This came out completely out of left field but seems like the new netflix legend quest animated series is here.

The netflix description reads

When a evil force threatens his village, a gifted teen who can talk to ghosts puts his skills to good use, one legend at a time

I just watched the first episode, and it's actually pretty good so far; though what boggles me is that this show's dialogue was actually recorded and animated in english first, as apposed to being dubbed from latin in translation.

Although if it was dubbed into english, that I gotta say that's pretty dang good dubbing.

The cast is actually pretty good, though I still would have wanted to hear big named voice actors like Eric Bauza, Jessica DiCicco and Carlos Alazraqui provide the english dialogue.

(EDIT: I just found out nobody in Latin America actually speaks Latin)

I think my only gripe so far is the animation. I don't have a problem with Flash animation, but after having seen the concept art, the background work, and especially the intro I would really have loved to see this in full hand-drawn animation, similar to the animation tests for Hullabaloo or the animated segments in Middle Schoo: Worst Years of My Life.

I'll try and continue watching the rest of the series and give my opinion from then on.

This show is like a mix of Scooby Doo and El Tigre, which I view as a plus. Then again, with Jim Krieg and Ernie Altbacker at the helm, it's nothing short of amazing.

Wow, didn't expect the change in art direction. I like it. Leo's new outfit is cool.

I finally decided to watch this series and I loved it. The show is really well done. I especially like the Teodora character.

The date is unknown, but we're getting season 2.

Is season 2 really gonna look like that? Eww. Why would they change the animation like that? It looked great the way it was.

Eh...maybe they thought season 1 was stiff-looking?

Anyway, we have a shot of Teodora and Don Andres (sort of):

Also, Alebrije has a belt with pouches. Interesting detail...

I'm glad Teodora looks almost the same, as well as Don Andres and Alebrije. But Leo looks like a completely different character.

Season 2 comes out October 5.

Hopefully we'll get a trailer before that so we can see how the new animation goes.

Wow, wasn't expecting one so soon. The story seems interesting, but I still hate the new animation. I wish we were given a reason for the change, because the original was so much better. I'm still gonna watch this though.

Mark Hoffmeier is joining season 2 as co-producer and co-story editor.

Even if the writing ultimately turns out good (maybe even better than S1, if possible!)... I know a lot of people are gonna be turned off by this show due to the art-style change. In truth, It's sadly just that easy to turn people off of something if it don't exactly got the looks down. Welcome to the Wayne (for a very obvious example of a show I otherwise did enjoy and am still sad is gone to this day.) and Home: Adventures With Tip & Oh (for something I've recently gotten into and actually like, unlike most of the net.) are big ol' examples of this, unfortunately.

Even if it comes down to the writing, action scenes, and character development for me, I expect this show to not be well recieved, simply due to how it looks now. And it stinks that Western Animation nowadays (mostly thanks to "CalArts" being used as a cheap insult for a major recent example!) in general is just that easy to dismiss like that, despite anime not always being top dog at looking good, either. Double standards like such are the worst.

Oh yeah, I'm very familiar with people turning down shows due to design alone. While I'm not a fan of Leo's new design either, I'm still giving it a try. It kind of reminds me of the art style switch between seasons in American Dragon: Jake Long.

While I haven't seen the new episodes yet since I don't have Netflix, I have looked at some reviews and it seems like it's not just the animation style that has been changed. Apparently season 2 is more of a soft reboot than a continuation since some backstories has been changed as well. Mostly I've heard with Marcella, she's no longer Leo's love-interest(Teodora has taken that place), she's now Leo's rival.
This is actually even more off-putting for me from the series since I was hoping for a continuation of season 1's finale where Leo had a letter delivered to Teodora in the future asking for help and now Teodora would need to find a way back despite no longer being in a coma.
It feels like the show was not only given a new animation team, but new writers who never bothered looking at the episodes from season 1. No wonder there was a change in the title.

The things is, most of the writing crew is pretty much the same from season one. They outright reference several characters and events from season one (Marcella's background, Mr. Madera and Fenrir, etc.), but they change the context and pretend they're just learning about them.

It's a bizarre and honestly off-putting change, but it's not new. The beginning of the first season pretty much assumes you watched at least the first movie, even though there are differences between the movies and the show as well.

Haven’t seen it yet, but having "season 2" be another soft reboot that changes things up raises more than a few concerns.

But then it hit me: what if this is some weird build-up to go all Terminator: Genisys?

Legend Quest involved traveling through time and it’s already proving to have hiccups in its continuity. What if the movies, season 1, and season 2 are all alternate timelines like in Genisys and they'll join together somehow?

Say what you will about Genisys, but I thought it was onto something by saying everything after T2 were possible alternate scenarios.

(I should probably add that I’m only being half-serious about this. I’m willing to admit that I might be overthinking this. Maybe.)

This all sounds like a bad move and something tells me these reviews aren't all that positive, either, especially if how it looks is only one issue here.

I hope I'm proven wrong and that this is STILL worth giving a proper watch. I want to, regardless.
