"Sony Is Making A Ghostbusters Animated Movie For Netflix"

"According to various news sources, Sony is creating an animated Ghostbusters movie, and teaming up with Netflix to release the film. This animated film is in addition to a Ghostbusters animated series Sony is producing for Netflix. Kris Pearn is set to direct this film. Pearn has directed animated movies for Sony like “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2″ and has directed “The Willoughbys” movie for Netflix. Sony has declined to participate in the streaming wars and has acted as a content “arms dealer” for the major streaming services, so these Ghostbusters animated projects appearing on Netflix makes sense.

The plot remains unknown at this time; however, this film is set in the current live action Ghostbusters movie universe, with the original movie continuity from the 1980s being revived in the 2020s, with the films “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”. Sources state that some in Sony are hoping that this animated film will revitalize the Ghostbusters IP, similar to what the Spider-Verse animated films have done for the Spider-Man IP."

Not to be confused with the theatrical animated movie almost 3 years in development. That one was announced June 8, 2022 with directors Jennifer Kluska and Chris Prynoski and written by Brenda Hsueh. New characters. New take. Was a passion project of Ivan Reitman before his passing (previously there was an animated movie in the works from a ghost's POV reported back in 2015 but no word if this is the same thing or a new idea).

This Netflix animated movie is quite interesting food for thought. Is the Netflix animated series doing so well that Netflix wanted a movie i.e. as a aperitif. Like what if the animated series is in media res and the team(s) are already up and running like Real Ghostbusters was so an animated movie would reveal their origin story in full. Or it's a total stand alone story and its own thing.

3 GB animated projects after a drought of nearly 30 years. :)

"The Animated Ghostbusters Movie Still Lives…Sorta"

"Sony wants you to know they’re still trying to make an animated Ghostbusters movie happen! This project was announced a full ten years ago, in 2016. Talk about a slow animation process…are they completing one frame a month? No….they haven’t even gotten started. Sony is still trying to find the perfect script.

The latest news is that Sam Jarvis, writer of Dollface, has been hired to take the latest crack at the plot. She replaces previous script writers Yoni Brenner and Kristy Hall. No one knows how their script turned out but evidently not very well. As far as anyone knows, there has been no turnover in the position of director, so that’s still Kris Pearn, though I’d imagine Kris has little to do right now.

The 2016 announcement revealed a wholly different kind of plot, with the perspective being from the ghosts, not the busters. It’s unknown if that is still the premise; different writers want to try different things. Assuming the feature ever gets out of the development containment unit, it is part of Sony’s deal with Netflix and would debut there."

I guess ghostbusters frozen empire performance at the box office played a role in why that movie is taking too long to make

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
