Cover of the Week: Conan the Barbarian #29

Welcome to “This Week in Comics”! Looking for a new comic book to pick up this week? Here’s your guide to what’s coming out at your local comic shop (or available for digital purchase) this week (February 25th, 2026). Each week, we’ll focus on at least one of each of the following: The latest issue of an ongoing series that’s worth highlighting, a new issue #1 (a great starting point!) for an ongoing or mini-series , a stand alone (one-shot) comic, and sometimes even a comic available in the digital backlog available on Marvel Unlimited, DC Infinite or Comixology Unlimited!

Highlight of the Week (Ongoing Comic, DC):

ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER #9: “ALIEN AUTOPSY! What Martian secrets will the Agency discover as they peel back layers of mystery, metaphor, and fascia? Meanwhile, John searches for his missing partner as his world continues to crumble around him!”

Writer Deniz Camp and artist Javier Rodriguez’s addition to the “Absolute” line of DC titles has been growing in buzz since it first released last year. While the comic is set to conclude with the upcoming Issue #12, this is a great comic worth tracking down the previous issues and getting into it now. It’s more of a psychedelic “Vertigo” tale, but it does some creative things with the Martian Manhunter character. Definitely worth a look!

Highlight of the Week (Ongoing Comic, Titan Comics):

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #29: New pulp-tastic tales In the tradition of Robert E. Howard. A deadly new foe hunts Conan the Barbarian, tracking his spirit wherever he travels – a killer with keen blade in hand and teeth from old prey strung ‘round his neck. The cult of the Black Stone wants revenge against the Cimmerian and the Son of the Tooth is their weapon of choice.

Ever since Titan Comics secured the rights to the Conan franchise, they’ve been on our radar as a growing Indie publisher (alongside mainstays like IDW Publishing and Dynamite Entertainment). Writer Jim Zub has been doing things right for the Barbarian, and Doug Braithwaite’s artwork is always fantastic, and this issue looks to be the start of a new storyline! Jump on board now!

New Issue #1 (Ongoing Series):

PUNISHER #1: “CRIME’S WORST NIGHTMARE IS BACK IN AN ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES!

As unflinching and uncompromising as ever, Frank Castle’s memory is damaged and he’s hunting for answers and criminals alike! He’ll get more than he bargained for of both when the notorious and bloodthirsty JIGSAW returns… with THE PUNISHER dead in his sights!”

Writer Benjamin Percy knows his “street level” action, and seems like a perfect fit for a new Punisher series. We’ve been itching for return of an ongoing Punisher series, so here’s to hoping this one has time to develop and grow the character (or really, just give him multiple issues of killing bad guys in different fashions).

MURDER DRONES #1: “Based on Glitch Productions’ global animation phenomenon created by Liam Vickers and now streaming on Prime Video, it’s three cheers for ‘destroy all humans’ as all-star creators Wyatt Kennedy (Nights, Marvel Voices) and Jo Mi-Gyeong (Eve, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) unleash the record-setting comics adaptation of the series that you have watched 330 million times: MURDER DRONES!

In the far future on the desolate exoplanet designated Copper 9, the humans are long gone but the robotic worker drones they created to mine the planet’s resources are still hard at work. Together, they have managed to forge their own makeshift society… or so they thought until a previously unknown kind of robot — the dreaded ‘Murder Drones’ — are activated by a long-forgotten human-scripted protocol to disassemble any worker that deviates from its original programming. But when a rebellious young worker drone named Uzi forms an unlikely alliance with two disassembly drones — Serial Designations N and V — can they, together, uncover the secrets of their origins… and stop the spread of the unsettling mechanical virus known as the Absolute Solver?

Robots, violence, teen angst, mad science, love, loss, doors, hormones, and chaos! What more could you ask for? A pen, perhaps? It’s a clicky pen! (Ask your kids. They’ll get it!)”

It’s a Glitch Productions comic book (by way of Oni Press)! The team behind “Amazing Digital Circus” and “Knights of Guinevere” first gained fame with their animated series “Murder Drones”, and now we have a Murder Drones comic! Lots to love here, and let’s hope the start of many more “Glitch Productions” comics in the years ahead!

New “Event” Issue #1:

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN/VENOM: DEATH SPIRAL #1: “FIRST YOUR FRIENDS. THEN YOUR FAMILY. THEN YOU. The next epic SPIDER-MAN and VENOM crossover starts here and continues through April! A new super-powered serial killer is on the loose and they’re coming for Spidey, Venom and everyone in between. But what terrible secret has CARNAGE learned, and what does it have to do with Spider-Man?!”

This year’s big “Spider-Man” event is here, featuring a long awaited reunion between Peter Parker (he’s been off in space) and Mary Jane (she’s been fighting crime and fighting killer urges as the new Venom). Plus, there’s a new sympiote character (named “Torment”). If you want to jump in to the start of this new storyline, here’s the place to do it!

Digital Back Issue of the Week:

Cover art by Mike Mignola

Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment (1989): “Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange enter Mephisto’s realm in an all-out effort to free the soul of Doctor Doom’s mother! But what price must be paid before Mephisto will release it? And will Doctor Doom make the sacrifice?”

Marvel started experimenting with graphic novels back in the 80’s (stand along stories done in a more “prestige” magazine/book format). These are rare and hard to find, but one of the best things about Marvel Unlimited is finding these graphic novels are available with the service! “Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Torment” is a remarkable stand alone story featuring the two doctor’s teaming up to save Doctor Doom’s mother from Hell. Best of all, this features early artwork from the legendary Mike Mignola!
