Looking at how people seem to be split on the later Lantz shorts, thought it'd be fun to see which director had the best shorts from Lantz?
When Lantz reopened the studio in 1950, Walter Lantz became the initial sole director of the studio.
In 1952, Don Patterson replaced Lantz's unit as the director. In the following year, a second unit opened with Paul J Smith as the second director.
When Don Patterson got demoted to animator in 1954, Tex Avery returned to the studio and took over the director unit.
A year later though, Tex Avery left due to salary disputes, leading Alex Lovy to take over as director of the unit in 1955.
In 1960, Alex Lovy left for Hanna Barbara, leading Jack Hannah to take over his unit that year.
In 1963, Jack Hannah retired, leading Sid Marcus to take over his unit. This continued until 1967 when Marcus' unit was cut due to budget cuts and left Smith as sole director until closing in 1972.
