Ask A FUNimation Rep!

1. Can't say the exact date but expect it before summer. They will be 5.1 redubed singles.

2. Nothing more at the moment. (shakes magic eight ball - ask again later)

3. Nothing right now.

Gee. I just anwered my first six questions and I skirted the issue on over half. Even I'm pissed! Nothing has changed newswise for awhile for those questions. Give it a while and I'll have more answers.

What are you, an ADV Rep? (kidding kidding  )

Anyway, thanks for agreeing to this. I'll try to moderate things as best as I can, as will the other mods, I'm sure.

And I'd pay good money to see a cabbit/babbit anime as well.

I must concur. I have to commend you fine Texans for your work on Fruits Basket. I can't get enough of it.

Though one of those Kyo hats would sweeten the deal quite nicely. *hint hint, nudge nudge, say no more*

That sublicense for DB season 1 still isn't up yet? Drag... Well at least we got to see them well dubbed on Cartoon Network.

Any heads up on what some of the Fullmetal Alchemist DVD extras are going to be, or a full cast list?

As far as Case Closed goes, have you been satisfied with how it's doing on TV? Have any more episodses/movies been picked up for Adult Swim?

Any tidbits on Samurai 7 you can share with us?

Thanks for taking the time to drop by.
We are going to launch a Fullmetal Alchemist microsite next week (awaiting approval). All the info you seek will be posted there. The big flashy content-rich site will be up closer to launch of the show on Adult Swim.

We have a cool cameo planned for the Samurai 7 dub. Can't say more about it. No, it is not a pizza cat.

We have been very satisfied with Case Closed.

1. The songs on Fullmetal Alchemist will not be dubbed. What you heard was just rumor. There were several factors that made us decide on not doing the dub for the songs.

2. The closing themes on Adult Swim will be the same as the Japanese release. The run lengths for the opening and closing will likely change.
Thank you for answering, those were the answers I was hoping for :)

1. What was up with you guys having One Piece at one time?

2. Naruto... what's the deal, man?

3. Any chance you guys wanna delve into Kamen Rider?
1. It's complicated. I'll leave it at that.

2. What is this Naruto? Never heard of it. Is it a mahou shoujo comedy?

jk

There is no status. That's all I can say.

[dodges a shuriken thrown by a frustrated fanboy]

3. Asks my Yoda magic 8 ball. No. I feel this will be.

Farscape rules.

Don't trouble the poor guy with your tokatatsu needs John... Though I'd love to see that as well AND Sailor Moon.

1) You guys interested in Hunter X Hunter? It seems odd that no one has licensed it yet and it seems right up your alley. But I assume you might be waiting until YYH is done or at least in it's final stretch.

2) How are you localizing Kodocha?

3) Any word on releasing One Piece?

4) Did you guys persuade 4kids into letting you release uncut verisons of YGO and Shaman King or did they see the demand for them and come to you?

5) What merchandising plans do you have for FMA within the next year?
1) We know it's popular.

2) We are taking it one line count at a time. We have medications lined up for the translater, script supervisor, ADR director, voice actress and DVD subtitler. The motor-mouth, mile-a-minute production process will soon begin.

3) Can't say.

4) Uncut releases were talked about for a while and the current market conditions made this feel like the right time for release.

5) You better start saving your money right now.

err, I have two more questions

1) Do you have any vauge idea of when the sublicence for DragonBall: The Emporer Pilaf saga will be dropped

2) Are the Sayin and Namek saga's going to be released in box sets or starter sets

And the one that I would Really Really Really like to know

3) Are there ever going to be saga sets for Dragonball GT

1) Does FUNimation have any plans on (at least partly) funding their own anime?

2) How complicated is it, really, to release full-length versions of your dubbed songs, even as mp3s on the web? (I really want a full-length version of the first Case Closed/Detective Conan theme, as the English version is MUCH better than the Japanese version.)

...

 • If it was the first new century in 100 years, and I felt that I should cry, should I laugh away my tears?
 • It another time and place, scattered all over space, have you found them all, have you found them Dragonballs?
 • Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, never running from a real fight, have you seen the one named Sailor Moon?
 • "Toonami, starting Saturday, April 17th, from 7 to 11 PM. Long live the fighters..."
Translation...
 • Case Closed: Why translate the names when it's aiming for the 14+ crowd on Adult Swim that can deal with those kooky Japanese names?
 • Ever catch the other dubs of Dragonball Z and GT?
 • Is my FUNiMoon theory completely off-base? Sailor Moon's essentially pulled from America, the dub is one of the most bashed, and FUNimation made a huge success out of Toei's other big series, Dragonball Z. This could be FUNimation's chance to shine for those burned by DiC, Cloverway, and others...
 • All Toonami shows moved to once-a-week airings with a supposedly older demographic. Has this had any effect on the editing FUNimation makes for shows for Toonami?

Since I haven't seen these specific questions:

1) Are you and Cartoon Network in negotiations for a new season of Case Closed on Adult Swim? (I hope so. I've enjoyed the Conan series so far and would like to see more of it.) The stories keep conflicting about whether the CN/AS people want any more Conan episodes for AS.

2) If CC didn't continue with new episodes on Adult Swim, would it have a chance in Cartoon Network's primetime hours or as a Toonami show? Or would its murderous nature make the show unacceptable to CN for the preteen crowd it targets outside of Adult Swim? (^_*)

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, Lance. :)

And yes... Farscape, PWNS.

Soon... The PeaceKeeper Wars!!!

Here's a question:

Does anyone out there in "the industry" have an interest in that live-action Sailor Moon?

Thanks for all the questions you've answered Lance. It's good to know that FUNi wants the questions asked.

Now, I do have a question regarding this announcement yesterday. Is this combining with ADV Films and Geneon for the sole purpose of getting more Anime titles from rivals like BANDAI, or is it to give 4Kids a run for their money in the kids department? Also, who will end up doing the DVD releases for these joint properties, or is this a possible sign of a merger with these 2 companies? Finally, will all these properties be Anime that the 3 of you get, or will there also be some original made shows? Thanks.

Both Karl and I can give you the answer to the first question. No one screws up aniem betetr then the Japanese themselves. The name changes in the dub were insisted upon by the Japanese company uncharge of the franchise. They wanted it to be as "american" as possible. I guess they don't think Americans like Japanese names or something.

And now, for a question. Does FUNImation see the future of anime being on an anime-only cable network or do you see anime branching out into a more mainstream audience, say on NBC or CBS during their prime-time blocks?

Hey Lance,

Do you think Funimation will have the Yu Yu Hakusho: Eizou Hakusho (OVA) for US release?

Questions: (To Do With Nelvana)

Do you guys plan on releasing any other shows from Nelvana?
How many DVDs a year for Braceface and Moville Mysteries will you release?

1. Is Funimation looking into getting the first series of Yu-Gi-Oh! made by Toei animation?

2. Will Funimation be replacing the music in the remaining DBZ movies?

I handle our properties like Fruits Basket, Kiddy Grade, Spiral, Fullmetal Alchemist and others.
Please, read throughout the thread before asking questions.

Ok, you guys are my fav dubbing company, love ya all, and I have to ask a vague question that means nothing now but may mean something in the future...So BE READY!!

Any chance of FUNimation being interested in dubbing video game anime? Like...recent series...that arn't over...but when it is...I don't think you can answer this question, but I'm just prepping for the future.

Shouldn't we let Lance finish answering the current questions before piling new ones on? That way he'll at least be able to address what everyone asks.
