DC Comics Solicitations - August 2011

https://www.toonzone.net/forums/dfdfdf
is paul dini finished with zatanna or is this a fill in issue/run?

A good 90% of Zatanna's been fill-in issues for Dini. :)

Getting
-Flashpoint #4-5: He must have most of these already in the can, because I find it hard to believe Kubert can get two extra-sized issues out in one month.
-Booster Gold #47
-Flashpoint: Kid Flash Lost #3: The only definite Flashpoint "buy" of the minis, but just because I'm a big Kid Flash fan.
-Action Comics #904: Yay! The Doomsday stuff is ending!
-DC Retroactive: Green Lantern - The 90's #1: A new Marz/Banks Kyle story? Such an easy buy.
-Batman #713: Is Daniel off the title now?
-Batman and Robin #26
-Batgirl #24
-Red Robin #26: I've been wondering since Brightest Day started when we'd see Boomerang and Tim interact. Really looking forward to this.
-Birds of Prey #15
-Superman #714: Hey, Grounded ends! With little-to-no fanfare, I see.
-Superboy #10-11
-Green Arrow #15
-Teen Titans #99-100: Double shipping Titans and Superboy? And one of the Titans ones is bonus-sized? I'm so broke this month.
-Zatanna #16
-Tiny Titans #43
-Young Justice #7

May Get/Not Getting But Worth Note
-Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance #3: If it looks good.
-Flashpoint: Citizen Cold #3: As with Batman
-Flashpoint: Project Superman #3: As with Citizen Cold
-Batman: The Dark Knight #5: Another month, another Dark Knight resolicit.
-Batman 80-Page Giant 2011 #1: Seems a little soon to do another 80-page giant after the last one.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of its impact on the DC Universe, FLASHPOINT #5 is the only title that DC Comics is soliciting in this catalogue to arrive in stores on August 31.

Anyone else noticing how most titles this month (or rather, the ones that directly affect DC continuity) are poised to either wrap up their story arcs or have put out a one-issue filler? We won't know for sure till the Sept solicits, but this could be an indication of whatever changes Flashpoint may bring.

- I wish DC would've saved the 90s Retro-Active books for Sept. Don't know why they felt the need to put both 80s and 90s out this month, but it's definitely gonna be some hefty coin.

[GETTING[
AMERICAN VAMPIRE #18
BATGIRL #24
DETECTIVE COMICS #881
FLASHPOINT #4 & 5
HELLBLAZER #282
RED ROBIN #26

[MIGHT BE GETTING]
BATMAN #713: Written by Fabian Nicieza?! Well then, I may be on board with this.
Batman 80-Page Giant 2011 #1: If anything that cover, is luring me in to buying this.

I have a feeling that the entire DC Universe is in for a reboot in September with some type of early days of the DC Universe scenario. I doubt everything will go back to "Year One" but I think it will be early enough that a lot of the baggage accumulated over the years won't be there. Probably more like a "Year Three or Four" where the characters been around long enough to be established so they don't have to retell everyone's origins but short enough so they could reintroduce things "for the first time."

The aim is probably to create a more "media friendly" DC Universe so the multimedia tie-ins wouldn't be too radically different from the comic books. In other words, an unmarried Superman, Dick Grayson as Robin, Wonder Woman romantically involved with Steve Trevor, etc.

That sounds awful. I hope they don't do that. I highly doubt they will anyway. I think it'll leave things even more confusing, plus what would they do with all the characters that won't fit in this new timeline but are still popular like Tim Drake, Damien Wayne, Stephanie Brown, Kyle Rayner, Bart Allen etc.

Comics I’ll be buying
None.

Comics I might buy
DC Retro-Active: Justice League of America – The 80s #1
DC Retro-Active: Justice League of America – The 90s #1
DC Retro-Active: Superman – The 80s #1
DC Retro-Active: Wonder Woman – The 80s #1

More remarks here.

Other than Retro-Active, not much of interest for me this month. One question: where's "Tiny Titans" and "Batman: The Brave and the Bold"? Are they canceled?

Not to mention we just spent a year to reintegrate Vertigo characters into the DCU. Don't think Geoff Johns would pen that arc and toss it away in a few months.

Tweaking Mister Intensity's idea a bit though, what I could see happening (even more so because of Johns' love for the Silver Age) is that this somehow gives rebirth to the old Earth-1/Earth-2 concept - Barry manages to restore the timeline, but it spins off into a 53rd-Earth (or such) that becomes the timeless, "media-friendly" Earth where the heroes are exactly as everyone wants them to be. The current Earth then continues on post-Flashpoint (whatever that fate is) and characters are allowed to die, pass the torch, go through real upheavals, etc. We're seeing some of that already in the Batman line, and maybe DC decided rather than wipe the slate clean again in the future, they'd just make a new "timeless" Earth and have their cake and eat it too, like in the old days.

That...actually sounds kind of cool. I'd be interested in seeing how that plays out. But having said that, I'll be getting:

Jonah Hex #79
Scalped #52

And I might pick up any of those "Retro titles" that peak my interest. And that's it. I'm cutting back on DC to make way for more Marvel title reading.

What I will be getting:

BATMAN #713
GREEN ARROW #15
JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #54
POWER GIRL #27
BOOSTER GOLD #47
BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH: THE SEARCH FOR SWAMP THING #3
FLASHPOINT #4-5
FLASHPOINT: ABIN SUR – THE GREEN LANTERN #3
FLASHPOINT: KID FLASH LOST #3
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #63
GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #13
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #60

What I will be might getting:

WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS AFTERMATH #2

Superman Beyond #0, Zatanna #16, the Bat-family stuff, the kids stuff and the Retroactives.

Maybe Jonah Hex #70. Ryan Sook!

A good 90% of Zatanna's been fill-in issues for Dini. :)

19%.

Math is fun!

I was more joking with that number, but even then. 19% when only, like, 13 issues have come out? Wow.

Two and a half issues of those thirteen. It sorta sounds bigger when called 19%.

Glad I got you to watch Stranger Things.

If I may recommend more media for you to check out, here's a starter:

You've mentioned that haven't read the original TMNT comics from Mirage Studios. Well, this video by YouTuber "Soundout12" gives a decent roadmap for where to start:

dmxx116 really likes to wish for people not to return back to so and so because their films didn't do so well. I don't agree with everything he says, though I agree on that Jared Leto shouldn't play Skeletor.
I'm sorry but I disagree with what GRPHX said about the past five films with Daniel Craig as James Bond as well as the choice of Denis Villeneuve as director and Steven Knight as writer in the next film because I really doubt Villeneuve's take will be like the Craig films at all and besides, all of the stuff he mentioned happened before the Craig films such as Licence to Kill.

Hi, welcome to Toonzone

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
