why keep stuff around that can hurt you??
Probably so that someone could stop him if he ever went rogue or was brainwashed. Plus if those weapons can hurt him they can also hurt people that are stronger than him, such as when he used the gravity gun on Lex.

I wasn't crazy about this one. I don't know, it was a little bland, and slightly too sentimental. And I really didn't like Lois. I thought her design was generic looking, and her character was very dull. She didn't have much personality like Lois usually does. And I also thought Clark was under-developed.

The best part of the film was Lex Luthor, imo. He was cool and the voice actor was really good, but unfortunately the rest of the movie wasn't as well done. Plus I really liked the two Kryptonians who take over Earth. I thought they're characters were cool and well written, until the part when they were "dying", and the corny phantom zone scene, which ruined them for me. But there was some cool scenes w/ them and Superman.

Jimmy in drag :) was a plus, and the Parasite scene was really cool too.

But overall I think it felt inconsistant, I thought the characters felt under-developed, and it was just too sentimental and almost corny at times. I don't know where I'd rank it, but I really hope we get another Wonder Woman or Green Lantern: FF calibar film SOON.

Jimmy in drag :) was a plus...

I loved the movie, but yeah, I've been meaning to ask... what was that all about?

Was Jimmy really undercover and messing with Steve Lombard or was he really in drag?

That wasn't in the comic, but It seems like Jimmy experimented with fashion trends (like he did later with the Kryptonian clothes), so I'm wondering if his tranvestite dress was just another example of that.

In the comic, he also had the "For A Day" Sunday column that was very popular. I assumed that was what the drag was referring to.

Hmmm, I forgot about that. I really do need to break out and re-read this series again.
That bit of info was from the start of Episode 4 "The Superman/Jimmy Olsen War!" which was cut from the material used in the movie.

It happens more often then you might think.

Synopsis for "Miss Jimmy Olsen!"

While at work at the Daily Planet, Jimmy gets a call from Lucy Lane asking Jimmy to watch her dog Hamlet while she takes on a job for her airline when a co-worker of hers falls sick. Superman meanwhile goes off to his Fortress of Solitude in order to conduct some experiments, telling Jimmy that he won't be able to be reached.
That night Jimmy is out in midtown Metropolis when he spots ex-racketeer "Big Monte" McGraw who is suspected of being involved in a jewel heist recently. Jimmy decides to try and find evidence of the jewel heist and comes up with the idea of posing as a girl and getting a job in the chorus line at the theater that McGraw owns.

Coming up with the identity of Julie Ogden, Jimmy manages to get the job working in the chorus line. When McGraw pays special interest in "Ogden" Jimmy tells him that he is new in town and McGraw insists that "Julie" live with his girlfriend Maisie. Coincidentally Maisie lives in the same apartment building as Lucy Lane, making it easy for Jimmy to check on Lucy's dog and maintain his charade. Jimmy is introduced to Maisie's pet monkey Dora and is then ordered to cook supper.

When "Julie" ruins supper, Jimmy quickly covers by going over to Lucy's apartment to get what she thinks is hamburger and prepares a meal. As Maisie is sleeping, Jimmy snoops around the apartment to find the stolen jewels. The next morning when Lucy returns home she knocks on Maisie's door and asks if they have any pet food as her dog is starving and it turns out that there is no food left in the house. Overhearing this "Julie" becomes horrified as she realizes that what "she" cooked for supper was not hamburger, but dog food.

As his charade continues, Jimmy becomes the object of McGraw's affections much to the displeasure of Maisie. One night when McGraw attempts to get "Julie" to kiss him, Jimmy quickly gets Dora to plant a wet one on McGraw who is too busy in the moment with his eyes closed to realize he's kissing an ape. When going out on dates with McGraw yields no results, "Julie" feigns illness to search Maisie's apartment again. When McGraw hears that "Julie" is sick he decides to pay her a visit. Catching "Julie" going through the apartment, McGraw pulls a gun out and demands to know what's going on. It's at that moment McGraw finally notices that "Julie" has an Adams-apple and uncovers Jimmy's true identity. However, before McGraw can shoot Jimmy, Dora comes up from behind with a baseball bat and knocks McGraw out.

Later, when McGraw is turned over to the police, Jimmy and Superman go over the apartment one more time and find the stolen loot: each diamond was stuck onto a fan with pieces of gum. The reason Jimmy never noticed them before is because the fan was always running. Back at the Daily Planet, Jimmy's coworkers chide Jimmy for dressing up as a girl, however since he landed such a sensational scoop he takes it all on stride.

Synopsis for "Jimmy Olsen's Female Fan!"

The president of the Jimmy Olsen Fan Club moves away, and Jimmy declares the others must choose a new president by competition, with exhibits. Then he masquerades as the first female applicant to the club, passes initiation, and is apparently chosen “president” by Jimmy. But Tommy Todd sees through her imposture, and is thus chosen as president by Jimmy.

Synopsis for "The Day They Unmasked Mr. Action"

Jimmy Olsen and the police commissioner of Metropolis concoct a ruse that smokes out a criminal in disguise.

Ahh ha... Awesome! So that was just another eaxample of Morrison, or in the case of the movie, McDuffie, drawing influence from the Silver Age era of Superman comics. Cool. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy is in a dress for a panel or two in that fourth issue. But really, I just took it as an extreme shorthand that Jimmy's life is, if anything, even stranger on average than Superman's, and the fact that this stuff doesn't even faze him is one reason why he gets to hang with the Man of Steel. When you get turned into turtles or cavemen, time travel to the distant past and the far-flung future, hit up alternate dimensions or parallel timelines, and have girlfriends that are aliens, mermaids, or alien mermaids, it'll take a lot more than just wearing a dress and heels to warrant even a raised eyebrow.

This is even on display elsewhere in the movie. When the sun is turning blue and the sky is red at night and a megalomaniacal madwoman is rampaging through Metropolis, Jimmy and Lois do not have the sane reaction and run. She gets her pad and he gets his camera and they start walking towards the crazy teen. That's just how they roll. I always thought that was a subtle but really effective way to communicate who Jimmy and Lois are and why Superman likes having them as his friends.

The fact that they didn't address the whole Jimmie in a dress thing is one of the things that bothered me about this movie. That and not explaining who some of the characters were. It really brought the movie down.

If it was explained it wouldn't have worked as a gag, and also what Ed said.

You don't need to weigh down the movies with lengthy exposition.

Quintim? Smart good guy scientist with a moonbase. Check.

Samson and Atlas? Time travelling strongmen and jerk rivals for Superman. Check.

Jimmy in a dress? Doing an undercover story and giving a flip answer -- and lying through his teeth -- to Steve. Check.

Solaris? Old cosmic enemy of Superman who operates as explained in the film. Check.

Enough is told that the narrative is clear without reducing its pace. What more did you need to know for the film to work?

My problems with AS-SM have to do with the sudden deus ex machina of the Kryptonians conveniently losing their powers, the "I haven't any mercy left" scene for Solaris, the instant disappearance of the Kryptonified Metropolis after Bar-el's defeat, Lex getting time accelerated with the gravity ray but not getting crushed by its residual effects when the superpowers wear off (which admittedly was a refrigerator logic error) than lack of comprehension about the characters.

I loved this Feature, the animation was spectacular, the voice casting and acting was superb, but I think the thing I loved most was the music. The Music was beautiful, I would love a soundtrack from this.
Anyways, nice job to all who were involved in making this awesome DTV! now gives us some more Superman DTVs please! ;)

I agree about the music being great. It was definitely one of the best scores yet for these DTV's. I especially like the theme for the Zod- and Ursa-like Kryptonian couple.

I know I really want more lets hope the next one we get isnt one where its not an origin story (not that I'd be against one but I'd prefer just a Superman story) or one where Superman is dying

Wasn't Jimmy voiced by the guy who plays Spencer Reed on Criminal Minds? He sounded exactly like him.

How are DVD sales so far? I already know how did in its first release.

According to the-numbers.com, $3,686,722. Note that the-numbers.com doesn't track Blu-Ray and On-Demand sales. I read that more than half of the moved units were Blu-Ray.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
