"Justice League: War" Animated Feature Pre-Release Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Seeing the featurette, I didn't realize that they mentioned Shazam appearing and that he has a friendship with Cyborg.

Wait... What? I thought that news was for the comics following Trinity War and Forever Evil? Is it actually for JL: War?

In the video for the movie, there's a scene where he mentions that johns wanted the dynamics between certain characters. He noted Batman & GL, Superman & Wonder Woman, and then Cyborg & Shazam. There's then a very brief animatic of Shazam asking Wonder Woman if she and Superman are dating.

Yeah it's a little odd to put Shazam in so soon.

Still, Shazam in this movie just means it'll be that much more fun! And it makes sense, they're just trying to introduce him here as he will be a new member of the League soon. Although how they'll be able to juggle all these character, I don't know.

No Aquaman? Wonder the reasoning? Maybe further down the line they'll loosely adapt "Throne of Atlantis" and use that a vehicle to introduce Aquaman to the animated post Flashpoint universe? Heck' what a great idea, move over James' I'll produce. :-D

You and someone else on the forum keep saying that, but you realize that throne of atlantis isn't even the nxt story in the comic and The Villains Journey is next right?

Yeah' know "The Villain's Journey" is next in line, but I sincerely doubt that they're gonna adapt the whole series in a row! "The Throne of Atlantis" lends itself to the animated movie line as it's an "event."

I'm going to imagine the same reasons he was left out of the previous Justice League movies (Doom and Crisis on Two Earths) as well.

The original story ends with a discussion about the new wave of superheroes rising up in the wake of the Justice League's debut. Maybe we could get a montage showing Aquaman and some of the other New 52 heroes like the new Atom, Element Woman, Hawkman, and the other Leaguers.

Aquaman was in Crisis on Two Earths. And he was awesome.

Just watched the first look preview of this and realized

that Aquaman has been replaced with Shazam as a founding member. But that only leads me to suspect they are saving Aquaman's introduction for a follow-up movie, which will most likely be based on the Throne of Atlantis storyline.

Or they figured Captain Marvel was more popular and a more interesting addition than Aquaman. Much as I like Aquaman I hope all the JL movies won't just be Nu52 movies.

Is Captain-Shazam-Marvel truly more popular than Aquaman? I haven't checked the sales recently but WB's not exactly trying all that hard to make a movie for the Big Red Cheese, any more than they're trying to make a film for Aquaman or any other character who doesn't have a bat or an S on their shirts, let alone animated series. As for being a more interesting addition to the team, well, Captain-Shazam-Marvel's power set isn't all that radically different from that of Superman and/or Wonder Woman, so I guess it depends on how much mileage you can get out of a kid/tween/teen running around in an adult super-body contrasting to actual adults.

Of all the changes that could - and perhaps should - be made this one seems rather pointless, but perhaps we'll be able to make a drinking game out of how many times some character makes a joke about Cap looking like Superman in a red suit.

WF reported that Aquaman will still be a featured character, though, right?

In a universe where Super Heroes are strange and new, Batman has discovered a dark evil that requires him to unite the World Greatest Heroes! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg unite for the first time to form the Justice League!

Or was that just a description of the source material? Oh well.

Well Aqauman is still a joke to a lot of people. So given that and Captain Marvel's had his own TV show as well as a lot of animated appearances, no one may be trying to make a movie out of him but I'd still say he was more popular than Aquaman.

Secondly, Captain Marvel/Shazam is not more popular than Aquaman. Maybe back in the 40's and 50's he was, but now, I'd say they are about even in the popularity department.

My one concern for introducing Shazam so early in this new movie line (and make no mistake, I'm pretty sure we'll be following up this movie with more New 52 era stories) is that if this is the new introduction and origin of the Justice League, it kind of diminishes Superman's intro here by having someone similar and almost equally as powerful as Shazam introduced within the same movie. I think they should have held out on giving us Shazam, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter and instead just stuck to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash (and I guess Cyborg, too) for this movie -- but I'm sure some fans are impatient and tired of having those same characters, so they need to throw in one more to change it up (then again, I thought that's why we have Cyborg now).

Eh, just not a fan of the name Shazam. I'd prefer Captain Marvel or Captain Thunder. How does he even introduce himself now? Anyone remember when Captain Marvel Jr had that problem?

They explained that pretty easily. He has to say Shazam with the mental intent to transform. He doesn't transform back into a human just by saying "My name is Shazam!"

First of all, guys, he's not Captain Marvel anymore -- He's Shazam!

He'll always be Captain Marvel to me. Or at least DC's Captain Marvel, Marvel's Captain Marvel is pretty awesome, mainly because of Carol Danvers. I will say Shazam does make things less confusing, though.

Aquaman is more well known, I still wouldn't say he's well liked. By the general public at least.
