So, I just found out about these DVD's that Amazon got the rights to make last year. They only play in certain players (Because they're DVD-R's). They have no bonus features, Rocko is out of order (But, it's a "Best of" set so I guess it doesn't have to be), Rocko has some edits, and Danny Phantom is missing episodes.

I know this is old news to many, but I just found out about it and I wondered if anyone has these sets or wanted to discuss them. What edits does Rocko have and are they worth the price? Sorry if this is already a thread.

I think this thread will be fine, it can give people the chance to talk about any of the Amazon.com burn-on-demand DVDs they may have or would like to get.

For me, I have the 1st and 2nd season sets of Rugrats, Doug and Hey Arnold!. They all play in every DVD player in my house, on my computer and in my brother's PS3. To me, the video and audio are good. There are no specials, but I really just want them to watch the episodes. Plus, since they are made directly for you, there are no previews or extra stuff to sit through before you can start watching them. When you put the DVD in, it goes straight to the menu (a very basic one too).

I don't plan on getting the Rocko ones. I rather wait for a season set to come out (if that ever happens).

I have all the Danny Phantom DVDs that have come out so far. The only missing episodes are in Season Two, where thirteen whole episodes are missing: "The Fenton Menace" through "Kindred Spirits".

I consider that a crime because the second half of Season Two grows the beard for the series. It's the most complex, character developing, story-driven, beautifully animated, meaty portion of all the DP seasons. I do hope they bring a fourth DVD that completes this, even if they have to call it the "lost episodes" or something.

As for playability, they work perfectly fine in my DVD player, but struggles on my computer's DVD drive. It works once in a blue moon for the latter. Though Amazon did warn that certain players can't work the DVDs, I half-suspect it may be my sluggish computer - it has trouble playing regular DVDs.

I REALLY REALLY want the second season of Rugrats, BUT THIRTY DOLLARS FOR THIRTEEN EPISODES?! Nick is just taking advantage of us!

Yes, I know how expensive it is to do burn-on-demand...
so why not just RELEASE RUGRATS IN STORES? It was just as popular as Spongebob is, perhaps more!

I have so many devices that play DVDs in my house so I'm not worried about a player for them. I don't understand why the price is so steep on the Rocko sets ($25 for half a season), but I've been wanting a legit release of this show for years now. Hey Arnold! would be pretty sweet too. I would be all over the Danny Phantom sets if they weren't missing episodes!

It's disappointing there are no special features though. I would love commentary on Rocko.

No way. Rugrats was popular, but it never even came close to the pop-culture phenomena and $8 billion dollars worth of merchandise SpongeBob brings in.

It also made a decent amount in merchandise. No, it wasn't Spongebob popular, but it was definitely popular enough to warrant a retail DVD set. I have feeling a lot these 90's shows of our (assuming everyone else was kids during the airings of these shows) will be a long wait. The same kind of wait fans of 80's cartoons deal with.

Rocko is even worse. It's close to $50 to get the two Rocko sets, which together have the 13 episodes from season 1.

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm almost willing to get them though. I've been dying for some Rocko's Modern Life after it left Nicktoons TV.

They're pretty expensive for DVD-R's with simple menus, no extras, and occasional missing episodes but at least the Nicktoons are getting some sort season releases and there aren't any previews. But what's with RML and Jimmy Neutron getting "Best Of"s only? I want to get them but I only want to support full seasons instead of another thirty-something bucks for a fraction of a season. Same goes for the supposed season sets of DP. I'll pick up Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, and Fairly Odd Parents eventually.

So far I have the first season of Doug, and was waiting for them to release the last seasons before I invested more money. They seem be ignoring/avoiding doing that, what's the holdup? Instead, they just keep adding new series - that's fine, but I wish they'd finish what they started at least!

I kind of want the Rugrats sets but I would rather buy them in stores.

Are you kidding? Back in the day, Rugrats was EVERYWHERE. They had three theatrical films, video games, (very cheaply made) toys, books, clothing, and several Burger King kids meal endorsements. Also, why do you think Nick ordered so many new Klasky-Csupo cartoons to be made? (Klasky-Csupo is the studio who made Rugrats) Rugrats even had a spinoff called 'All Grown Up' they were the biggest thing to children since Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers and the highest rated children's program at that time.

Of course, they're all but forgotten now that Spongebob has come along.
I am sure that once his popularity dies down, and Nick finds a new cartoon cash-cow they will milk it for all its worth, and kick Spongebob to the curb, just like they did with their other big franchises, Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy.

Anyway, back on-topic. I'd love to get the Doug, Rugrats and Rocko sets, but i'm out of $$$$ atm.

I'd love for Hey Dude and Salute your Shorts to get sets as well.

(And Weinerville, Eureeka's Castle and Nick Arcade. But i'm not gonna hold my breath for those to get released)

I'd love to get some Hey Arnold, but the sets are really overpriced. Especially since they are only DVD-R's. Hopefully the price will drop sometime soon.

I had both Rocko DVDs. It couldn't play on my computer, although it played on TV.

Can't say these were worth it. In addition to it being overpriced, some of the episodes were edited (including the milk machine scene in that one episode).

I later sold both on eBay. Strangely I got lots of bids for it. The show really needs a better DVD release.

They actually just dropped the price for Hey Arnold! from $35.49 to $31.99. Then they brought it back up, and as of now they dropped it back down again.

I just wish they would release seasons 3 and 4 of Doug. It's time to finish it up.

Amazon has a habit of doing this. If anyone is going to buy it, take the lower price. Or you can be patient and wait an untold amount of years until they're old enough to have their prices dropped a good ten to fifteen bucks later; though for barebones DVDs like these, I only recommend it for the hardcore or people with the general mindset that Nickelodeon will never go beyond this.
