Episode 2 was pretty sweet/enjoyable/weird,

Hidomi's second strange dream with zombies and her becoming a zombie was creepy/unsettling.

Hinae, best silly cute mother.

Julia Jinyu, cool that she's the opposite of Haruko being serious/deadpan to Haruko's wacky comedy nature, Julia being the unexpected new houseguest like Haruko will be enjoyable.

Haruko being the new teacher, great/funny, cool seeing more of Haruko in the story now.

Hidomi to deliver the handout to Ko Iide who's absent, sweet.

The creepy eyepatched old man customer is interesting, there will be more to his character the next episodes.

Ko's friends Goro/Marco great/funny, they have great chemistry with Hidomi.

Poor Ko doing that intense harsh training was interesting.

I'll love seeing that terrible bully get smashed, but speaking another language with subtitles was interesting.

So love Mrs. Iide(Ko's mother), next best funny mother, hahahahaha.

Ko the best male love interest for Hidomi was great, love the funny Lupin III reference from him, hahahahahaha.

Haruko showing up to Hidomi/Ko was great/funny.

Julia vs. Haruko was awesome/enjoyable, their rivalry was great/interesting.

Poor Ko the punching bag during Julia vs. Haruko was funny, hehehe.

Julia knowing Haruko's dark secret with Haruko being a manipulative selfish user was great.

Poor Hidomi being the robot monster of the day was weird/intense.

Julia healing Hidomi with her car was cool/interesting.

Hidomi finally giving Ko the handout was great.


Agreeing with the guys, the second episode better than the first episode with Haruko getting more involved in the story.

A beach episode next, sweet, Haruko looking super hot.

With the episode having a title of "Freebie Honey", I would have thought they'd throw in something Go Nagai-related. Like actually having Haruko transform into Cutie Honey, as a callback to her appearing as the Daicon girl from the early Gainax promotional films. But nope.

I assumed the reference was to the Radiohead album Pablo Honey.

What an episode. Hidomi imagining herself munched on seems...symbolic (since this is FLCL of course it is.) Hidomi seems almost like whatever the modern equivalent of a goth is (she seems to go with that pale goth skin). Jinyu and Haruko's guitar battle was pretty cool. It's still not the original, but it's still great.

Anyone else catch the wordplay with the names? After Hiromi overflowed, she was saying ‘Ide’. Ide’s name sounds like ‘Ow’ in Japanese. Neat little callback to the “Tasuku” play on words from the first season.

I noticed that too. The dubbers seem to have a thing of leaving in Japanese wordplay that would be lost on the target audience.

Speaking of which, one of the behind-the-scenes videos on Toonami's website has Haruko's English VA recording a line partially untranslated. The recording she's listening to of the Japanese VA has Haruko saying "Moshi moshi" (as if responding to a phonecall), but it gets left alone in the translation.

I found out some interesting news concerning Hidomi's headphones. They are appearently based on a real product, a quite expensive product. http://ksassets.timeincuk.net/wp/uploads/sites/54/2014/10/axent-wear-cat-heaphones-1.jpg. Unfortunately, I've heard that they break easily and provide really crap quality sound. This doesn't sound good for those looking for Hidomi cosplay gear. (In other news I found a picture of a Hidomi cosplayer at A-Kon, kind of to my surprise as it usually takes a while for a show to get cosplayers but FLCL is a pretty big brand name. I still wonder how she did the cat ears).

I thought that this episode was pretty good. The zombie opening was a lot more disturbing and graphic this time around. I was kind of confused as to why the classmates kept acting as if Haruko had been their teacher all year based on the year book, but some more time could have passed between the first and second episodes. I think that happened with the original series too. Not a huge amount of time, but more than a couple of days.

Hidomi trying to find Ide only to see him working away was a bit unexpected. He must have a hard time balancing out his life there and his school life. Hidomi's crush on Ide was still pretty apparent, but they were both nervous about it. Haruko using the robot from Ide during her fight with Jinyu was expected, but it was pretty funny to see it hanging around some other people before it was called from Ide's head. That definitely felt fitting for the series. Jinyu talking about how she and Haruko are one would have been a cooler twist if the ending theme didn't give it away. Hidomi overflowing was also expected. It is impressive that Jinyu can heal people with her car. Hidomi and Ide laughing after she finally gave him his assignment was pretty cute. Overall, it was a pretty good episode. It definitely had a bit more of the FLCL style of humor than the previous episode, so that was a good sign.
