Yes, the first, original script titled "Ghost Smashers." In the future (well then it was 1981/82 and the future in that script was 2012), there were several branches of the Ghostbusters, they had a friendly competition with each other, had tech that allowed them to travel between dimensions.

It's still in full development, says Gil Kenan.

FYI, spoilers for Frozen Empire. Kenan talks about the animated series at the end and says
I just watched an entire art presentation for the show. I’ve seen the sets and the environments, and I just saw my first glimpse at a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team. All I can say is the work is being done as we speak. It’s in what we call full development. Scripts are being written, art is being created, and it’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.

Great get, a Daily Show and MST3K alum. A little apprehensive about "3D animated series will be tonally in line with the recent “Ghostbusters” films" but we'll see. I'm happy the show got over a major hurdle and is greenlit. When this comes out it'll probably be almost 30 years since the previous animated series, Extreme Ghostbusters in 1997. Wild.

I don't know what canon this new show will be in, or if it will be "Ecto-Force", but everyone should know that this will be a "Netflix Kids and Family" series, meaning this will be no different from the previous two animated shows.

Also, in that fan art picture I saw, "Eddie Spencer" (from Filmation's shows*), and "Ray Stantz"'s positions should be switched. Just saying.

*"Shows" because Filmation had previously made "The Ghost Busters" in the 1970s, which features the fathers of the ones from the animated show. This live-action show was at least part of the reason why the Columbia Television/DIC series couldn't just call itself "Ghostbusters: The (Animated) Series", although the French dub was able to simply call itself "S.O.S. Fantômes", the same name that was used for the French dub of the movie.

Being on Netflix, or for that matter being an children's animated series in the present day, means it won't be bound by ABC's content mandates or the long-defunct Filmation's whole setup.

If it can be as good as past Ghostbusters cartoons, that'll be a win :).

"Netflix’s Ghostbusters Cartoon Is A Go"

"Two years ago Netflix and Sony announced they were working together on making some kind of new Ghostbusters cartoon. We don’t think there was ever any doubt an animated streaming show based on a popular IP was going to happen, but today was the day Netflix confirmed the cartoon has been greenlit and is moving to full production.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about this. The final title is unlikely to be just plain “Ghostbusters,” but it hasn’t been revealed (or possibly decided). We also don’t know which period of the franchise it’s basing itself around, but according to Variety, it’s highly likely to be a continuation of the most recent sequels, Afterlife and Frozen Empire.

What we do know is who’s been put in charge. Elliott Kalan, who most recently wrote for the new seasons of MST3K and The Daily Show before that, has been hired as showrunner. Also, the animation will be CG."

looking at flying bark show catalog, I say this show will fit well with this animation style

It's also fitting an Australian studio is animated this series, as the lead designer on the previous animated series Extreme Ghostbusters as from Australia and their animation studio was seemingly named after the city he was from Adelaide.

Looking forward to the first look :).
I feel like this will be extremely important as I feel if they screw this up then it’s over for Ghostbusters

It's coming on 30 years since the last animated series but yes, the big caveat is that this series is in essentially in the same position The Real Ghostbusters was back in 1986 in keeping the property in the public sphere between live action movies and telling the studio this is a property worth keeping afloat and not retiring. The difference here is that it's not only one animated series but there's two animated movies also in development (and of the 3, 2 are streaming service releases).

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
