Before anyone asks:
Yes, the film has a reference to a certain viral video involving the original cartoon.

Overall, very solid movie with a great balance of empathy and machismo. A bit like the original show, but dialled way up with a sweeping self-awareness of that version.

Adam might have been dorky and a little underprepared, but he had heart and he had a mind, he went in with a mission to be understood and it's nice to see he found people who did so easily, a refreshing change of pace.

Leto was terrerfic as Skeletor, I wish some of his minions had more lines besides Evil-Lyn. This Skeletor reminded me the most of New Adventures and 2002 era versions. He does'nt quite nail the laugh though. Anyone who's seen Money Supermarket UK ads wouldn't find the dream scenes in human resources all that out of place. That would so happen on television over here. Same humour.

Duncan's journey was the best story told in the film, his fixation on how a man should function wasn't quite deconstructed and it was sound advice to Adam, but learning to better himself came gradually the more Adam was around him and restoring his faith that you can pick yourself up, and to help others pick themselves up when they fail.

Teela was pretty useless, sorry, not gonna lie. She complained non-stop about her dad and seemed pretty bored around Adam, I didn't feel their 'friendship' all that closely, and the fact the sexual tension is cut short mid-movie meant she had little else to do. Even the girl who shoved Adam into lockers got more to do in the final fight than her.

They got Cringer's voice all wrong. And it was clear the budget couldn't afford him 'till very late.

Adam barely interacted with Randor for me to really care when he died, let alone the tragedy of him slipping away before Adam could say what he wanted. Marlena also only got a hug and we barely saw her react one way or another to losing her husband.

"I have the power" indeed. A cliche as old as cinematic time. And true of all of us,

The fight sequences were all on point and intense. Every toy on the assembly line in the playset. Exactly what you want.

Orko looked like he got a design super last minute, easily the worst effect in the film. But I predicted it would be a life lesson like Filmation and I got it.

People really overexaggerated how much camp there was in the film, the humour was fine and was paced well, it didn't domineer all that much.

it was very much a modern film but remembered everyone's allowed to grow balls too.

This really didn't work for me. It's not without merit; the costuming is on point and the production design is generally solid, the performances are fine and the opening and ending kind of work. The film is basically a step or two away from being a full blown parody adaptation in the vein of the Starsky & Hutch and the 21 Jump Street films. I don't necessarily have a problem with that, I can even see how that could be an effective way to bring the material into the 21st century. The crux is whether or not you find the humor funny, and boy oh boy did I find almost all of the jokes here to be stale and unfunny. Action isn't bad, but isn't unique enough to stand out, and the plotting, that which isn't immediately undercut by "zingers", is too generic to get involved in. It is one of the few modern (attempted) blockbusters to showcase a distinctive and exciting score, but it's not enough to save the film.
