How much Nickelodeon aired each show from 2000 onward?

It's Pony! It was pretty good! SpongeBob was still mostly decent!

2021 continued on the autopilot era started in the last couple of years.

Programming blocks changed a bit this year. Nicktoons would move premieres to Friday nights again (with The Barbarian and the Troll also airing with them, likely due to being a puppet show and Tooned In airing there too due to its focus on Nicktoon trivia). Live action originals (outside of The Barbarian and the Troll and Tooned In) would still be on Saturday nights, though fall would see them also expand to Thursday nights and NFL Slimetime on Wednesdays.

For Nicktoons in production, SpongeBob forever remains on autopilot spam. This time though, the show would expand into two spin offs. Kamp Koral premiered on streaming first but still had second run premieres this year, but didn’t air a ton with only 7 episodes airing on the main channel this year, even when they had 6 more episodes on Paramount Plus by then). The Patrick Star Show would premiere on TV and was off to a promising start, despite only having 11 episodes premiere this year. The Loud House is still doing great as the number 2 Nicktoon, even getting a live action TV movie (that isn’t counted in the airing totals). Its spin off The Casagrandes on the other hand started to get less airtime, especially by June onward when they hardly aired the show anymore outside of premieres or holiday events. Middlepost Post premiered, but didn’t air a ton compared to SpongeBob and Loud House. For the 90s nostalgia this year, a reboot of Rugrats premiered this year, though on streaming first, but still aired the first episode and the holiday episodes this year. Nickelodeon would continue this IP driven trend with Star Trek Prodigy premiering on streaming first with only rare airings this year. It’s Pony would be canned this year and only aired once in February before leaving forever.

For live action originals, they're still losing relevance. Danger Force is the only one to get more than 100 half hours of airings and even then, reruns were decreasing by summer until getting occasional reruns in fall and December. The rest of the shows from the previous year still had the recurring issue of hardly rerunning outside premieres and Saturday nights. This also applied with the new slate with The Barbarian and the Troll and Drama Club being short lived and forgotten after a few months. Tooned In and That Girl Lay Lay would be the only 2021 premieres to survive past this year. Shows that wrapped up and left for good were The Astronauts and Unfiltered. iCarly 2007 came back on February until July in varied timeslots to help tie in with the 2021 revival on Paramount Plus. Henry Danger also returned in February and July. This year marked the final time both shows aired on the main channel and possibly the last time they'll air reruns of their pre-2019 live action originals.

On Nick Jr's side, PAW Patrol remains dominant, with Blaze and Peppa Pig as the only others to get in triple digit airings aside from Blue's Clues and You.

For acquired shows, ALVINN only came back for one week in February and one more again in December for bomb week premieres. The Smurfs 2021 reboot premiered this year, and seemed to have a decent start for an acquisition with only 9 half hours at this point. Power Rangers still continued premiering on Saturday mornings at 8 AM and semi-regular reruns on Sundays at 8 AM, though it would leave after nearly a decade and move to Netflix the following year.

Paramount Plus would be launched this year, as an equivalent to how Cartoon Network had Max and Disney had Disney Plus. Much like Cartoon Network with Max, Nickelodeon would premiere shows on Paramount Plus first in an attempt to catch up with the times in streaming with spin offs/revivals/reboots of older IPs premiering on the streaming service first with Kamp Koral, Rugrats 2021, Star Trek Prodigy, and iCarly 2021.

Another change came in September when the movies really started to get played more on primetime, likely due to John Flannery becoming the new schedule guy in the previous year.

The reliance on SpongeBob, PAW Patrol, and Loud House continued, now with Paramount Plus starting to premiere shows first.

A little funny that It's Pony only got a single airing.

The Nicktoons dominance over the live-action originals pendulum has fully switched back to how it was in the early/mid 2000s, after the live-action originals began dominating the Nicktoons in the late 2000s to mid-2010s (even though there's less shows overall in both departments compared to the other 2 pendulum swings).

The acquired shows roster is humorously small, considering Power Rangers eventually left and ALVINNN!!! only aired for 2 weeks.

As usual, 2021 was rather weak with only a few great elements (like The Patrick Star Show, or the potential final reruns of any pre-2019 show).

2022 continues the autopilot era of the channel.

For blocks, the Nicktoons were on Friday nights again and the live action originals were on Thursday nights.

For the Nicktoons still in production, things remain the same with SpongeBob as the dominant one. Surprisingly, it was still a decrease from prior years due to the increased emphasis in airing movies this year. The Loud House is still a favorite, though the favorite status is starting to cool off, with the show dipping below 1000 half hours this year. The Patrick Star Show does okay due to its ties to the sponge, but didn’t air that often as the top 3 due to only having 13 half hours of episodes by the end of the year and taking a long hiatus with only one episode airing after April before the year ended. Transformers EarthSpark debuted its premiere two-parter this year. Star Trek Prodigy continued to have second run network premieres until they stopped after ten episodes, never to come back. Rugrats 2021 and Kamp Koral continued to do their second run premieres and were joined by Big Nate, but it was able to stick there this time unlike Star Trek Prodigy and despite hardly rerunning otherwise. The Casagrandes and Middlemost Post both wrapped up this year and didn’t rerun after they ended, with the latter never coming back to rerun. Monster High premiered, this time on Nick first but didn’t air too much due to not having much to air at the time.

Live action originals continue to fall out of favor, none of them reaching 100 airings and barely rerun at all. Side Hustle wrapped up this year. Warped premiered but ended as quickly as it came this year. Nickelodeon would continue to indulge in nostalgia, this time going into the early 2000s with The Fairly OddParents getting a sequel series in live action with Fairly Odder. While it premiered on Paramount Plus first in its entirety, it started making network premieres. While Loud House was starting to cool off in airtime, Nick still saw enough success to give it a live action series in The Really Loud House. Are You Afraid of the Dark 2019 also wrapped up this year.

Nick Jr is still PAW Patrol dominated.

For acquired shows, things continue to thin out. The Smurfs did okay, with some weekday slot reruns in May-July during afternoons and occasional Sunday morning reruns. ALVINNN would reach its end on Nickelodeon here, with most of the fifth season burned off in June. While there were occasional Sunday morning reruns, the show would reach its end, with the last three episodes burned off on Nicktoons the following year.

On the Paramount Plus side of things, the first ten half hours of Transformers EarthSpark were released there first. Star Trek Prodigy also finished the entire first season there. Rugrats 2021, Big Nate, and Kamp Koral’s first seasons also finished releasing there first.

2022 continued to have an autopilot feel. However, there was a surprise where SpongeBob wasn’t the most aired show on Nick (not counting the Nick at Nite airings) for the first time since 2004. Any victory from that though is pretty hollow with how it was because now they were starting to air more third party movies more frequently that were eating up the non-Nick Jr slots now.

And now here's the 2023 breakdown on how often each show aired. Half hours are the measurement for this and 0.5 being a 11-minute segment.

  5. The Loud House
2023 continues the autopilot age. However, they would rebrand this year to The Splat Zone, complete with a new logo bringing back the splat but still keeping the font of the 2009 logo.

For Nicktoons, SpongeBob still dominates and regains the number 1 grip. The Loud House was starting to cool down even more and get scaled back in airing, with regular reruns disappearing for a month starting in June. It came back for two weeks in July to tie in with new episodes before being booted off the schedule again. This repeated with reruns coming back in September and then being gone again in December, showing the show was starting to lose steam and favor with Nickelodeon. The Patrick Star Show on the other hand got more airings due to having more episodes in the can now, finally being another Nicktoon to get over 200 airings for the first time this decade and replacing Loud House as the number 2 Nicktoon (meaning two shows from the SpongeBob franchise were now top 2 Nicktoons). Monster High aired very little to no reruns and mostly aired when premiering the new episodes. Rugrats 2021 and Big Nate finished their season 1 network premieres this year, but both of them would leave after this year and never come back. Rugrats 2021 aired no reruns, but Big Nate did briefly air reruns on weekday evenings in spring before being gone later. Kamp Koral also finished the season 1 network premieres and briefly aired reruns in summer before being removed, but it wasn’t gone from the network forever. This marked the first year since 2006 where no new Nicktoon premiered.

Surprisingly, one Nicktoon that ended reran this year. The Casagrandes returned for a one day rerun in September 26 for Halloween season before disappearing for good.

Live action originals by now are getting pretty dry. The only one to premiere this year was Eric & Aaron, which was canned within the same year with no fanfare. Fairly Odder also finished their Nick premieres (after already being finished in streaming for a year) before leaving for good. Strangely aside from the one new live action original premiere, no show ended this year.

Nick Jr is still dominated by Paw Patrol, though at least Rubble & Crew is doing well for a post-2020 Nick Jr show.

Acquired programming is just The Smurfs 2021, which did air some reruns, but still got overshadowed by the sponge and movies.

Even with the new rebrand, 2023 is still not really showing any sign of improvement and getting drier.

And now here's the 2024 breakdown on how often each show aired. Half hours are the measurement for this and 0.5 being a 11-minute segment.

2024 is still on autopilot with movies dominating more. However, the biggest shakeup happened at the end of the year when Nickelodeon lost the 8 PM hour yet again and this time, it seems to be permanent after being on and off for decades.

Live action originals premiere on Wednesday nights while Nicktoons primarily use the bomb format for premieres.

For Nicktoons, we all know SpongeBob’s iron grip, the movie spam being the only reason it went below 3000 half hours. The Loud House continued to recede in presence, with reruns gone in February unless they needed to hype up a premiere bomb week with the show gone completely when on hiatus (especially from June to October). The Patrick Star Show also shrank a bit compared to before but still remains doing well and still number 2 Nicktoon. Kamp Koral finished all of season 1 having new to Nick premieres but surprisingly had little reruns, despite the franchise it’s attached to. The second and final season got released on Paramount Plus this year, but didn’t air on TV yet. Monster High would get canned this year, with the second season burned off on bomb weeks at 2 PM (when kids were in school) in March and October with no fanfare before leaving for good. Rock Paper Scissors premiered and did surprisingly well despite reruns sometimes being preempted for more third party movies, being the third post-2014 Nicktoon after Loud House and The Patrick Star Show to even make it to over 150 half hour airings in a year. Nick tried another Fairly OddParents sequel show, this time all animated with A New Wish, but that got almost no reruns after a month and disappeared after the series finale premiered. Transformers EarthSpark was only airing new to Nick premieres on Saturday mornings either at 7 or 8 AM, though said episodes were already on Paramount Plus already. Rugrats 2021 and Big Nate were canned this year and removed from Paramount Plus (with the former’s second half of season 2 never getting a release on Paramount Plus), with Nick never bothering to air their second seasons.

Live action originals are now starting to die off. For the first time in Nick’s history, no new live action original premiered this year. In addition to getting little to no reruns (the combined total for all of them being less than 120 half hours now), several ended this year with The Really Loud House, Danger Force, Nick News 2020, and That Girl Lay Lay getting canned and never coming back, even despite the former three’s connections to popular shows, leaving only NFL Slimetime and Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan as the only live action originals left by the year’s end. It is possible that Quiet on Set from the previous year impacted this, with the exposure on Nick’s terrible history of enabling Dan Schneider’s behavior possibly cutting down on any live action production. Writer’s strike certainly didn’t help either.

PAW Patrol dominates Nick Jr, moving on.

On acquired shows, The Smurfs 2021 hardly airs outside premieres. With the success of the Sonic movies and trying to hype up the third film which Paramount distributed, the Sonic franchise would begin to air on Nick with the recent shows Knuckles and Sonic Prime.

For the first time in a while, Nicktoons Network had burn offs with trying to finish airing Rugrats 2021’s second season after Paramount Plus dumped it, only to stop when only 4 episodes and 1 TV movie series finale were left unaired and sent to DVD instead. There was also a third 13 episode season of Rugrats 2021, but that to this day has never seen a release so it’s now lost media.

Things seem to be only getting worse for Nickelodeon than before. Between most of the spin off shows based on legacy properties ending (aside from The Patrick Star Show), the continued overreliance on third party movies, the permanent loss of the 8 PM hour, and live action originals beginning to truly die and thin out, the channel’s really losing even more value than ever.

It's as hilarious as it is sad that NFL Slimetime was the most aired live-action show thrice in a row (even if The Really Loud House tied with it in 2024).

2025 only worsened the autopilot era.

This year would mark significant structural changes to Nickelodeon. Paramount would merge with Skydance in the year, which would prove to have its problems later. Among the effects of the merger was Brian Robbins stepping down as president of the network this year, no new replacement announced yet. September 29 would mark a big change, being when they officially lost the 7 PM hour to Nick at Nite for the first time, pulling the same move Cartoon Network did in 2023 when they started to lose the primetime hours. In an attempt to get shows on Paramount Plus faster, Nick started to split seasons of all their shows into smaller ones in order to get them on Paramount Plus faster (they have to wait to air an entire season before going to streaming), which only caused confusion regarding how many seasons each show truly has.

Blocks are the same as before with the live action originals (the little that are left) are still on Wednesday nights. Nicktoons were back on Friday nights.

Among the Nicktoons, SpongeBob is still supreme, though it oddly dipped further down to below 2000 half hours for the first time since 2006 and also wasn’t the number 1 most aired. If I had to guess why, it’s the movies eating up slots that would’ve otherwise gone to the sponge and the loss of the 7 PM hour didn’t help either. The Patrick Star Show is still the number 2 Nicktoon, but even that’s fallen in airtime with little reruns and was completely gone during the entire summer. The Loud House has fallen so far in airtime, with reruns down to less than 30 half hours (mostly from weekday reruns from February to March and one off Saturday morning reruns from July 26 and December 6) and only 7 half hours premiering this year, with the Naughty or Nice film (which I didn’t count in the final total due to it technically not being part of the show in production order) having very little fan fare when it premiered, a far cry from the show’s heyday just three years ago. Max and the Midknights went on a long hiatus after “season 1” (or technically the first half of season 1 in production) finished in January and would air zero reruns with the “season 2” (or second half of season 1 in production) premiere being on Nicktoons first (possibly as a programming error but we never know). The last episodes of Kamp Koral (after already being on Paramount Plus last year) would make their TV premieres this year and never come back after that, surprising for a SpongeBob show. Rock Paper Scissors was gone for most of the year with season 1 finished last year and having no reruns, until it returned in November for its second season (which was split up into seasons 2 and 3) and reruns returned on weekends for one month, not a good sign. Transformers EarthSpark would get canned this year and the last episodes were dumped on Paramount Plus in December. The show would air the last episodes of “season 2” (or the first third of a production season 2 before it got split up) as TV premieres on the main channel, but never returned to air the remaining 10 episodes. TMNT would have a third Nicktoon in Tales of the TMNT, which already got released on Paramount Plus in the previous year but still had new to TV premieres for season 1 (or the first half of a production season 1) with no reruns. However, the show ultimately got canned due to the Skydance merger this year with “season 2” (or the second half of production season 1) releasing in December on Paramount Plus, with no sign on if it’ll ever air on TV, let alone the main channel. One new Nicktoon did premiere on TV this year with Wylde Pak, which also got its reruns gone after one month.

Live action originals are on life support by this point (combined total doesn't even each 100 anymore). Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan (one of the only two live action originals not canned last year) wrapped up this year. The Thundermans Undercover premiered (being the first live action original to premiere after Quiet On Set), but hardly aired reruns and it’s likely canned with the lack of indication on going beyond the 26 episode order. NFL Slimetime continues the seasonal run and currently is the last live action original on Nickelodeon (unless The Thundermans Undercover has a surprise renewal and/or if Hollywood Arts does second run premieres on Nick after releasing on Netflix first).

PAW Patrol is still Nick Jr’s top dog, but Rubble & Crew is also doing great as far as Nick Jr shows go.

For acquired shows, Sonic Prime strangely is doing okay, with regular weekday afternoon reruns starting in March, despite only having 16 out of the 24 episodes aired by the end of the year. Guessing the star power with the recent Sonic films is what helped the show, even getting more reruns than any Nickelodeon original series that isn’t either SpongeBob, PAW Patrol, or Rubble & Crew. The Smurfs 2021 is also strangely persistent in reruns, albeit only at 2 PM on weekdays, maybe to tie in with the 2025 Smurfs film. With Nickelodeon already airing The Boss Baby films frequently, it was only a matter of time until they aired the Back in Business series that was already on Netflix years ago starting in fall and strangely aired more than the non-SpongeBob Nicktoons. Unicorn Academy and Zokie of Planet Ruby aired very briefly before leaving with no fanfare. Play it Forward premiered in November on Wednesday nights, almost feeling like it’s mostly there to fill the gap left with how Nick’s live action originals are near-extinct.

On the Nicktoons Network burn off side, Transformers EarthSpark’s “season 3” (or the second third of production season 2) made the TV premiere there instead of the main channel.

2025 shows just how much worse the channel’s becoming, if that was even possible. Even SpongeBob slimming down to less than 2000 half hours for the first time since 2006 isn’t really a sign of improvement, only that the third party movies air so much that their own original content is getting neglected. Losing 7 PM only seals the deal that Nickelodeon is about to go down a path similar to Cartoon Network, with declining relevance and a decline in original content. The Skydance merger is already showing some bad signs, considering stuff like Dora, Tales of the TMNT, The Tiny Chef Show, and a Garfield Nicktoon (okay, that cancellation was announced in 2026 but I felt it was better to say it here) got scrapped and even a Ned’s Declassified sequel got passed over due to the merger despite Ned’s Declassified not even having any child actor issues or scumbag creators (and yet Victorious still got a sequel show despite Dirty Dan).

This might genuinely be Nick’s worst year by far and if this keeps up, it’s gonna be hard to see the channel survive another decade.

After 2018 every year, Loud House numbers has been decreasing, most decrease was 2023 and onwards.. Not surprising by this.
Not surprising that live actions are slowly dying.

May as well show what year each original series (outside the Nick Jr shows) that premiered from 1999 onward aired the most (doubt any 1999 premiered originals aired more in 1999 than 2000). Not doing the pre-1999 ones since they could've peaked earlier than what I covered.

Nicktoons:
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: 2013 at 3840.5 (and I doubt any year is surpassing it with how Nick lost the 7PM hour and only runs from 7AM-7PM right now)

Legendary Dudas also only had 6 half-hours, so the show never had any reruns on Nick (same with Middle School Moguls's 5 episodes but I'm not sad that one wasn't reran).

Interesting that 2008 was Drake and Josh's biggest year considering that the main show ended last year and this year only had the Christmas movie.

Game Shakers is the only Schneider's Bakery sitcom to not have at least 100 airings in a year (even Danger Force did and that was after Daniel left Nick).

You forgot to put a date for Big Nate's 64 airings.

Middle School Moguls is actually 4 episodes, not 5 episodes.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
