Sofia The First is one of the biggest shows to come out of Disney Junior. It’s not surprising that, in an era where shows are rebooted and revived, it would make a comeback. That’s definitely the case with Sofia The First: Royal Magic, the sequel series to the Disney Junior show Sofia The First. With the series coming out May 25, 2026, we have the official trailer. Let’s talk about it.
First off, here’s a history lesson. Sofia The First is a Disney Junior show that ran from November 18, 2012 to September 8, 2018. The series focuses on a young village girl named Sofia, who becomes a princess when her mother Miranda marries King Roland of Enchancia. Throughout all four seasons, she went on all sorts of adventures with her family and friends. The new series picks up after the finale. Sofia attends the Charmswell School Of Magic, where she learns how she’s the most powerful princess in the realm. She attends the school with her new friends Layla, Camilla, and Zane to master her skills.
The series sees the return of Ariel Winter as Sofia, Darcy Rose Byrnes as Amber, Jess Harnell as Cedric, Sara Ramirez as Miranda, Travis Willingham as Roland, Tim Gunn as Baileywick, Wayne Brady as Clover, and Eric Stonestreet as Minimus. On February 17, 2026, our first round of new voice actors was announced. This includes Mela Pietropaolo as Layla, Aaliyah Magcasi as Camilla, Kai Harris as Zane, and Nate Torrence as Pepper the puppycorn. 
On March 24, 2026, even more voice actors were announced. These include Beanie Feldstein as Sofia’s flying horse Wildfyre, Tony Hale as the villain Mimsy Fizzlewick, Yvette Nicole Brown, James Monroe Iglehart, & Jeremy Swift as Sofia’s teachers at Lady Saddlespur, Lord Primrose, and Mr. Muddykins, Ethan Slater & Jeremy Jordan as the puppercorns Nutmeg and Sage, and Rachel Bloom & Nat Faxon as Zane’s parents, Queen Zora and King Ziggy. We also have various Disney Princesses making guest apperances on the show, such as Rapunzel, Moana (once again voiced bg Auli Cravahlo), Cinderella, Jasmine, and Elena from fellow Disney Junior show Elena Of Avalor (once again voiced by Aimee Carrero). That’s definitely quite the stacked voice cast, especially with how many of them have been in other Disney Junior shows.
Original series creator Craig Gerber returns to be creator and executive producer for the new series. Krystal Banzon, writer and story editor for Firebuds, is story editor here. Kris Wimberly, storyboard artist on Elena Of Avalor and episodic director for Firebuds, is supervising director here. Craig Simpson is producer. Episodes are made up of 2 11 minute segments rather than being 22-24 minutes long. Voice actor Mick Wingert, who’s been in Craig Gerber’s other shows, is voice director here. Icon Creative Studio, the regular Disney Junior animation studio, is attached to the series. The series is produced by Disney Junior Education And Inclusion and Disney Television Animation.
