The Batman Part II

Back when we reported on the announcement for the Clayface movie, we pointed out its release date was awfully close to The Batman Part II‘s and assumed some more schedule shuffling was in store. That didn’t take long.

The website Deadline broke the news this morning that The Batman Part II has slipped another release date and will be delayed again. Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, it’s to be the follow-up to 2022’s The Batman — whenever we get it.

The Batman Part II has now jumped three times across Warner Bros’ schedule slate: it was first announced to be coming out in October of 2025; then it was delayed an entire year to October of 2026; now yet another year has been added and it isn’t expected to be ready until October of 2027. In the movie’s previous spot, WB has placed an untitled, unannounced Tom Cruise movie from director Alejandro González Iñárritu.

So what’s the deal with all these delays? Is the movie ever really coming out? That depends on Reeves, as he appears to be the source of all this. Rumors that the director had finalized the script for the film seem to be untrue. He still won’t let go of it. WB seems to be willing to let Reeves take as long as he needs, as he has yet to produce a stinker.

The public’s appetite for a The Batman sequel was temporarily sated last fall with the release of The Penguin, a spinoff miniseries with Colin Farrell returning under layers of mobster makeup to play the master criminal opposite a career-defining performance from Cristin Milioti (if you ask us it was really her show, not his). Even though the mini told a complete story, some involved with the production feel it could continue and are pushing WB for a second season.

It’s not a done deal, but the odds for that season probably just got greater. Five years is a long time to wait for a follow-up to The Batman.
