"DuckTales" (2017) Series Talkback (Spoilers)

I do hope that they don't play it off like Donald becoming a love sick fool over Daisy and if they develop a relationship have it happen more naturally. Like they don't need to treat this like the old school cartoons and have Donald go over and out of his way for Daisy but still have them find a way to hook up as a couple.
It's Donald and Daisy. I expect things to get hectic :p.
I do have to say it's weird hearing Daisy in this show as honestly I'm used to hearing her more in Disney's House of Mouse or Mickey Mouse Works or those snippets of Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse I heard. And yeah in there like in this one she's voiced by Tress MacNeille who is Daisy's current official VA (thus also someone they couldn't recast) but this series obviously has a different vocal direction that does sound a bit more natural for the character which works well but again is an adjustment. Guess we'll see if she becomes more reoccurring in the future since yeah characters like say The Rescue Rangers would only work in minor cameos or showing up as part of the super large cast gatherings (that I'm sure we'll have at the end of this season like we did for "Moonvasion") but they could do more with Daisy. Again hopefully more then just replaying the old relationship the two had in the earlier cartoons.
Her performance seems in line with her Daisy in the modern Mickey shorts :).

Well even if Daisy appearance are limited, I hope there will be an episode in which she is not in, but Donald is texting her. That would be a good modern take on couples.

Yeah, I'm sure that she'll be mentioned in other episodes. And this will not be her only appearance in the series, so perhaps there will be an episode in the second half of the season where Della gives her blessing to the relationship. I'd like to think that Della would be happy for her brother, and I hope that that's precisely what will happen. Donald looked after the kids for 10+ years, so I'd hate to see Della treat Daisy poorly.

I smell a Girls Night Out episode in the making ;).

Or maybe an episode where Della tries to orchestrate the perfect date for Donald and Daisy. (We've already seen her as a Soccer Mom to Huey, and I'd like her to be similarly supportive here.) Honestly, that would probably be my preferred choice, though I like your idea as well! :)

I'm conflicted. While I think the one thing this show does better than Barks and Rosa is having strong female characters, I also don't think the Ducks should ever be about 'ships. So while I love these strong women as much as you guys do, I'm resisting the idea of romances very strongly.

I agree. Even though I still love the original Ducktales with all my heart, but the new Ducktales makes the female characters more strong and great role models for girls.

The show hasn't really had much romance other then stuff that was there in the source material, like Scrooge and Goldie and Donald and Daisy.

I don't even see any "shipping" really, it's Donald and Daisy. Of course they're going to more or less end up together. It's like thinking Mickey and Minnie won't end up together in a cartoon. It would be more of a shipping thing if they tried to pair them with other characters, which I don't expect to happen.

Even Donald and Daisy? Don't get me wrong though -- I don't want her to become a main cast member. But I would like to see her show up occasionally, which seems to be what they're going for.

Don't compare Mickey and Minnie with Donald and Daisy. It's insulting to Mickey and Minnie who actually care about each other and usually treat each other decently.

Even Donald and Daisy. It sounds bad but I never got the sense that either cared that much about the other in the comics. Donald took Daisy for granted and Daisy often seems to just be using Donald. I'm glad the women on this show are more multidimensional, but I also think giving Donald and Daisy a legit romance and ship is taking them far more seriously than they deserve. They aren't a legit adult romance. They are basically sullen teenagers who have oddly aged into adults but still treat each other like highschoolers anyways.

People have been bringing up Scrooge and Goldie as a ship, but Scrooge and Goldie on the show is another failing. Scrooge and Goldie are the one legit ship in the Barks and Rosa comics. And it resonates because it's a doomed romance. The producers of this show think it's a "Will they or won't they?" starcrossed lovers bit, when that's never been the subtext. Goldie can never be Scrooge's happy ending. She has to remain the one part of his past he holds onto and wishes he could change. Their relationship in the present day very much needs to stay past tense, at least on Scrooge's end.

They aren't sugary sweethearts like Mickey and Minnie but there has been plenty of instances showing that Donald and Daisy care about each other and treat each other well. They're relationship and style is just different.

I don't think it's a matter of "seriousness," more then just being consistent with how Donald and Daisy have been depicted for years.

Not in the comics. Know your Duck lore. If this show wants to be comic based, ships, particularly a healthy ship for Donald and Daisy, are a bad idea. Although bad ideas have never seemed to stop this show before (see sociopath Doofus Drake).

In the comics Daisy is not a person Donald loves. She is a hassle. She is a trial for the "Everyman" to endure. A terribly sexist message to be sure, which is why this franchise needs to avoid ships altogether. The groundwork isn't built for it.

I'd say it's more a modern cartoon thing to tease ships with the "will they or won't they" mentality. For reference, Wander Over Yonder, which Francisco Angones previously worked on, put forth the idea of Hater and Dominator as a pairing. The audience is savvy enough to know it won't happen , yet it's not a major component to the show, and is also quite fun. As for the issue of Daisy, I don't know about the comics (there aren't that many diehard fans that talk about them a lot), but I'd say that Daisy has had characterization that's all over the place in animation. She's sometimes level headed (like in Quack Pack), sometimes starstruck and occasionally temperamental (like in House Of Mouse), and sometimes more of a ditzy goofball (like in the Disney Junior shows).

I doubt the show is basing Donald and Daisy's dynamic purely off the comics since they have gone well past going strictly by the classic books by now, and Donald and Daisy's relationship has evolved since then.

Again, I just don't see it as "shipping" when it involves an established relationship in the Disney mythos. You could just say "no romance" at all, which I think is what you're going for.

No romance at all. Clear?

Seeing Daisy so angry in the thumb nail, I wonder if Daisy's temper is going to be a nod to "Don Duck", her debut short according to some people.
