I grew up with Cartoon Network when I discovered in 1993, but wasn't sure about late 1992 if my grandparents' house had CN and we lived on military base that had crappy cable TV, so they didn't add CN until 1995. My dad retired from military in summer 1993 and we were able to get out after lived for almost one year. After moved to Birmingham, we got cable from Time Warner and I remember channel number is 18 for CN and 44 for Nickelodeon. Disney Channel was premium and you need descrambler box, but during analog day in 1980s, DC was on 56 if cable guy plug in and you had to wait for few days to watch a premium channel that you subscribed. I remember my grandma told me about new 24/7 cartoon channel is coming and I realized that was CN.
In 1993, CN aired old shows from H-B and theatrical cartoons, so youngest show was from 1980s, so yeah, it was like few years. That was grandparent channel for you and I loved it.
CN started to face more problems after Turner and WB merged, so merger was best to get Looney Tunes cartoon unified but WB started to become more greedy by pulled Looney Tunes away from ABC and Nick, so they treated Looney Tunes poorly after failure of Looney Tunes: Back in Action, so later, CN cannibalized the anime and action shows until Adult Swim bought Toonami back. They tried to add live action shows but it was failed. That put CN and WB in bad spot because of their series of poor decisions, so now with cord cutters, CN is paying a heavy price - much less viewers, Turner channels are suffered and merger with Discovery is no better. It would become much more painful if it is under Skydance and they will destroy the CN with chainsaw, so they move TTG to Nick to air, along with SpongeBob like 12 hours of SpongeBob and 12 hours of TTG on Nicktoons. That why fiercely opposed to M&A.
I wouldn't object if they sell CN and other linear networks to AMC Networks, Weigel, Hearst and other companies, so they will put rerun of shows and as for new shows, it depends on agreement with WB.
Now, future for the CN is uncertain because of WBD split the business and M&A drama (looking at David Ellison).
Or another unnecessary merger made by a nepo baby and who knows what will happen next.
Yeah, I know it is David Ellison lol.
I can't blame on you for huge concern with CN and I agreed with you.
Cartoon Network is not dead. A lot of new projects are in development, like the upcoming Powerpuff Girls reboot. And some of them are already completed and currently airing, like The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball.
You hoped too much about the future that could make you disappointed in later time, so I know many people are worried about current state of Cartoon Network, including myself and you are just making problem worse for CN. New cartoon shows? I'm indifferent because CN would treat those shows poorly and they need to fix the problem with network manager.
But CN In usa doesnt get profitable . Like how
I believe that CN is still profitable but not generous like they did before cord cutter era, so they don't fall into unprofitable territory until later this decade or next decade, depends on how fast is decline with linear networks. Adult Swim just made more profits than CN did because of advertising for adult viewers.
