's a female wolf that enter the flock as a female lamb that find herself attracted to Lambsy, causing all sorts of problems for the hero.

Interesting. Mark and Debbie's two sons are actually named Matthew and Lucas, while Tinker's daughter would be named Talia.

Here's the kicker to this series: Butch and Merilee are married, and so is Henry and Steffy (now called Stephanie). They all have two sons and two daughters respectively. The new computer is called Athena-1, hence the female-sounding voice.

Speaking of the Impossibles, their mysterious manager, Big D, is long gone. But his daughter, who we will call Deborah (or Debbi for short), is the new Big D. She had already knew about her father's top-secret status, and had a hand in the creation of the second-generation Impossibles, since she married one of the original members (possibly Multi-Man) years after they began working for her father. And, the new band members are her five sons and daughters by Multi-Man, each with a different superpower.

This TV-movie surprisingly enough, also sets the stage for a new generation of Sundance Kids (The band members' own children) who will take over for their parents in new adventures (and set up a new battle of the bands, sort of, between the two next-gen groups), since Debbi (now Big Mama D) will be heading up the agency with Athena-1's help.

Kenny
I didn't mind the Impossibles as I watched it a few times....big D had a daughter? Ya that might work for her to take over the agency....I also watched Sinbad so he would fit in nicely with Shazzan and the Arabian Nights...Speed Buggy was hilarious! Who knew about Mark and Debbie? That would be cool if their kids and Tinker's daughter would help Speed Buggy in the races....

Hey Kenny....Ya I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of some shows like the Skatebirds show and the animated shows they had on...I do like Speed Buggy that was hilarious!

I've watching Grape Ape and Magilla Gorilla....or even the Hair Bear Bunch and they're all good cartoons...love seeing Grape Ape on the Laff a Lympics show...he was great on it....love to see some of these cartoons on DVD or Blu-ray or in a reboot...

Hey Kenny....ya I agree that would be interesting to see? Birdgirl? That would be neat....I did watch Devlin and thought it was a good cartoon....the Arabian Nights and Drak Pack was good too....I like the super hero cartoons that Hanna Barbera did....they would do well in a reboot thing
Judging by the human members of the Hanna-Barbera superhero universe, Birdman is not the only one who could team with the Quests. If there was a series, Drs. Jonathan and Jessica Quest could be teaming up with other people in the H-B universe, such as the Devlins, the Arabian Knights, the Drak Pack, and others.

Speaking of Birdman, could there be a chance that Ray Sr. also had a young daughter that he does not also know about, one that was adopted by another family upon her birth, and growing up, she idolized Birdman, not knowing that the hero is in fact her own father and giving rise to a new Birdgirl?

Hey
That's another good idea. With the advent of Cartoon Network Real, Laff-A-Lympics can be updated to the point that real kids can intervene in physical and mental competitions in between the cartoon segments. Another way to do this is keep the three-team format, but make it a team of Looney Tunes stars, Hanna-Barbera stars, and modern day Cartoon Network Studios stars, which would be better. Who wants to see XLR-8 race Speedy Gonzales? I sure do!

I see a schedule of CN Real programming from 7-11 consisting of this:

7-8pm: The All-New Laff-A-Lympics
8-9pm: The All-New Wacky Races
9-9:30: Destroy Build Destroy
9:30-10: Brain Rush
10-10:30: Survive This
10:30-11: The Othersiders

Speaking of Wacky Races, the show could also be part of an all-new Fast and Furious action block of car-themed shows on Saturdays:

12-1pm: The All-New Wacky Races
1-1:30: The Further Perils of Penelope Pitstop
1:30-2: Ernie Devlin: Stunt Master
2-2:30: The New Adventures of Wonder Wheels
2:30-3: Speed Buggy GP

The thing with this block is that all of the shows interact with each other, giving fans a chance to witness some interesting team-ups, in addition to their own individual adventures. But wait, there's more! Boomerang, if they had the spine, could air the original shows that inspired the new CN block on Sunday afternoons as well:

12pm: Wacky Races
12:30: The Perils of Penelope Pitstop
1:00pm: Devlin
1:30pm: Wonder Wheels
2:00pm: Speed Buggy
2:30pm: Laff-A-Lympics (as a bookend filler series)

Kenny:cool:
Hey Kenny I wouldn't mind seeing the new adventures of Wonder Wheels as I watched it as a kid and found it recently online and love watching it til this day....make up further adventures of Wonder Wheels...I saw one story on him on here but didn't like the outcome of it and thought it was a dark/tragic side of the story and the cartoon doesn't deserve that....I've watched it several times and enjoy it...I don't mind Wacky Races...I've got it on DVD and love it...Ernie Devlin was good on Devlin....wasn't sure if Willie on Wonder Wheels was a stunt driver? But like him too...Penelope Pitstop is good too....Speed Buggy is hilarious! Laff a Lympics...love watching the characters all compete....but I'd be in for these shows listed for a reboot or a DVD release...I'm with you on this

Here's a doozy for you from 1974:

Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch

When I took a look at this little-known series from 35 years ago on the old USA Cartoon Express in the 80's, I wanted to shoot myself! A cartoon about a beeping, hornblowing Volkswagen and talking bikes? I thought to myself, what were Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera smoking at the time?

So, in my infinite wisdom, I have to do a complete (and I mean complete) reboot makeover of that series, this time with humans riding high-tech custom motorcycles, and a complete overhaul of the concept of the series!

First of all, Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch will have to merge with two of the series in the new Penelope Pitstop/Wacky Races family: Devlin and Wonder Wheels, with Wheelie being a new sentient bike that is Wonder Wheels' younger brother and ridden by Julie Dooley's 18-year-old brother Jake, who is a brand-new character in the 2009 WW reboot!

Next, there's the Chopper Bunch! I see the Bunch as not Wheelie's adversaries, but Wheelie's fellow bikes piloted by Jake's friends who are extreme-sports fanatics working at Devlin Stuntworks (Jake works there also, thanks to Julie's connection to her best friends, Ernie and Penelope Devlin. They are:

Rhonda Rhee: Rhonda is a 17-year-old Korean-American girl who happens to be Jake's best friend and girlfriend. She is a smart, witty and fun-loving girl who sometimes teases Jake about comparing himself to his older sister Julie, who happens to be the mysterious Flamerider who's been helping Devlin and the Golden Claw on some of their cases. She wears a red leather jacket, helmet and spandex unitard with an "8" on the left side of the jacket, and rides a red-and-black rocket bike.

Charlie "Chopper" Chandler: Charlie is an 18-year-old champion motorcross rider who is also Jake and Julie's childhood friend. His father Christopher is a movie critic working for the same L.A. publication that Julie works for, so he sometimes uses his newfound studio connections to sometimes help Jake, Rhonda, Charlie and the bunch deal with some of their cases. But Charlie is a guy who is in love with three things: his chopper, his female fans, and himself! The last two often gets him into trouble, prompting either his friends, or Ernie Devlin, to get him out of it! Charlie wears a green and grey leather jumpsuit, gloves and helmet with a "10" encased inside of a rhombus in the center and rides a spring green/darker green and white Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Miranda "Rev" Revson: Miranda, sometimes named Randi, is a 17-year-old African-American girl whose father is a captain in the California Highway Patrol. She and Rhonda are longtime rivals, both on the motorcross circuit and romantically as they compete over Jake Dooley at times. She is also the team's mechanic and designer of some of the bikes that the Chopper Bunch ride, since she was taught by her motorcycle cop father. Randi usually has blue and white hair, as opposed to Rhonda's red and black hair, and is shy, which leads to Jake trying to get her out of her emotional shell at times. She also wears a navy blue and white leather jacket, white helmet, gloves and boots and royal blue unitard with a "5" inside of a gold shield design on the left of the jacket and rides a blue-and-white rocket bike.

Harold "Hi-Riser" Hightower: Harold, sometimes called Harry, is the muscle of the group. But, he is no dummy! At 6'7", 260 pounds, the 16-year-old is a boy of Native American descent who is also a math wiz. But Harold is also a caring soul who enjoys being around his friends, and helping them out when they're in a jam. He wears a brown leather and suede jumpsuit with dark brown boots and gloves, and rides a black and brown woodgrain-trimmed four-wheeled all terrain vehicle.

Samuel "Scrambles" Scarpelli: Sam is a 16-year-old Italian-American teen who is from a large family who owns a restaurant that Ernie and Penelope, and even Julie and Buddy, frequent. Sam loves three things: food, friends and fighting, and at an even five feet tall, this martial artist and junior chef is usually teamed with his best friend and partner in mischief, Hi-Riser, which makes them an effective team that helps the Chopper Bunch fight off the dangerous villains they would face! Sam wears a white leather jacket, gloves and boots with a red and green two-toned jumpsuit with the number "6" inside a large checkerboard circle in the center of the suit, and rides a white, red and green minibike.

Look for this group of stunt junkies and part-time adventurers to help out the Devlins (including the Golden Claw) and Wonder Wheels in their series from time to time. Also, look for this 2009 Chopper Bunch to help out the members of Team Speed Buggy and the new Valkyrie Squadron in their series as well!

Kenny:cool:
I like your idea about the reboot of Wonder Wheels in 2009...it definitely deserves a reboot for sure...Jake would be Dooley's younger brother and another rider? That would be interesting to see...I think it's a good idea...I'd follow it....did like Wheelie and the the Chopper Bunch....love the bikes on it..."I told ya I told ya"...good ideas here

who knew that Julie is related to Ernie and Penelope? Never knew that but watched Penelope in the Wacky Races and the Perils of Penelope Pitstop so makes sense? This is a good concept and worth looking into for the further adventures of Wonder Wheels...Wheelie would make a good addition to that

I did. Smooth move on the Wonder Twins' expanded connections to Wendy and Marvin (and Superman and Batman), including Marvin and Jayna's marriage at the end!

I think I'll call this spinoff series "The Wonder Kids." I'm referring to Marvin and Jayna's twin son and daughter, Zack and Jenna, and their superpowered misadventures with their mixed family.

Kenny ;)
I didn't really get Marvin and Wendy as I didn't see any "super powers" they had but they did try to help out the Super Friends....but I didn't mind the Wonder Twins though....like the title to this...interesting...

@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
