For some reason, Crunchyroll’s age ratings are super inconsistent... there is not even a way now to fix and feedback since the forums closed

I have noticed that whenever crunchyroll gives age rating to their shows, nudity and risque topics is rated harsher than violence in general (But sometimes, even that is not consistent). Things like rent-a girlfriend and konosuba is 16+ (tv-ma) but my dress up darling is 14+ (tv-14) even though that has more sexually explicit content than both of them . Konosuba, dandadan and chainsaw man is 16+ for violence on crunchyroll even though the violence and gore in CSM would make both dandadan and konosuba look like a kids show in comparison. While some age ratings are stupidly high, some are stupidly low as well. For example, Kaiju no. 8, rurouni kenshin, sword art online , frieren: beyond journey's end (i know, crazy) , are rated 14+ even though the violence exceeds most tv-14 standards. The violence can include but not limited to, blood and/ or gore, severing of limbs, arms, legs, fingers, etc, decapitations, impalement, stabbings, slicing people in half, body horror, etc. It is even more violent than many 16+ shows like vivy fluorite eye's song, hunter x hunter, shiboyugi, etc.

Can i know if this is technical error or just based on vague community guidelines instead of interns watching the show forehand and then giving it an age rating? Not sure? But at the current state, it feels very off and wrong.

Crunchyroll used to not have an age rating system at all other than inconsistent "log in to watch this" filtering. I think the reason they added one in the first place, other than the blowback over Goblin Slayer (since Crunchyroll didn't have age ratings, there was a point where VRV slapped a TV-PG on pretty much their entire catalog, which is where the "Crunchyroll gave Goblin Slayer a PG!" story comes from), is because certain countries like the UK are moving to legally require it.

Hence, it makes sense that their standards are a bit inconsistent, as countries like Australia and the UK actually have a self-rating tool that distributors can use to get age ratings. That's still inconsistent, but it at least gives them a standard to go by other than somebody just slapping a number on.

On a wider scale, it's hard to find an age rating system that hasn't always been inconsistent. The V-chip system is open to interpretation, and there has been some insanely graphic violence in TV-14 series (such as NBC's Hannibal) because broadcast networks know they'll have a hard time getting advertisers with a TV-MA.

well fair point but i would like to state it is better for some age ratings to be on the higher side than the lower side. But still crunchyroll doesn't have a reliable contact option? Do i need to contact sony or fcc or something? I dont think sexual violence or gore comes in tv-14. since tv-14 is more similar to pg-13 with action violence, but not gore + blood.

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
