The Toonami Thread

Bakugan as the foundation of the successor to Toonami? Certainly not!

But Bakugan and other programs currently or formerly in the wake-up ghetto can pave the way. By moving such shows to the weekday afternoon period, 4-6 PM M-F, up or down an hour if necessary, it can serve as a proving ground for programs with continuity to gain a following at that time. Leave the block unlabeled for a time, just as it is in the mornings. As it settles in, new, better acquired and original shows can be brought in to the rotation. Worry about the packaging later.

If CN were to bring back Toonami, and if they were serious about it, it would most likely be either a weekday block or it's own channel. Preferably the latter. Both of CN's competitors have channels aimed at young adults (ABC Family and Teennick), but CN does not. There's Boomerang, but that's more like a companion channel.

As far as programming goes, I can think of at least ten shows off the top of my head that would be a good fit for the channel. But of course, it's all speculation.

While the idea of Toonami having its own channel sounds kind of cool, I don't think that Cartoon Network would consider doing something like that. There are quite a few shows that they probably don't have the rights to air anymore. Even with all of the shows Toonami aired in the past, I'm not sure if there would be enough to cover a whole channel. There would be expenses to acquiring new shows and/or reacquiring older shows, not to mention the money it takes to setup a new channel in the first place.

Besides that, I don't think that Cartoon Network is interested in appealing to the young adult audience or at least not nearly as much as they're interested in appealing to the twelve and under crowd.

Bakugan was on Toonami in 2008, it lasted one whole week.

Considering how Cartoon Network can't even treat one of their supposed flagship blocks properly, You Are Here, I wouldn't want Toonami back.

I'm happy Toonami got to say its goodbye while keeping some of its dignity.

I would only want to have Toonami back if the network gave it the respect and resources it deserves. And with the current administration, that's not going to happen.

You Are Here is a good block, Cartoon Network just needs to get new episodes of Batman and TSS underway again alongside Star Wars and Ben 10 and YAH should be back in good form. I hope once the new episodes end that CN decides to put Generator Rex and Bionic Titan on the block as well to keep new episodes going, but who knows. I wouldn't mind seeing Toonami back though, but only if CN aired good shows on it and didn't just add a bunch of current shows to the block, CN needs more anime......

Some people have been saying they have seen comercials saying it is returning next month, but i havent seen anything like that. Have you guys?

I can assure you, the entire forum would be on fire if this were true. :P Sorry.

The Toonami page on CartoonNetwork.com is gone. :(

They corrected the oversight then. Took them long enough. It's been over a year since the block left the airwaves and close to a year since it left the internet. They didn't need to keep a website for a block that's no longer on the air, you know.

Especially considering they let all of their anime licenses expire except Pokemon, Bakugan and Naruto (for now) along with many of their third party action shows leaving them basically with very few actiony shows to make a Toonami network from. Not that it couldn't be done... especially with some help but they're not going to do that.

Re: Toonami Thread (CN Toonami Spain Videos)

Thanks for posting the YT links about the Cartoon Network's Spain Toonami Videos.

All 3 of the videos, you have clips from shows which aired on Toonami around 2003-2004.

I thought all the Toonami pages were taken down, but the Kenshin page appears to have slipped through the cracks.

Well, that's not really much of anything, now is it? :P

I WISH we still had new episodes of Megas XLR every Saturday night @ 9.

LOL @ the Miguzi ad.

EDIT: In other news, there's at least one commercial for the Transformers 2 DVD that I saw on ABC during FlashForward that really reminded me of a Toonami promo due to Cullen's naration job. It was different than a usual commercial for the dvd.

Wow, I found some rare promos from back when Toonami was about to premiere on Youtube. It was cool to see those promos again after so many years.
You're talking *Moltar* type clips?

I'm calling you out: there's no way anything that early is up on Youtube.

Perhaps I should have specified: Anything that early that isn't already up on TDA. Only Youtube exclusive video I've seen is the Moltar era intro for the Thundercats here:

Wake me when something new gets posted, like the 'Villians' speech, or the original Voltron intro, or some of those interviews with pro skaters and the like.

Funny thing about those pre-TOM Moltar-era videos at the Arsenal (I would say TDA, but a lot of the noobs might confuse it with Total Drama Action, which currently has the initials on lockdown these days).

Tyler actually had accumulated some of those before Toonami Multimedia, his half of the Arsenal before the merger with Toonami Miscellaneous, officially launched. The site was just about to launch and all of a sudden, Toonami changed its look and atmosphere, and in a haste, a lot of stuff was accidentally deleted. At the time, Toonami Multimedia had very limited space and very little bandwidth, and Tyler felt that the visitors to the site would rather see the newer stuff than the older stuff.

See, this was back when you could count Toonami fan sites on one hand. I should know. My site was the middle finger of the bunch.

Well, that's unfortunate, isn't it? If I could I'd be pouring thru the VHS tapes galore in my room at home looking for anything Toonami-ish that is rare but sadly I think I wouldn't have anything nearly old enough to warrant "news-worthy", except for maybe a BigO/DBZ Midnight Run promo or something that i remember stumbling upon. Also, I don't believe I have the equiptment necessary to rip from VHS to movie files thru a computer.
