General International TV Channels Thread

Sometimes I keep forgetting on how Discovery Channel moved to DTT replacing WarnerTV, lol

I guess that's why the Czech feed became Discovery overnight in all but name

Don't worry, Discovery is even making less audience that Warner TV did, it seems.
Time to turn that into Investigation Discovery! (/j)

I think the reason they did that was not because of HBO Max, but because people on terrestrial TV don't need US shows, only reality and true crime.

Investigation Discovery will give you all the true crime you want! (And Sky Crime would have a friend!)

Yeah, the FTA Italian WBD channels are finally back on Sky Italia. Frisbee and K2 are in SD on satellite, HD on Glass and Stream.
(No Eurosport for you though)

Here's the press release, Cartoon Network and Boomerang have also had their carriage extended, even though it only has been about five months since the mad panic of a carriage dispute.

They're also adding Discovery+ to Sky so... marriage relinked? Swan song before the Paramount merge?

Lately, Yes did a massive purge of channels from its satellite service. Although it's still operating on Dror, it will continue operating there until 2028. The priority is moving to STING+ which has the same "linear" line-up and uses Bezeq's fiber network.

15 years ago, today, a certain TV channel that nowadays lives rent free in my mind launched...
Happy birthday, Sony Spin! You were a mess that no one liked but it was an absolutely pretty one, whoever was behind the channel pres cooked too hard.

Also, since I had to look back the link on Setsumi's YT channel, you also get an extra. Get some Cosmopolitan TV LATAM idents from 2014!

And Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

So, Happy 62nd Birthday To TRT, The Turkish Radio And Television Corporation.

It reminds me of how AXN Spin CEE had a schedule extremely similar to the Animax one. Luckily I got to collect the schedules from its first days.
Generational fumble, the early AXN Spin was perfect. (Considering that Poland managed to also skip Animax, somehow, well, AXN Spin was the way that Sony picked for remedy, I feel... )

Sony Spin was universally hated in Latin America, because the otakus were pissed at the gradual removal of animes. When Animax added live-action content in 2008 (Reciclo, later live-action series and sundries from Sony-AXN such as Lost), there were more viewers calling the channel as Gringomax.

Well, I'm well aware of this. I always say that if I lived in LATAM and watched Locomotion first, Animax later, I would have hated Sony Spin.
But I live in Italy and got aware of Sony Spin in 2017, soo... And, let's be honest, the gorgeous presentation hides all the issues (in my eyes?)
(Also, it closed a cycle? Locomotion was half owned by Hearst, and to Hearst we went back, with Lifetime. How curious!)

Sony thought an all-anime channel wasn't sustainable because it was a niche, but the fans were against it.

They applied the same logic around the world as it was a global reface. We only got live-action content in October 2009, starting in limited quantities with movies, then the flood gates opened.

in country where i live, Converge did a similar move, by discontinuing traditional cable TV service in all services (such as Air Cable) in favor of Converge Vision/FiberTV (now marketed as SkyTV).

Well, I think the OG AXN Spin formula was more balanced, where anime and live action could actually co-exist. But even that fell and became AXN... 2!
(And yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Antenna ends to close it at one point, no ideas where go with that, even with the further Network Decay they threw on that. I just hope they do that after the 15th anniversary...)

So I guess Sony never operated any linear TV channels directly serving the Nordic countries (outside of the Sony One family of FAST channels available on LG and Samsung smart TVs). Is that correct?

Right, no idea why they skipped the Nordics and France. As they had at least one channel for the rest of Europe...

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
