General International TV Channels Thread

MCM today is airing a bunch of episodes of Pokémon XY (Gulli reruns) and a bunch of Syfy-ish low-budget creature features

The only reality show they have is Shopping Queens from the main M6 channel (?)

The channel is suffering from "terminal channel problems", because it's airing programs from other channels that the group has the rights to

There are tons of these around the world. Think of how Eska TV started and how it's now: Polsat Play-esque programming half the time.

Exactly. Although I've never wondered what MCM has become nowadays when it comes to its' content, I used to have French channels on my Polish cable TV but I've only know MCM from the internet and how the channel used to be in the past.

How the mighty have fallen I would say.

Still no news on the fate of MCM Top and MCM Pop.

MCM Pop became RFM TV but only in France. I remember that on the day of the changeover, it still carried the RFM TV launch filler, and, according to eyewitness accounts on Portuguese forums of the time, part of the launch show, but it was blocked and later Lagardère had to create a skeleton feed of MCM Pop instead.

Here In Türkiye, The Skeleton Feed of MCM Pop Didn't Carried As It Is A Portugal Exclusive Channel,
But RFM TV Was Carried On The Tivibu Platform Following The Closure of MCM Pop.
And It Was Continued To Carry Until Tivibu Removed RFM TV To The IPTV and Go Lineups Possibly In 2019.

Yeah, as long as I'm aware, TVC's channels had the second audio track. Justified for the kids channel too because of the high volume of imports.

I think a lot of Spanish channels do also have secondary audio tracks due to imports and the high amount of British tourists holidaying in Spain as well.

I recall Neox having one when I was in Barcelona in 2015
Sure, I didn't watch a lot of TV there

I've also noticed that by the time Zone Romantica became CBS Drama, the Latin American telenovelas had completely disappeared.

Tangentially related:

I think Portugal is the only major romance country to exclusively subtitle teen/adult media (I’m not counting languages like Catalan). Why is this? Brazil dubs everything after all. And no other Romance country does this.

Most British tourists though watch British channels and services anyway, especially (at least traditionally) via satellite :D

@RegularMan demographics, Portugal only has around 10 million inhabitants.
Dubbing everything costs.

In comparison, Romania has double the people

Because apparently kids don't know how to read subtitles.

We chose subtitles in the late 1930s (I guess) as, back in the days of the dictatorship, it was used as a means to safeguard the national film industry.

However, over time, seeing the Lion King effect, they started dubbing content for kids and some content for teen/adult audiences. But in cases like Friends as part of the October 1998 RTP 1 revision, it was backfired

Even I remember the dub of Two and a Half Men, which only aired on RTP 1 and lasted at least one season. RTP 2 aired the original version with subtitles. My dad used to watch it

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
