Hey Arnold!

Hey Arnold! was dark, meaningful and edgy at it's time, it dealt with regular kids (characters that were so deep and relatable) dealing with real issues in their every day life. That's what makes the show so amazing and different from all the others.

I just feel sorry for some of the people here who can't see what a great show Hey Arnold! really was.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with the assessment that "Anyone who doesn't like Hey, Arnold! just doesn't get it". I understood HA! fine, I just plain didn't care for it, as I found most of the episodes to be boring and predictable. Is it really so hard to fathom that not everyone believed Hey, Arnold! to be the masterpiece in miniature that some others found it to be? Everybody isn't going to like something. Just because someone doesn't like a TV show that you like doesn't mean that we're creatures that need to be pitied.

I can see what Hey, Arnold! was and what it set out to accomplish, and I mean no disrespect to anyone who enjoyed the series, but the plots and the characters just never pulled me in, and a cartoon dealing with "real" issues just isn't a major selling point for me. I don't like the real world. I live there, and it sucks. If I want real life, I'll watch the news. If I want to be entertained, I'll watch a good show. I watch cartoons to escape from the real world, not to be reminded of it.

HA! couldn't make up it's mind what it wanted to be; it tired to be all things to all viewers and ended up being about nothing in particular. Also, HA!'s stories were so predictable that you could bet off of them. It doesn't matter one bit how "deep" and "insightful" a show is if it doesn't entertain you, and HA! just didn't do it for me.

Hey Arnold... now that was a show to remember. I watched it all the time back in the day.

I loved how many characters it had. Almost every single one of them was interesting enough to have their own episode, and they were always good. I honestly can't think of any episodes of Hey Arnold that I'd actually call "bad." Of course, it has been several years since I last saw it...

It also had a great mix of comedy and seriousness. It knew how to be funny, but it also knew how to make you care about what happened to that Football Head and his cohorts, something a lot of cartoons couldn't do so well.

Short version: I didn't care for this when it was on. Back then my interest was on the really surreal, so I passed on the "slice of life" aspect. I watched it enough to know the characters, but I'd never call myself a fan. I'd probably appreciate it more now, and I plan on looking into it someday, but it's not exactly a high priority.

Basically Craig never talked or showed anything about Arnold's parents and decided that they are lost. They disappeared most likely so they used that idea. Arnold seems to live a great charmed life but with a huge chunk of himself missing. So They made the journal as a prequel to The Jungle Movie. The first movie was originally a TV movie but paramount pushed it to theaters and it bombed. So Nick cancelled TJM, even though they were currently making it. So for about 10 years it was put away in silence. Then 2012 came. The hype about it's cancellation increased and someone decided to start a cause to save TJM from the pits. Not only has Craig got his charisma for Hey Arnold back, he pretty much said I'm still passionate about the show and I plan to try to get TJM for the fans and myself. It's a great story left untold. So not only is he working at Nick again, Nick's being overwhelmed with sacks and sacks of letters about TJM and there is a good chance it could be happening in years to come!

Well there you go!I hope you have faith it'll happen again! c:

Real life is like that actually. And they did finally get to a point Helga couldn't hold it in. Throughout the show it wasn't just a running joke, but her love was deeper than just spouting poetry. She did things to Arnold that shows she really is a lot kinder than she appears. Brainy's the exact same as Helga, but he was shy not mean. Remember some of the things she did? Find Hyunn's daughter, she showed Arnold a good time(valentine's ep), saved him from Summer.
If you put yourself in Helga's shoes, I would have waited for a long time to say anything too.
Also Craig wanted to focus on other relationships too before finally getting to the spot where it was time to step up the response on it. In TJM Arnold would com back to Helga on her confession from the movie. And Arnold's persona's easily explained. He was like a little Buddha, the voice of reason in a chaotic world. His parents were also humanitarians and was raised well with his Grandparents who lived in a different era than Arnold's parents. But even with all that Arnold still made mistakes like everyone else. Helga's masquerade showed that Arnold wasn't being the best type of guy when Helga was finally nice. The egg story Arnold jumped too hard on her, and he even used his best friend's sister to make the girl he likes like-like him. Though he seems perfect in every way, he's still like a lot of other people.

Now here is someone I'd like to talk to! I agree that Hey Arnold is EASILY my favorite cartoon of all time. Though I can say it's on the 90's block on teennick! Craig has stated as one of his goals now that he's back at nick, is to try continuing Hey Arnold!

I liked this show back when it was on. I thought one of the best episodes was the Stoop Kid one.

However, I stopped watching near the end of its run. I didn't care for how Arnold slowly became"perfect". If there's one thing I still don't understand, why didn't they just make The Jungle Movie the actual theatrical movie instead of taking the neighborhood movie (originally made for TV) and putting extra shadows on it?

Well Arnold Saves the Neighborhood was supposed to be, but Paramount decided it should go theatrical anyway and it bombed. They wanted to do it and it didn't make them enough money so they cancelled everything.

Amen to this. I have no problem with people not liking it. Everyone is entitled to what they do and don't like, but it is best to stay out of threads that you don't like or feel like talking about.
Back to Hey Arnold, it was a FANTASTIC show. No show did this. Most people praise Ren and Stimpy, but in my world it was utter crap and it was in the 90's golden era, so to say. The variety of characters was simply astounding. Dealing with topics where everyone today would whine and complain and say it "offends" them. I enjoy it to this day and will fight for it's return. Arnold's deserves to get the chance to find his parents and Helga deserves a kiss from Arnold accepting her feelings.

MOD EDIT: @Patsuko Hey, let's refrain from double (and triple, etc.) posting. It counts as an irritating style of writing and is against the rules here. If you need to add something, edit your first post. Usually we only allow double posting if it's been at least a day or so.

I'm "rewatching" the series and I'm currently on season 4. I'm still enjoying the series so far, even though it's not as strong as season 3, and even though I'm reminded more than a few times how some of their character development is reset (Miriam constantly being a clueless clutz and a bad mum is a big one).

Veteran's Day was a solid episode though, one that highlighted the important meaning of the holiday more than just being "a day off." I thought it was not only refreshingly bold in terms of showing Nazis in a kids cartoon (albeit replacing the Swastika with a frowny face), but it also had a few moving moments, especially the ending that showed what heroism in war looked like, how it's not always just killing the bad guys and being a big action hero.

She is an alcoholic so this is not unrealistic.
Yes, but there were episodes showing her realization and acknowledgement of her flaws as a mother. It's one thing to be an alcoholic, but it's another to ignore previous growths and simply dismiss lack of growth as "alcoholism." That's lazy writing. There's no acknowledgement that Miriam has slid back into alcoholism because the show wasn't tackling realistic alcoholism; it was resetting character growth to zero like most cartoons.

Speaking of unrealistic character regressions, Egg Story was another big one where Arnold suddenly forgot an entire season of bonding with Helga IN THE SAME SEASON. lol He acted like a massive jerk to her this episode even though he has started acting amicable and friendly towards her a few episodes ago.

But anyway, it's why Hey Arnold doesn't really work perfectly as a serialized cartoon because of continuity goofs like this.
