Normally we don’t report on April Fools pranks here at TZ (except when we do it twice, like now) but this was just too good not to share.
Pixar is known for hiding easter eggs in its films. If you look closely, you can find the Pizza Planet truck somewhere in the background (or foreground, if you’re lucky) of every movie they’ve made. There’s also usually one item from the next film in Plxar’s schedule hidden in the current one. And everybody knows about John Ratzenberger, the “good luck charm” who’s voiced one character in every film (though his luck didn’t help The Good Dinosaur).
But here’s one Easter Egg that’s been there from the beginning, that was camouflaged so cleverly that NOBODY ever found it! Today, Pixar reveals Hank the Octopus, supporting character in Finding Dory and secret star of EVERY Pixar movie going back to the original Toy Story. No fooling! (Well, maybe a little fooling…)
“Every Pixar fan knows that we love Easter Eggs,” director Andrew Stanton states in today’s revealing video. “And until now, Hank has been our most closely guarded secret. There are even people internally at Pixar who don’t know about this.”
“Hank started off as a bit of an inside joke between those of us who were here at Pixar in the very beginning. But since then, finding a place for him in our films has become part of our culture, and I’m glad we finally get to introduce him properly to fans.”
