The Washington Post‘s Comic Riffs weblog has interviewed French animation director Sylvain Chomet on his latest movie, The Illusionist, now in a limited US theatrical run and one of three contenders for a Best Animated Feature Academy Award (alongside Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon). Among other topics, Chomet discusses how famed French actor Jacques Tati inspired the movie, his love for the first Toy Story movie, the family drama that might have inspired Tati’s original screenplay and how it affected Chomet’s movie.

Currently working as a financial programmer in New York City, while continuing to discover all the wonderful little surprises (and expenses) of owning your a home in the suburbs. Shares the above with a beautiful, wonderful, and incredibly understanding wife named Frances (who, thankfully, participates in most of my silly hobbies) and a large furry dog named Brownie (who, sadly, does not).
