Does anyone know exactly how the standard animation process for a TV series (US show) actually is? I know they send their stuff overseas, but what do they send exactly? Just the storyboards? The layouts? The timing sheets? Do they draw key poses as well? Or do the animators overseas draw everything?

I’ve heard it’s different between studios or even shows. Some will just send clean storyboards while others will send layouts.
Timing and x-sheets would be a must to ensure things are as close to what the director wants. Plus the more thorough the instructions are for the animation team, the less mistakes will be made since they’re limited in how many retakes are allowed.

But yeah, when it comes to making the character’s move, that’s outsourced. Everything else (backgrounds, character designs, storyboarding) is done at the main studio(s).
