Am I the only one who finds it weird that the trope Half-Dressed Animals has been lampshaded a lot and the trope Barefoot Funny Animals has never been lampshaded?

I've seen plenty of animated series and movies featuring the former that has other people, including the character with the former trope themselves, commenting on that character not wearing any pants, while the latter doesn't have anyone commenting about that character with the latter trope not wearing any shoes. The closest I've seen to lampshading the latter was when the characters wiggle their toes, which was in The Berenstain Bears' Christmas Tree special and The Amazing World Of Gumball.

I just have that feeling that the latter has been lampshaded, but I haven't seen nor heard of it so far.

Am I the only one who wonders how people are getting away with saying “Happy New Year!” without anyone slapping them in the face?

It’s insensitive to all those religions and cultures that use a lunar calendar.

I’ve never met anyone who is actually bothered by it. In fact I’ve heard the opposite. But I would hate to pass up an opportunity to cause trouble where there wasn't any and tell everyone that something they have been cheerfully doing all their lives is wrong and they should feel bad about it.

So let’s all just greet each other this time of the year with a hardy “Merry time period after that night we all stay up late.” Or, if that’s too wordy try a “Cheerful Day After!” ;) (I insist you do the wink if you use that one.)

Holy crap, the war on New Year's Eve has begun! This day was foretold. Form a human shield around the Baby New Year! Fortify our champagne and fireworks stockpiles! And for God's sake, someone notify Gretchen Carlson!

Am I the only one who thinks "kindle fire" sounds less like an electronic gadget and more like a Digimon attack?

goggle-headed kid: "Go get him, Librarimon!"

Librarimon: "Kindle Fire!" [Shoots fireball out of electronic reading gadget it's holding]

Am I the only one that thinks College is a complete waste of time (and money), especially If you're undecided?

A lot of people think that, but they're wrong about it. College graduates generally make at least $300,000 more over their lifetime than a non college grad, adjusted for inflation.

http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2008/10/30/how-much-is-that-college-degree-really-worth

Average college cost is still about $36,000/$40,000 for four years at a public university, and if you get scholarships you can lessen that.

http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2010/08/24/the-average-cost-of-a-us-college-education

Still a net gain, so not a waste of time.

And beyond dollars and cents, there are studies that show that college grads have more job satisfaction and lead healthier lives.

We don't all hate Christmas trees. I happen to like them a lot.
But bring a tree into your home and glitter bomb it any other time of the year and people think you've gone cuckoo.

Well, if starting a war curries any favor with the god Mars, that will be real handy when it comes time to smite my enemies.

Am I the only person who isn't too proud to buy CDs to this day, even if I may not buy them as much these days? See, the last new album I ever got was back in 2009 when it was released, and later on I got a re-issue of an older album (three of them in fact) in that same year. There's even a re-issue that got released last year that's of an older album that I plan to get. Even so, I'd still buy a new CD if it's that compelling, as opposed to just downloading it or something. The CDs I'm most likely to get these days though, are the kind you see at Bed Bath and Beyond, with the Oriental music and all that.

Also, has anyone besides me felt the most sorry for the victims of horror movies that have gotten killed while naked? Especially the females?

No, I still buy discs. My car has a CD player, and pressed discs sound much better than burned ones (the volume always gets messed up somehow if I use itunes).

Well, after 4 1/2 years since I graduated college, I'm still in the exact same job I was in while I was in college. I've interviewed a good five or six times for the position above mine WITHIN the company, and I still haven't been able to get squat. I would've been better off not having to pay back $25,000 to the government.

It's hard to tell, I could go with yes and no. Technical school could be use as an alternatives for a group of peoples.

I spotted a interesting rant posted on City-Data forums http://www.city-data.com/forum/detr...ng-something-about-blight-4.html#post22286287 by a guy nicknamed "movestoomuch" then I decided to quote:

I think this is the NUMBER ONE thing ALL cities should concentrate on. Education and training. If a child cannot read up to the grade level - hold them back in the grade until they can catchup. It does no one any favors to let them advance just to get further and further behind. I can ony imagine how difficult it must be for these kids (?) to try to figure any other class out if they can't read the directions!

REMOVE the stigma of being held back. It may sting the 'parents' ego a bit if their child is held back -- but in the long run it will help the child succeed in the end.

I'm also a big proponent of technical schools. Whether they be for cosmotology, dental assisting, computers, food services, graphic design, etc. Not everyone is cut out for the college grind. And many children don't have parents at home to help them learn the skills they need to achieve a high enough ACT or SAT score to get into college. Not to mention being able to pay for continuing education.

EDUCATION is key. Our schools are antiquated (the entire nation's) and need to be revamped. Not fancy - but better suited to the needs of a changing world around us.

I still prefer buying CDs. Sure, I purchase the occasional song from iTunes here and there, but if I want an entire album I buy the CD. I still have to get most of them from Amazon, but frankly I miss going into music stores. You could find so much stuff just from browsing. I still go to the FYE that's in the mall, but they tend to only carry the most current or popular things, so sometimes I come away empty handed. But yeah, as long as physical CDs are still produced, I will continue to buy them over Digital Downloads every time.

Am I the only one freaked out by how closely that kid from "The Middle" resembles Dewey from "Malcolm in the Middle" ten years ago? He looks EXACTLY THE SAME. It's freaky!

In fact, "The Middle" is almost the exact same title, written in almost the exact same font. And Patricia Heaton resembles Jane Kazmareck too.....I don't really watch the show, so I can't tell if it's a COMPLETE ripoff, but from a distance it looks like one.

The enormous debt is too much of a burden for people to start out with.
Causes too much pressure to be an instant success.
A degree is a great bone to throw the human resource people. A good work history like that will count in your favour too.

One is the wacky kids perspective and the other is from a more domestic mother perspective.
The Middle is ok, but doesn't quite reach Malcolm levels of fun.

I don't know if I ever liked Dewey much. Brick has grown on me though.

Am I the only one who thinks that they can survive an apocalypse but knows deep down that they would be one of the first ones to go?

Is it just me, or does anyone think that the whole "world-ending-in-2012" phenomenon is just overblown?

I mean yes, the planets will align on December 21, but NASA and the Mayans have confirmed it doesn't mean the end of life as we know it.

Definitely overblown, just like the Y2K hype. However, this article says there is no planetary alignment set for December 21. There is something about the sun crossing in front of the plane of the galaxy (whatever that is) on the 21st, but it's something that already happens twice a year anyway.

Yeah, I knew it was overblown since the get-go. But I never thought that the planet's weren't aligning.

Guess you can chalk that up on me not exploring the internet thoroughly enough.

It's the older songs (from decade '00 and before) that I'm more likely to download, since it's cheaper than buying their whole album. There were a lot of older songs that I liked, and back in 2002 I started looking into downloading older songs and burning them to discs. It would have been cheaper than buying all the albums they're on. Plus I could keep them for permanent.

Count me in as part of the camp that thinks it's overblown. I have someone at my job who talks about this crap all the time and it annoys the living hell out of me.

You know, I still marvel at that whole Y2K issue. When people thought computers would go all haywire and cause all sorts of chaos. Then of course 2000 rolled around smoothly just like every other year did. The power didn't go out, no planes crashed, water was still running, toilets were still flushing. All that panic. For nothing. I think of this every time a new year is coming.

Am I the only one who thinks the swear censor is too sensitive?

I mean I was working on my user title
Thinking up nonsense
To say something about my avatar
Not looking to create offense

Is it Fish?
Or Flash?
Flash as a Fish?

Don’t know
used my title to ask “is that legit?”
Oh, no!
Why’d I have to get hippity hoppity with it?

Caused the swear censor to flip
It’s not something I planed
It’s not something I wished
The swear censor’s got a dirty mind
I got caught when I miss rhymed
But it made it x10 funnier as an unintentional slip

But I suppose if I just stuck to "real" words that wouldn't happen.
I'll have to re***ess my use of language.

To celebrate the fact that I got three weeks off from work for rest, I watched today the latest installment in the separate Minions series of movies. What I loved was the unique logo variation of the Universal logo, which was akin to the plot taking place in the late 1800s

Not everything from DC and Marvel comics needs to be more like the adaptations.
