Was watching Rescue Rangers just now and noticed that all the male rodents, who, were it not for gifted character designers, would have ridiculously sized genitalia, were not wearing any pants. Yet, the female rodent, the one character who wouldn’t need any altering, had to wear pants. Of course, my mind quickly thought about Deviant Art, and how, there probably was a pretty good reason for her to wear pants. In fact, her jumpsuit, wasn’t just because it fit her profession. It was because it was the most clothing any female character could wear. The absolute least revealing. I mean, as animals, some just wear a skirt/tutu and that’s it. No top, no undergarments, nothing. So realizing just how many female characters wear skirts, I wondered if she was the first female cartoon to wear pants.
My husband mentioned Judy Jetson, which I quickly checked various versions of her, and no. She was an example of a character who wore pants WITH a skirt or dress. Not sure who was the first to do that, but still, no official answer. Google was of no help. Anyone here have an idea? Possible guess?
