C&C - Samurai Champloo - "Art of Altercation" [7/2]

With all these Bebop-Champloo links going on, you think we'll have an episode centered around the squirell like Ed in Mushroom Samba?:anime:
As cool as that sounds, Momo only shows up a few more times in the series.

I guess I'll be the first to say that I didn't really like this episode. Okay, first of all, how did Mugen get robbed when he had no money? Just a little while ago they couldn't afford to stay at an inn, so what exactly did the woman take? And then after they do sword tricks to get money she robs them again and Mugen does nothing?!? What the hell, I thought he was supposed to be a bad ass? Why doesn't he slice her head off or something?

Sure, we learned a miniscule bit about Jin's past but it nothing all that interesting.

And the humor on the boat at the end just seemed kind of dumb to me. Typical men are dumb humor that you'd find on Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond or 50 other sitcoms. I didn't find the rest of the episode all that funny either. I guess I'm supposed to laugh at a guy beatboxing in ancient Japan, but it seemed more awkward than funny.

There were a few moments of good character interaction but overall this wasn't much more interesting than last week. And considering the whole episode seemed to be building up to the fight near the end, it was kind of disappointing.

For the better.

No it didn't. You don't have a clue the follower even had a plot of his own until the very end. And of course they could get robbed, they were eating before Mugen and Jin got lured away. They sold Jin's high-classed glasses for money. They just couldn't stay in an inn at the very beggining of the episode.

Except for a few plot twists, this reminded me of a Samurai Jack episode.

How many times does Mugen need to be poisoned/drugged by a strange woman before he learns?

Well, yeah, but it was building up to the fight with the other guy. But, yeah, I guess it was a nice twist that it was actually his follower who fought instead of the leader.

Oh yeah, how could I have forgotten about that. And Paranoia Agent confused me last night too, I must have been wicked tired last night or something cause I'm missing important details in these shows.

Is this show ever going to improve? Last night's episode wasn't any better than the previous two. The whole "THIS SHOW ISN'T HISTORICALLY ACCRUATE! HA! HA! AREN'T WE CLEVER!" is getting really tedious. The new guy in this episode was annoying and way over exposed, hell, we got more backstory on him than the three main characters in the entire series. The tiny, little peak at Jin's past was the only interesting thing, and that lasted a whole two or three minutes. There's nothing like a show that focuses more on the secondary characters than the main characters.

I had low enough expectations of SC to begin with due to the Bebop connection, but it's surpassing even that. I can't believe I'm this bored by a samurai show, it's beginning to be a chore to sit through. I really hope it improves soon, otherwise I'm looking at another GitS snoozefest, and I never thought I'd say that about a show that wasn't sci-fi.

Of course, who wouldn't expect anachronisms from a show blended with anachronisms. Damn the show for following a steady pattern.

I don't recall Mugen being so crazy over a woman much older then him in the episodes before. I think both guys secretly like Fuu, they are just scared to admit it! Fuu does act foolish sometimes. It was nice of her to flirt with an older man, to get the other guys attention!

I wonder who Samurai who smells of Sunflowers is? Are we going to find out at the end of the show? I bet he has close ties to Fuu, and somebody who is very important to her.

"Harem of my heart" will soon became a part of my standard vocabulary. :D

Swung back into Champloo with this one. Quite a bit of funny with the beat-boxing and shameless self-promotion. Lush drinking the boys under the table and sword tricks with pig-tail Fuu are also personal highlights.

Oh god

Wine hangovers suck
