"Invincible" Animated Series Talkback (Spoilers)

I just finished all 8 episodes of Season 1.

Simply breathtaking.

Especially the last 3 epsiodes. Some of the best animated TV I've seen in the past 20 years. No exaggeration.

Omni-Man's reveal about who he really is and the history of his race brought up the hair on the back of my neck!

No, it was phenomenal. So well written and JK Simmons does a spectacular job voice acting for Omni-Man.

One question for you guys: did Omni-Man head back to Viltrumite, or was actually fleeing Viltrumite, knowing there was probably a bounty on his head after his failure on Earth?

That's what's great about this show. Even if you know what happens, you will never be able to guess how it happens.

I got an Amazon Prime free trail and checked out the show. It's a very good show and one of the closest adaptations of a comic I've seen when it comes to a multi season TV show. The mystery angle of why

Onmi Man killed the Guardians of the Globe was elaborated more than in the comics and a few characters got minor changes (Amber's race change, William's LGBT status being explicit rather than implied), but otherwise the show seemed to follow most of the same plot beats, just in a somewhat rearranged order. Season 1 ended where issue 13 ended, and although a few events from post issue 13 happened in season 1, we have a long way to go.

Surprised no one is talking about a few notable features of this series, such as the 45 minute, as opposed to 22 minute runtime that is standard for American animation. It's been a while since we've had a 45 minute animated program, at least since the turn of the century and not counting package series like the Batman/Superman Adventures. This series seemed like a much bigger hit than even DC's Young Justice Outsiders and beating DC is something.

It’s summer break for Mark and his friends, but supervillains don't take a vacation. Mark is forced to face the consequences of Omni-Man's double life.

Mark starts his college career, Debbie struggles with personal trauma, and Allen the Alien returns home to find a new threat facing the Coalition of Planets.

Episode 4 "It's Been A While" - November 23, 2023

Mark answers the call to save an alien species, but the mission has unexpected personal consequences.

Absolutely and Angstrom Levy is shaping up on being an interesting villain in this season.

11/10: Saw the second episode and it was great to see Tatiana Maslany voicing Aquarus' widow Aquaria.

11/17: Saw the third episode and man, that was a great halfway plot switch with the first half focusing on Allen and the second half focusing on Mark.

11/24: Saw the fourth episode and that was a good episode. Cannot wait for the second half of this season.

Having seen yesterday's episode, that was indeed a heartbreaking moment in the end with Mark and Amber deciding to break up after that incident with Anissa as well as the latter realising her mistakes from last season.

Having seen the season two finale earlier today, Angstrom really crossed the line when he broke Debbie's arm after he refused to admit that Mark isn't the same Invincible who murdered many people in his universe along with that it was great to see Josh Keaton voicing a Spider-Man pastiche in this episode.

With that, I can't wait for the third season.

"As of today the second season of Invincible is complete, so if that’s what you’ve been waiting for, you can load up Amazon Prime and binge the whole thing. After that, come back here for some analysis on the surprises worked into the season finale. This is your warning that there are spoilers ahead.

The entire first half of Season 2, Episode 8 was taken up by one long battle between Mark Grayson and the bulbous-headed supervillain Angstrom Levy. It was pretty much a one-sided fight for the majority of that time, with Invincible getting tossed around like a rag doll because he didn’t want to unleash his full strength against Levy, fearing he’d kill the guy. Levy’s superpower involved opening portals to other dimensions, which is where Invincible ended up spending a lot of time.

In two of these dimensions he meets Spider-Man and Batman. Or rather, “Agent Spider” and an unnamed person who is dressed like a bat. Robert Kirkman, creator of Invincible and some other comic about zombies, told IGN the former is a direct reference to an actual comic book, Marvel Team-Up #14, where Invincible guest-starred and met Spider-Man. Fitting a scene from that event into the animated series, without the clearance to put Spidey in it, meant getting creative."
