Characters You Thought Were Voiced By Someone Else

In Dexter Laboratory’s infamous Christmas episode, the “ho ho hos” Santa makes sounds like it was being done by Tom Kane. Turns out Jeff Bennett (who voices Dexter’s dad and Johnny Bravo) is the one doing them.

I recently rewatched Lightyear and remembered how eerily Sox sounded like J. G. Quintel (creator/voice of Regular Show's Mordecai), but no, he was just voiced by one of Pixar's animators.

I had assumed (probably long after I last watched it) that Corey Burton was the narrator for the Brendan Fraser version of George of the Jungle. Turns out it was Keith Scott. Mr. Burton did narrate for the Fraser version of Dudley Do-Right, on the other hand.

Speaking of misconceptions and film adaptations of Jay Ward shows, I also thought George and Dudley were both Disney films; Dudley was instead handled by Universal via Davis Entertainment.

In Sly Cooper, Bentley sounds like he was voiced by Tom Kenny, where in fact it’s actually Matt Olsen doing the voice.

I thought that Bobby Moynihan was the voice of that dog and Stephanie Anne Mills as the voice of a rabbit in Nature Cat. Who were their actual voice actors?

I thought Sticks on Sonic Boom was Cree Summer.

I originally thought Mr. Bone from Doug was voiced by Don Knotts (I know the character was based off him).

For a while, I thought the same, but it was Billy West doing a near perfect Knotts mimic.

I thought Ursula’s season 2 voice actress in the 2007 George of the Jungle cartoon was Emile-Claire Barlow.

I also thought that Bread Pudding’s voice in Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City was Carter Hayden because his voice sounds similar to that of Noah from Total Drama. It was actually Chirag Naik who voices Bread Pudding.

In Octopath Traveler II, the English dub features Agnea's voice, which bears a striking resemblance to Michelle Creber's, although she is actually voiced by Xanthe Huynh.

On an Instagram post of the American Dragon: Jake Long intro, I saw a comment saying that the titular character's voice was the "most Rob Paulsen voice", but, personally, I don't really hear it. Dante Basco's voices remind me more of Charlie Schlatter's if anything.

As for who I thought was voiced by someone else, at one point, I thought that Professor Utonium in The Powerpuff Girls was voiced by Tom Kenny, not Kane. I also used to think that Harold from Billy and Mandy was voiced by Carlos Alazraqui.

Phineas Flynn by whoever voiced Lazlo. When I started watching footage of the show in English in 2011 on YouTube, I was perplexed and thought it was the same VA for both.

Carlos Alazraqui voiced Lazlo, and that's funny because both characters are very similar to each other. Speaking of Vincent Martella (Phineas' voice actor), his voice for Bradley in Milo Murphy's Law sounds a lot like Dee Bradley Baker to me (his performance is very Bubble Bass-like).

I actually have a question about one. The Jetsons episode "Robot's Revenge" has a one-off character named Ralph who is apparently voiced by Frank Nelson, but on some line reads his voice sounded more like Michael Bell, as he had inflections that reminded me of Drew Pickles and Quackerjack. Does anybody know if maybe this was a case where Bell was brought in to finish/re-dub some lines or something? Frank Nelson was getting up there by this point, after all - he passed away only a year or so after that episode aired.

If so, there is precedent for it- Jeff Bergman did some additional lines for both George Jetson and Mr. Spacely for Jetsons: The Movie, since both VAs passed away before the film was released.

When I first watched the Nelvana Tintin cartoon, I thought Captain Haddock was voiced by Brian Doyle-Murray.

Likewise, when I first saw Regular Show, I initially thought that Benson was voiced by Mr. Lawrence.

Pumbaa Jr. the alligator on Timon & Pumbaa sounds identical to the baby characters voiced by Kath Soucie like Phil and Lil on Rugrats. It’s actually Nancy Cartwright doing his voice.

Alex, who was added to Street Fighter 6 yesterday, sorta sounded like Billy West on some line reads. It turns out he was voiced by Mark Whitten.

Speaking of Billy West, I thought that he voiced Big Nate, but it's actually Ben Giroux. In the same show, I thought Spencer Grammer voiced his sister Ellen, not Dove Cameron.

At first, I thought Sandra Shore from "Inhumanoids" was voiced by Jennifer Darling, but she's actually voiced by Susan Silo.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
