I thought it was great, too. I'm barely familiar with Captain Marvel but I thought he was great in Clash.
But being a big fan as you are, maybe you can answer some nagging questions that I have about Marvel:
What's up with this whole deal of him being a kid in an adult's body? I read an earlier poster saying the old Marvel actually changed into another person -- I guess like Captain Marvel of Marvel Comics, the way he switched around with Rick Jones. But now, apparently, Marvel the adult is really Billy the kid (no relation to the outlaw) on the inside. Did his origin explain any of this weirdness or are we just supposed to accept it as the way things are?
Why does Marvel ever bother changing back into Billy? I could never figure this out on He-Man, either. I could sort of understand it if Marvel and Billy were two different guys but it doesn't make much sense if they are one and the same. The only possible time I could see him changing into Billy would be to spy (like he did at the Lexor City presentation). Or perhaps, if Marvel ever needed to squeeze into a small opening.
Has Billy ever been mistakenly given detention for "smoking" in the boy's room? I have to admit, his costume change sequence was very cool looking.
I've been reading alot of forums that are talking about the "Clash" & how Supes beat the crap out of CM & how CM is a wuss or worse on account of the beating he took from Supes. And alot of you are complaining that Supes is now a jerk & more brutal than he was in STAS. The fact is Superman has always held back from unleashing his full array of powers in just about all his battles in STAS/JL/JLU for fear of crippling or killing his opponent. He probably could've ended many fights in seconds if he had gone all out like he finally did in "Clash" but chose not to. In "Twilight", he had Darkseid down & was about to deliver the killing blow if not for Bats interferance. He went all out on Doomsday in "Doomsday sanction" & defeated him by not worrying about the consequences of Doomsday living or dying. Captain Marvel is powerful & the world's mightiest mortal, but Supes has the experience of fighting people like Darkseid, Doomsday, Mongul, Lobo, Kalabak, Mala & Jaxar, all those I mentioned are as powerful if not stronger than CM. CM has maybe Black Adam to compare to all those that Supes has fought. Plus Supes was relentless in his assault on Marvel because he was also trying to end the fight before the the countdown on the timer expired. Marvel has probably never fought someone with Supes experience/powers & was put more in a defensive frame of mind while Supes was on the offensive. After the events of "Legacy", Superman probaly decided if someone is willing to take him on, from now on the kid gloves are gonna come off & he's gonna show them the error of their ways. He's not a jerk. He's just had enough of being a boyscout & getting manipulated by his enemies & unappreciated by a planet that he's willing to die for & has saved countless times. Superman is pretty much a demi-God & all those in the DCAU who attack him & those he cares for are gonna be in for a painful lesson when the man of steel lays down the smackdown on them!

1. There is a difference between pre-crisis Captain Marvel and post-crisis Captain Marvel. When Marvel was first created in the Golden Age of comics, he would switch from Billy Batson into Captain Marvel, and they were two different people. Billy didn't retain his own personality, unlike what we saw in the DCAU episode. Post-crisis (and even after the Zero Hour DC crossover, because Billy has had two different origins in the past two decades) he just turns into an adult version of himself with powers, but is still very childlike. In most comics with Marvel, other characters comment on how odd he is, because he talks like a kid instead of an adult. lately, he has been much better at hiding that. This could be because in present comics he is 16 years old, not an elementary schooler like he is in this episode.
2. He has to change back into Billy. Remaining Captain Marvel would be a misuse of his powers. Billy can have his powers revoked from the Wizard (happened in Power of Shazam relatively early in it's run) and while I doubt he would revoke them for being Captain Marvel too much, it is a real threat. Also, Billy likes being himself. I mean, Captain Marvel is not who he really is, it's just another persona that he takes on to help people. He wants to live his own life, much like Superman wants to be Clark Kent in his own life and not just Superman all the time. Also, he uses the switch back and forth for various reasons, like hiding himself from a threat, getting into small places, spying, etc, etc. It's just another facet of what he can do.
3. People in Fawcett do comment on their being strange lightning strikes without any clouds, but I think that Billy usually keeps everything pretty quite. I do think he has raised some suspicions though. I would have to reread the Power of Shazam comics to find exact situations.

great points, superman risks his life for a planet that is not his own, and has done loads of times. so did shayera and they treat her like dirt (most people do anywayz.) they both should be treated better b/c they are protecting a planet thet is not theirs.
and about superman keeping all that anger in, i think it might come out near the finale. we'll just see...
You know, I didn't really get the sense that Bats was absolving Sups of being an asshat at the end there. More like he was adding to the scolding. Not only were you an asshat, but you let them manipulate you into being an asshat.
What's different about "weapons-grade" Kryptonite versus regular Kryptonite? It's only a weapon against Superman and Supergirl, and you don't need to refine it to get that.

Kryptonite is irradiated...well...ANYTHING from Planet Krypton. However, it seems that some is actually the equivalent of Uranium and can be made into nuclear weapons that will not only kill human beings and blow up things but also be nuclear weapons that will affect superman.

That is a GREAT point! Wow! Though Batman was out of character that was the ONLY thing we couldn't explain away. Man, you are smart. If they decide to play it that way I will be very happy.

His powers basically allow him to become his "ideal" self, in Billy's case he choose this adult form as it probably represents his Dad. Even pre-crisis I have always wished it this way.
Being able to become a bigger more powerful person is a dream come true for all kids. But if you were actually just changing places with someone else then that is not much fun, it is not you flying or doing all those deeds. The other Marvel characters chose different type bodies as their "ideal" when they change. Freddy freeman who becomes Captain Marvel Jr literally is the same in both incarnations becuase he was a jock but got crippled in one leg and hence thinks he is perfect and stays the same except for fixing his lame legand changing his uniform.
Mary Marvel goes from a small girl to a mature teenager in form.

He has to go to school, relate to his old friends and also do other kid stuff that would be difficult for him if he looked like a 30 year old! There is actually an examination of what could happen if a Marvel decided never to change back. This was explored in the Miracleman books, Miracleman is a take off of the Marvel family done by an english dude and one of the Miracle Family did not change back and he went evil due to the corruption of his having all that power that long.

Sorry, but I don't buy it. It's all in the tone. Kevin Conroy's delivery of the line seemed distinctly comforting to me. "Don't worry about it - you were suckered."

I saw the episode again and I have to say Batman's tone could be interpreted either way. There WAS some comfort in it but there was a distinct "You should have known better" tone as well.
Just because they use metahumans does not mean they are not anti-metahuman. They use metahumans because it is the logical and best way to deal with the Justice League. The difference is that the metahumans are under their control. They've hired all sorts of folk with dubious reputations, not just meta-humans. There isn't anything they will not do. It is the results that matter to them.
What did you mean by the spoiler, btw?
"Superman in TAS vs Superman of JL"
He never used to be, back when he still had his own series.
Sarcasm works if you add smileys. Otherwise, it simply deadpan serious commentary.
"Batman and Superman vs. the bankrobbers/world conquerors"
Seriously, I hate when Batman is away from the city in non-urgent matters. It happens a lot in this series, which bugs.
I thought it rather amusing. It makes sense for Batman and Superman to do all their talking while on a mission. I don't see them going out for a beer or playing poker. The fact that even Batman likes the kid is a testament to how well Captain Marvel is fitting in with the Justice League. Batman leaving Gotham to partake in a minor fistfight is a minor technicality that had to be sacrificed for the greater good of the plot. haha.
"Superman tricked by Luthor"
The problem with this is that it depends on Superman acting completely out of character. Were Superman acting in character, there would be no chance in hell of the plan working, and Lex would know this. The plan depended on two improbabilities which then, improbably, occured--not the best of plans.
I respectably disagree. I think it was in character for Superman. He's not perfect. He is still just a man (you know what I mean.) Luthor does happen to be his arch-nemesis afterall. Just like Superman knows Luthor, Luthor also knows Superman and which of his buttons to press. He played Superman like a fiddle.
I'll give you an example of something recent in the news to bring this into context. Take for example, the recent news scandals concerning Bush's military records and the Koran being flushed down the toilet. Both Dan Rather and the Newsjournal were relatively anti-bush. Presented with a story from fishy, single anonymous sources; they were more than ready to believe the stories without taking the time to think things through and doing a thorough investigation.
The same holds true for Superman. He really believed Luthor was up to no good. It wouldn't take much for Superman to believe that Luthor had something sinister cooking behind Lexor City. Also, let us not forget that Superman had a view of the timer on the device. He's a man of action and given the limited time available, he did what he felt was right at the time.
"captain marvel greeting the JLU members"
I know. It still sounded unatural and needlessly expositiony, and very unsubtle.
After re-watching this episode I still can't decide are Cadmus Government People supposed to be bad guys or good guys? Am I the only one who is surprised by Luthor's innocent and honest behavior? He even makes Captain Marvel (not to mention other members of the Justice League) believe in his story! He is a smooth talker.
What I like about this episode is that in all of his dewy-eyed ,bushy tailed naivety, Captain Marvel was WRONG! The League was right not to trust Luthor, despite how seductive the idea of him changing for the better is. He played them for fools. The only thing that's changed is his approach, but he's as greasy as ever. The League was also right to reprimand Captain Marvel for making public statements like he did. It really does reflect on all of them and Luthor used the statement to his benefit the same night! I also don't blame Superman for being ticked off that Captain Marvel waltzes into the Watchtower and starts telling people how to handle things. With his "I told you so's". He was asking to get clocked lol. Furthermore, How can people still say Waller's moral standing is ambiguous? Come on. She played part in this set up. She is actively pushing for a war. She was right there with Luthor toasting to how bad they made the JLU look. Every single decision she makes is fueled by narcissism.
Fanboy comment- for some reason it was really cool to see Supes watching the news haha. Like when The Question was singing that pop song.

Lex's "Innocent & honest behavior" made me suspious & creepied out. It just gave me the chills. >.< It made me wanna puke greatly. (Yes that's the true, I felt like puking.) I'll do a review myself like tomorrow after work on my views of the episode.
I loved that scene where Lex was pretending to get all choked up. It was hillarious! I really liked this episode, hadn't seen it before last night. It was great having Dana Delaney back as Lois, and Captain Marvel was a nice dose of lightness over the proceedings.

I don't remember that scene. Maybe because I didn't watch the rerun of the episode. But once Lex did that in the park, he knew that Suits would react the way he did. But at teh ending, you knew that was coming. o_o;
Ya well done Captain Marvel shouldn't be corny. Billy is a smart kid not a dork. (His drawing was great very C. C. Beck looking).
I do think that Superman seemed to knock Marvel into more things that Marvel knocked Supes into. Maybe Marvel was more careful about not damaging the buildings.
The most disappointing thing of all though was that Capt. Marvel quit the Justice League. Hope he returns (and gets a JLU figure).
The Voyo-exclusive Romanian dub of Garfield and Friends goes on with the second season now being relased. I was afraid they will forget about the show after only one season.
As someone who's Portuguese, it just bugs me again that we lost. I wanted Portugal to win this time because this is Ronaldo's last, but no, we think Ronaldo has devolved significantly, and we lost against Spain.
