It wasn’t that long ago that Warner Bros. killed its long-running slate of children’s action programs based on DC properties, but it feels like it’s been an eternity already. Because the toys didn’t sell or in some cases never got a merch deal, the remaining few shows were cancelled and then banished forever as tax write-offs. When WB was riding high in the 90’s with the still-unmatched Timmverse, who could have predicted a fate like this?
For that reason, it was with unbridled joy and feelings of relief that I found myself watching a trailer for a new WB/DC super-cartoon. There’s one catch though: it’s a series of five-minute episodes, and they’ll all premiere on the Internet.
But believe it or not, it still looks just as good as Young Justice would have if Season 3 existed. “Vixen” is about Mari McCabe, possessor of a “crazy magic totem thing” that turns her into the titular superheroine. Endowed with the proportional strength and speed of the animal kingdom, Vixen leaps and zooms through the cityscape to fight crime as well as protect the totem from those who want to swipe it for evil plans.

And when you see Flash and Arrow appear, there’s a reason their voices sound familiar: they’re that Flash and Arrow, from their respective TV series, voiced by their actors. This series will canonically take place within the same world as those shows do. Which means magic has been confirmed to exist there, which in turn means they can stop trying to find “realistic” excuses for why weird things like Lazarus Pits can happen….right?
There is still no premiere date for Vixen, but it’ll presumably show up sometime during the next season of Arrow and The Flash, on The CW Seed website.
