The "For Portlanders Only" Update Thread

Thank you. But still, would you happen to know the approximate dates for them?

~Ben
I wish. There's no way to precisely tell, especially with the ten-minute one. You can only get clues from within the recording itself. Sometimes ads can help; if an ad runs for something airing that evening or later that week, you can look it up in an old TV schedule. I can only tell the ten minute one is from 1983 because there's a recording of something right after it that's also from 1983, and Chuck E didn't appear any earlier.

The hour-long one said "April 1984" on its label, so that was helpful. Nothing in the broadcast narrowed it down from there though.

I can personally vouch for Peter's statement, someone uploaded highlights from a February 8th 1984 episode of Ramblin Rod which contains the aforementioned Chuck E. Cheese's characters:

(For the record, the cartoons included in that broadcast were What's Brewin', Bruin?, Beaus Will Be Beaus, Cross Country Detours, Kittens' Mittens and the 1960 Popeye cartoon Rip Van Popeye)

One time in 1983, KOIN preempted Nightwatch in favor of doing their Technical Adjustments and Maintenance

Something interesting for Pete (and others in Portland area)
weeknights at 5:30-6pm on channel 10 - "ambient film." I doubt it'll be on for much longer, so go check it out while it's still airing!

You know you're from Salem when you call Willamette Town Center "Lancaster Mall." There's a reason for that...

Jeff Gianola is retiring. He co-hosted the special about Bob the Weather Cat dying. That's how long he's been around.

I think that in those situations they undusted the regular sign-off. For years (1998 to 2017), stations of the Globo network in Brazil still did a conventional sign-off listing the schedule, once a month on the early hours of Monday morning

Where is the FPO page? I found an old one but the videos weren't working.

For the record, the old one used to run on FLV and WMV.

The new one (since 2015) uses MP4.

John Marler and Cathy Marshall (they of Peter's Forbidden Cartoon) segueing into a simulcast of KOMO during the 1999 Seattle protests:

Jeff Gianola's final broadcast is this Wednesday if you want to tape it.

Here he is in 1989.

Grant McOmie has died. He was 74.

Am wondering why KATU started news a half-hour early at 3:30pm today.

To celebrate the fact that I got three weeks off from work for rest, I watched today the latest installment in the separate Minions series of movies. What I loved was the unique logo variation of the Universal logo, which was akin to the plot taking place in the late 1800s

Nicktoons in the US has recently aired something that no one expected: an AI generated ad for an overpriced plush toy.
Not everything from DC and Marvel comics needs to be more like the adaptations.
