I thought that this episode was pretty good. It was dialogue heavy, but given that at this point we were still unfamiliar with these new characters and kind of tossed into a time skip without a lot information beforehand, I think they kind of needed to do that. I don't think we even knew how many years had passed until this episode aired.
The scene on the train was interesting in showing just how different both Gabi and Falco really are. Gabi is completely into becoming the strong noble soldier. She has the strength, gets all kinds of praise and is expected to become another Titan. She basically bought into the propaganda hook, line and sneaker. Falco seems much less interested in becoming a solider, doesn't have the drive that Gabi does, and recognize that Gabi getting the Titan would basically give her a tragic death. Even though Renier kind of scared him into reciting the pledge of becoming an Honorary Marleyean, it was clear that he still agreed with Falco, if only because he wanted him to save Gabi from such a fate.
I actually thought that the dinner scene with Renier describing Sasha stealing potatoes was rather funny in a dark humor kind of way. That entire scene was comedy relief before hand, so describing it as such a dark and terrifying way was pretty funny. Even Reiner kind of slipped by saying that there were all kinds of people on the island when they have brainwashed into believing that everyone on that island is a devil and that their entire race is something to be ashamed of. Overall, it was a pretty good episode.
